Why does it "differentiate" euro from dollar if the numeric value is the same?
Instead of offering a game for a price of $59.99 and a completely "equal" 59.99€, they should just list it as $59.99€ so we know we are being ripped if we're not in the US...
Why? That's The $5€ gap is a beer in Norway, 5 beers in Romania GOOGLE KNOWS

Why the hell is beer so expensive in Norway

Well, most of Norwegians drink oil because they don't want to waste money on beer, so they must get the maximum out of that beer.

It depends by the beer.
If you consider supermarket-beer it's ubber expensive.

Even in a bar that is still expensive
Here a regular beer in a bar is about 1.70-1.80€, and special beer range from 2.50 to 4€ (most are about 3.20€). And in university towns each faculty has a small bar managed by students where you can easily get special beers for 1€ - 1.20€ ^^

I have barely the same prices, ~1,5€ for a supermarket-regular-beer, but 4-5€ for "special beer"

I'm not sure what you mean by supermarket beer, because we have some beer that is sold in supermarket that costs 0.30€ a can :D (of course it's disgusting)

Why would thy let us know that we're being ripped off? More people would go and find a trader then which means less money to them.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

They are still milking Europe, you still have to purchase SOMETHING for trading. And still, they don't get LESS, LESS is the reason of region blocks, NORMAL is the term for US prices.
You had to pay those basic $5€ to trade

It's called VAT, after VAT are paid publishers get less than they do from dollar prices (esp. since eur is pretty low now). :P

The US isn't tax-free either, it's just that taxes are established by the state (at least that's what I heard)
Still, the $0.24€ idea is good idea, you gotta admit, that's pretty much my full creative capacity...

USD prices don't include taxes, they're added at checkout.

Same was true for Europe, when we paid in USD, VAT was added at checkout.

$0.24€ format would just make publishers have us pay even more to avoid it :D

eg. something like $40 = 45€, like Kalypso does now for their new games.

Support Ubisoft and EA because they do have some prices way cheaper in Europe :P

play.google.com
Unless a game/movie/album/song/app/etc has some regional restriction on it, the price is the price in the developer's currency shown in YOUR LOCAL currency at the current exchange rate, VAT included. If Google got into selling PC Games, just imagine. But Google won't do that, they are too cloud based, like Play Music can't compete with Spotify because Google doesn't even have a Windows player. But, well, there's no way to pay for Spotify here and All Access is kinda worth it.

Just imagine a world where you could just Google the game you want and see the best price available instead of "$59.99" shown under the link, only to open the link and wonder why you're missing 5 beers.

"Additionally, you can set a price for each app separately in individual currency per country."

That's not different than Steam. Publisher can set any price they wish.

Well, a $0.99 song is 3.99RON here, and current exchange says $0.99=4.00RON, which is a 0.01RON deal, though All Access is anyways priced according to the country's prices and it's fair.

And I doubt big developers would actually bother to put a 9999.99 price on every app in every currency available.

I should sleep.

$0.99 = 0.99€ here, so it's not different from Steam.

Ok, I just checked with a proxy, $1.29 songs are 2.49RON, so Romanian price is less than half. But considering I know NO ONE who EVER bought any music here, the price in RON is basically a placeholder.
Checked with some Spanish proxy, it's €=$. Well, at least my price is lower :D

yeah, Romania is definitely one of poorer. I guess it will get worse there once you get euro.

Well, getting to euro couldn't make anything worse. I remember when I was about 7 and the dollar was 25000lei (2.5 RON now) and now it's above 4 RON, but salaries didn't grow that much, way too much corruption in the higher class people here

Wtf? When I want to pay in Euro anyways, why should the dollar price be shown first? You can still find that one out as it is right now.

In my opinion, your wish makes no sense O.o

No, it's shown as an eurodollar price, so you know the price has the same numerical value on a different currency.

You'd be right, but then in EU2-Steam-Zone, Killing Floor 2 is for €20, not $25 (but it's for €25 in EU1 :P ).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, that's kinda the point of EU2, but still, it's only a few games actually having a price difference, and big expensive games aren't in that category.

I know (also, AFAIK EU2 has some rich North Europe countries too, it's not all poor there).

My point is, OP's idea that it's always €=$ it not true.

If that's true, then holy crap the idea fails at the gates.

€=$ isn't always true, but more often than not it is. Even in EU2

In Spain its depends of the kind of the beer. A cane could be 1,20€, but 1L in a glass bottle would be 1€. Holies "litronas".

Pretty much the same in Romania, depends on the restaurant/bar. But store prices are always low for alcohol in most of Europe.

If you think it's bad for the Euro, it's even worse for us Brits using Pound Sterling! $10 is £6.46 yet we are usually charged £10; usually almost twice as much (so we're paying $15.49 by comparison). I'm getting sick of it to be honest.

I don't really look at the price of spirits, I like our national țuica, it's like vodka on steroids, and it's usually homemade.
The last time I looked at the price of spirits was a bottle of absinthe, about 18€ (0.75L) and wine is about 3€+ for starter not-crappy wine (I got some white wine for that price and it was REALLY good)

This is in shops though, I saw shots going from 0.7€ to 7€ around here...

I love how I turned the $€ thread in an alcohol thread
