Well here's a group for people above 30 years of age with an interest in gaming.

It's for ladies, too. I just couldn't find a vacant, memorable, unisex URL.

Edit: This isn't a giveaway group.

Oh, and welcome!

1 decade ago

It says "above 30"; 30 isn't above 30. But I wasn't serious :)

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well technically... on your 30th birthday you have been around for 30 years, so you're instantly above thirty. Does that make sense?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

touche. :P

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well TECHNICALLY... if you were born at 11:59pm and its your birthday you are still <30 then at EXACTLY 11:59 you =30 then at 11:59:01 you are >30.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Haha, I'm only 20 and I occasionally have those "Damn kids" moments to people my own age. Growing up I had my own generation's music, games, cartoons etc, but I also grew up loving my brother's generation's stuff, then previous generation's stuff. I mean hell, while I was in school our computer teacher found a box full of the old enormous floppy disks and I was the only person in our class that actually knew what they were. Kind of made me sad when you take into account that my generation should have at least known about the smaller floppies and could have just figured out what the older ones were.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

by "enormous" you probably mean the 5" disks. Do you remember the 8" ones?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I didn't even know there had been anything in between tapes and 5" disks. And I'm your elder.

1 decade ago
Permalink

My dad had a TRS80 and an ADAM, so I remember the cassette tapes well. Ah, memories!

The very first English sentence I read in my life.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I wish I could remember the first sentence I read in my life, I'm kind of curious to what it was.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm not a native speaker of English, so it wasn't my first sentence per se.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

My native language is English, so what would have been your first sentence in English would be just my first sentence in general :P

Out of curiosity, what is your native language?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

German, I'd say. Although the first language I spoke was Polish. But yeah, I've been speaking German since I was three and it's by far my best language.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I've tried learning other languages, but it's just difficult. I think I'd have an easier time if I had someone helping me, as reading books and using those programs just doesn't really work, for me.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I've lost count of how many languages I've studied. I find language fascinating.
I would say that Mandarin is the language I'm strongest in other than English.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

0_0

Wow, I accidentally started out typing =_= cause = is on the same key as 0 on German keyboards. Lol, how politically incorrect.

Anyways, wow. Yeah, now your nickname makes sense.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's the name given to me by my Chinese professor back in college. My family name is 'ou' which is the same character as the name for Europe. I've text chatted in Mandarin and they realized that I was not a native speaker, not because of my proficiency, but because of my family name... lol

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Neh, you can't substitute actual real-world talking practice. Also, starting out with two languages helps learn the third. And then a fourth language is too much and starts overwriting the other ones, in my experience. :)

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Honestly, I mostly just want to learn Japanese cause there's an endless amount of Anime, Manga, Novels, Games, etc that I want to read/play/watch from Japan that were never translated to English.

A very nerdy reason yes, but it's my reason nonetheless :P

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's actually quite typical. There's been such a huge influx of people starting to study Japanese in the last couple of years. And most people learning Swedish at universities over here do it cause they're into Swedish Death Metal and such.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Are you from Sweden? You mentioned Polish, and German. Do you speak Swedish too?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No, I don't, lol. My mom lives there, but otherwise I have nothing to do with Sweden. I have a lot to do with metal, though, so that's that.

So I was born in Poland (obviously). My family escaped socialism, by fleeing to Germany, when I was one and that's where I still live.
I had six years of French at school but that's mostly been overwritten by Russian which I studied (close to Polish therefore somewhat easy for me and I always liked the sound of it).
That's all the languages I have ever seriously tried learning, besides English obviously, which was mandatory at school.

My Russian sucks, I'm afraid. I understand a lot, but I can't say much. French is way gone. The other three I'm fluent in, I'd say.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I try my best to learn it, it's just a pain for the reason I mentioned above.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

And I tough it was to understand all those swedish movies...

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Anway, it's often related to an interest in cultural output from that particular country, rather than liking the language or having any roots there.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Same reason I can read/write Japanese. However my grammar/vocabulary is fairly limited.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I learned to write software on a TRS-80... and made a career out of it. (Coding in general, no longer on a TRS-80 of course.)

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's awesome. I tried coding in Basic on my Commodore Plus/4. I was only six, though, and couldn't even properly write at the time. Not to mention I'd start learning English about five years later.
Obviously I got nowhere with that. :)

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Now that you mention it, there were some 5" ones mixed in, but I was referring to the 8" ones. The 8" ones, and hell, even the 5" ones, were before my time, but I still knew what they were.
