tough question, are you looking for 5.1 / 7.1 setup or okay with 2.1?

I'm okay with either 2.0, 2.1, 5.1
it's the sound quality and detail that is more important either at low, med or high.

If I have to choose between 10 speakers with high quality vs 1 speaker with excellent quality, I'll gladly choose 1 speaker with the spec above the other.

understood.
I haven't tried many new 5.1 speakers much, only in the showroom.
But for my gaming rig, I have the Logitech z623 for years now and still very happy with it.

I'm a Logitech fanboy, so I recommend the Z906 regardless of how good the rest might be or what your particular setup is, and no amount of reason or persuasion will divert me from my illogical ideals!

Audioengine contacted me this morning and arrange a delivery.
I was gonna go to electronic center this morning, very good timing.

So it's fix Audioengine A5+, I hope the upgrade in the sound quality is worth it from Altec Lansing Expressionist Ultra MX6021.

Logitech and Bose speakers are my go to brands. I personally prefer my Bose speakers just because they have perfect bass. The speakers that I own are Bose companion 5, soundlink mini, Logitech x530 and I have another set of Logitech speakers but don't remember the model they are fairly old but still work just fine.

Bose Companion 5 design is cool,
But I heard Bose products are overpriced, I had thought of getting one too, but have doubt.

Actually I was gonna go check Bose Companion 5 and Sony Home Theater BDV series at nearby electronic center.

My family bought this BOSE home theater system 10+ years ago for like $5000 >_>;

I currently have it hooked up to my PC with a toslink optical audio cable. Loooool.
Overpriced, yes... but at least they still work perfectly.

Bose products are expensive but the companion 5's have the same msrp as the z906's and I have yet to find a rival for the companion 5's in the quality of bass they produce. Not sure if you like heavy bass but all Bose speakers have a lot of bass, which I like. I recommend going to the store to check them out that's a good idea to test it out before a purchase, good luck with the search hope you find what you need :)

Audiengine A5+ lack of bass,
I'll miss the big bass punch from high quality subwoofer.

But for the satellites I think Audioengine A5+ is great, best from what I had heard.

Here they are,
The box size is almost the same,
I'm gonna compare the sound quality, I hope A5+ don't let me down.

I've been using these for awhile and have really enjoyed them.

http://www.alesis.com/elevate-3

edit* - Elevate 6 is more comparable with the other speakers you listed price-wise($149.99 x2).

I just use headphones to be honest. The best speakers I've ever used came with my monitor. xD

I'm done comparing both of them, actually 3 of them.

  1. TV Speaker : Sony 3D HX750 40"
You don't want to hear anything coming from this, never use standard speaker no matter how much pricey the TV are. They are very very far behind a dedicated high quality speaker.

  2. Audioengine A5+ (Sound Quality)

    • Every sound, every single instruments can be hear clearly
    • For the high volume, use only the speaker volume control, the sound will be like several times better than using source volume control. Just leave it out to Audioengine A5+, don't add any equalizer or amplifier.
    • Lack of bass, I'll miss MX6021 bass everytime I hear from Audioengine A5+, guess I'll have to add a subwoofer for this
    • Don't use max volume at source (bad source)
  3. Altec Lansing MX6021 (Stable Output, Precise Bass)

    • Very crisp sound no matter the source volume level, this one got stable sound quality output no matter how bad the source.
    • Loud but precise bass
    • Some sound clouded by the louder instruments, I can still her it, but not as clear as Audioengine A5+
    • Not as much detailed, when you hear Audioengine A5+

Thanks, I missed it. I'm glad to see you enjoy it, and the bass should be easy to improve with a subwoofer.

As for the source volume, you really shouldn't use the headphones/speakers out but the line-out (if you have one). When a proper line-out is not available the headphones/speakers out should normally be set to the highest volume, but not always.

I'd go for the Z906 if I were in the market. I'm still using Logitech Z5300 speakers, and they blow away my home theater speaker setup that I paid almost 4x what I got these for.

My buddy has the z906, they sounds really good but a bit expensive. I use the Logitech z323 set, I'm not an audiophile but In my opinion they are grate for their cost.
