Title is self-explanatory.
I don't see anything helpful related to deal with winning a non-Steam redeemable key on the FAQ, so I decided to ask it here.
What should I do now? Mark it as Not received next week? Report the creator? Or what?

Why would you giveaway non-Steam redeemable keys on Steamgifts tho???
It's even clearly says "Please enter Steam redeemable keys, or gift URLs from Steam or Humble Bundle." when you're trying to giveaway a key...

When I thought I finally won the giveaway, yet it's not for Steam... *sob

• Edit: Giveaway creator leave me a comment on my profile, it says: "Hey, you won the * key, unfortunately it's not a Steam key, it's an Origin key, you can keep the key, sorry for the trouble."
• Edit 2: Re-checked GA creator have joined steam for 7 years. And I put a little information on his profile about the key and I will mark it as not received next week, and to not to giveaway non-Steam key on SteamGifts, also hope him/her have a good day. :)
• Edit 3: GA creator responded, "Sorry for the inconveniece, I have requested the for the giveaway to be deleted. Again sorry, but I cannot get you a key for the game on steam." How will he delete the giveaway tho? It's still on my notification.

So I guess he admit that it should be marked as not received then?
Edit: Thanks everyone for the responses!

Mark it as Not received next week?

Yep. In the meantime leave a comment for the creator about it.

Let the giveaway creator know that the key is non-Steam and he can only give Steam keys. It'll give him a chance to fix the problem, if after a week he doesn't give you a Steam key then mark as not received. Good luck!

Any idea where id does end up redeeming? GOG, Origin? Doesn't change anything or matter, I'm just curious. Or did you try and redeem it on steam ang get some specific specific about being for another site?

Steam will only tell you its invalid, it won't tell you why and it certainly won't tell you where it can be redeemed.

Mark not received and that as long as you don't receive a Steam redeemable key or gift for the exact game you won because otherwise you could get into trouble on SG and SGTools because of a non activated win. :X

Are you sure it isn't a humble bundle key or something (which is allowed since it gives you a Steam key), other than that what everyone else said ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's an Origin key.

Yup, that's a 'Not Received' for sure, you've done all you can. Either the GA creator provides you with a Steam key for it, or if you want to be extra super duper nice, ask them to make click "Delete this giveaway" reason : "Game is not Steam redeemable" and you should make a comment on the GA as well saying "I have no problem with this GA being deleted because I did not receive a Steam key"
Just do NOT mark it as received until either of those things are done =)

I've checked your "points" about what he wrote on your steam profile, there is 100% proof he KNEW it was not Steam key....view of the fact that he knew it was not steam key, nevertheless made a giveaway ... this is totally wrong and against all SG's rules....

I know bunnies would eat him alive for that.....

You can also allow the GA creator to delete the giveaway so his/her profile won't be tainted with a not-received.

Send a message to the winner explaining that they are required to provide you a steam-redeemable copy. If they don't do so, then mark the game as not received and move on. It's sad when this happens, but there's nothing else to do here, really.

Is it a good game? If yes, you should keep the key anyway, the platform doesn't matter :P
But you should mark it as not received since the rules say that this site is for steam games only

If it also happened with other games you should not mark them as received, otherwise your profile shows plenty of non-activated games.

If you win the same giveaway twice, you should not accept it the second time and let the creator of the giveaway reroll.

i would leave a message in the giveaway stating your ok with the mods dealing the GA that it was made by accident and was a non-steam key.

Given that the creator has sent a key (albeit for Origin) and allowed the winner to keep the key (and assuming that the key works), this is a good idea.

yeah, with updated notes it's up to you..
if you want and feel they're a nice person and genuinely didn't mean harm, you're welcome to agree to the deletion. just reply in the topic giving permission for the removal and support will allow the deletion. or if you want to give them the not received due to their mistake that's also up to you.

He should have made a request to have the giveaway deleted, so you just wait for support to handle the request.

If the giveaway is still there after a week, just mark it as not received to hide the notification.

it sounded to me like he already made the trouble ticket, but if not then the gifter makes a trouble ticket requesting the deletion, support will come by in a few days (not instantly), and verify that you gave permission for the deletion, then just delete it. nothing more to do then wait really as long as he really did fill out a ticket.

Firstly, you're being a dick. Why? Because ure reporting someone that gave you something for free. Something that, supposly you wanted.
But again, there are people like you that enter all the giveaways without even paying attention 2 minutes to the giveaway's creator description.
Shame.

If i were to win, for example, Battlefield bad company 2, on origin, but not on steam, i wouldnt be mad at all. If its a game i entered the giveaway for and i want the game, i wouldnt complain at all.

"You should only enter to win giveaways for yourself, and if you win a game, it must be activated and redeemed to the Steam account used during registration. "

Care to explain how to activate Origin game on Steam? Because if that's not possible, person who would act like you suggest would break this site rules.

  • He isn't "reporting" anyone. He's asking how to proceed.
  • The site is STEAMgifts, not ORIGINgifts.
  • If he marks a game received that he did not actually receive and activate on his Steam account, he can be suspended.
  • You didn't need to be rude to make your point.

either way... If you win something that you want, but u really want that thing, u just refuse to use it because its not on your fluffly-goofy-nice steam account and u cant brag about it or what?
Get serious.

"He's breaking the rules"... give the man a break. He had a key and he wanted to give it away somehow while "winning" from it some virtual points on his steamgifts account. This matter should've been discussed privately not on a huge steamgifts board.

I dont know about you guys, but as i was saying, if a guy decides to gift me Call of duty Infinite warfare + COD MW Remastered for uplay/gog or whatever, i will never refuse him. I'll turn my eyes a little bit the other way and happily redeem my gift. or just tell him privately that i dont want his gift because its not for steam and that he shouldnt post it on steamgifts.
I wouldnt call the president of USA to tell him about this matter.

I think you are missing the fundamental point here - that win leaves a mark on his account that cannot be verified on steam - thus he will be flagged as a rule breaker by SG and by SGtools - he could get suspended for that and will no longer be able to enter into SGtools giveaways. Thus - they have no choice but to mark it as not received and mention it to the user/support - they could always choose to ask the giveaway creator delete the giveaway (which they very nicely did), but that is outside of the fact that they now have an account (until it is all sorted) that they have an unactivated game on (according to how SG views the rules and regs) - oh and if you did what you say you would be happy to do, you also would have an account with an unactivated game on it - according to how SG works and could suffer the same issues when entering giveaways in the future - it is annoying, but it is how SG works in this Case #8 situation :( (still - props to you for having the presidents number :) that is cool)

If the OP marks as received, but the game isn't on his Steam account, he risks getting suspended by the mods and blacklisted by other users.

Actually, the OP is handling it in the best way possible. He's apparently agreed to allow the giveaway to be deleted, so no harm, no foul ... and no black mark on either person's record.

From what I've seen, OP didn't mention who is the creator of that Origin-GA, so I don't really see the problem. He may be confused as of what to do, so he asked here, on forum, as many others do. He didn't do anything bad and didn't deserve to be called a "dick". You may turn your eyes other way, if that's what you do, but you will end up on many blacklists, for not activated won games, you will be suspended for breaking rules and won't be able to join SGTools protected GAs.

Then that would be one of the last games you can leech of this site :) Its simple, there are rules. Breaking those rules get you suspended..So are you willing to get suspended for that one game, and never use this site again as its forbidden to create a secondary account? If i were you, i'd go read the rules and faq's so that when the times comes, you don't do anything stupid

He's not reporting anyone. He's asking how he should handle the situation.

But again, there are people like you that enter all the giveaways without even paying attention 2 minutes to the giveaway's creator description.

The description didn't state it was for Origin. The giveaway creator simply made a mistake.

OP wasn't mad, just confused as to how the situation should be handled. He inquired, and handled the situation correctly based on feedback fro the community by agreeing for the giveaway to be deleted. If you mark a game as received and it's not present in your Steam account, you're the one breaking the rules and risking a suspension.

meh i would just accept it and move on. if its uplay or origin game they dont have achivements on steam anyways so its not a big difference to play on a different program. Also you cant play only go with steam these days, if you are a true gamer you are gonna need to use origin or uplay anyways even though they are blah.
