How do motherboards work and will any computer case work with any hardware?
Can i use two Nvidia GTX 550ti and a Intel Core i5-2400 Sandy Bridge 3.1GHz and 8g Ram with this motherboard? ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813135279 )
What is a recommended power supply, case, motherboard, and cooler? For this

CLICKY Get one graphics card and the i7-2600k. And yes, it would work with that motherboard. The processor is the most important thing when it comes to gaming.

Decide for yourself. I would recommend the GTX 550ti.

Nope, An i7 2600K is not worth it, He should get an i5 2500K.
The only differenc ebetween the i7 & i5 is Hyper Threading, Which is good when rendering video & Whatnot, But actually BAD when gaming.

He should get a i5 2500K instead & Only 1 GPU. If hes gonna spend $300 on 2 GPUs, Then he should buy a $300 one: GTX 570.
I personally never go for ATI since their drivers suck. Cards that are more powerful than nVidia's dont do as good in known games because of this, And older games (~2004, Not that old even) stutter, Lag & Have glitches. Ive bought 2 high end ATI/AMD cards & They but had this problem. Then I got a GTX 560 Ti & Im loving it (:

This is my recommendation:

Intel i5 2500K (3.3GHz)

G*Skill Rijaws 8GB DDR3 RAM (1600) Get the highest speed your mobo supports, I like Quantum's recommendation on mobo, You might wanna research a bit more though. Im bad with mobos sadly :(

nVidia GTX 570 Twin Frozr III Aftermarket Cooler & OC is better than stock, Not only does it run faster, But also cooler.

Corsair Enthusiast 650W PSU

CoolerMaster HAF 922 Case This is personal opinion, The NZXT Phantom is also really nice

Bottom line is that we need a budget if you want us to help you make a gaming PC, The build I gave you will be around ~$1300 orso? & Itll last you years... Youll probz need to upgrade the GPU in like 3/4 years & Youll be back on the game if you ever struggle with playing on high settings (Wont be any time soon) :D

That's the case I have lol. Though the front fan constantly makes a low buzzing sound. Going to replace it soon, hopefully. And now that I actually know what hyper threading does, I guess I see your point. Though I would still vouch for the i7-2600k.

Yeah, The i7 will do better when youre rendering video or making music & Stuff like that.

Simply put this is what it does:

Hyper Threading turns 1 physical core into 2 virtual cores, So 1 core can do 2 things simultaneously. As you know, Games arent really good at sucking the juice outta mutiple cores so this splitting actually makes the game run on MORE cores, Utilizing less & Less of each consecutive core, Untill it doesnt support many.

Lets say a program supports 4 cores, If you have a 6 core PC its not gonna use ALL cores, its only gonna use 6.
And unless the program is REALLY well made, its not gonna use all cores to the max. Core 1 is used 100%, Core 2 78%, Core 2 60% & Core 4 20%. The program doesnt support any more so the other 2 are "wasted"

About your fan: Have you tried cleaning it up? There might be dust in the way orso, I know those front fans are a pain in the ass to come close to (Specially with HDDs in the way)

Try getting those compressed air cans & CLeaning it up like that orso, Might help :P

A lot of what you have said is pretty good, when it comes to Gaming PC's its really all about personal preference, I have had no problems with ATi, but also have friends with Intel/nVidia and there is usually minimal difference.

My current build is;
AMD Phenom II X6 1055T
G.Skill Sniper 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 RAM (1600)
ATi Radeon HD 5750
Some 500W PSU
CoolerMaster HAF 932 Advanced

The HAF's are great cases with tons of room, the one problem would be cable lengths, some people i know have had to rewire the PSU cords so they can reach.

I recommend Nvidia for graphics, Core i7 for processor, 4-8GB of RAM min, 22" monitor.

When I was offered the Radeon HD 6770 I asked and received the Radeon HD 5870. Though older; the hardware comparisons and benchmarks (Tom's Hardware for one) showed the older card too be superior. The 5870 runs 3 monitors with no additional hardware except monitor cables and higher performance in all ccategories. Was this a good choice?

Yes it was. The newer series is just the slightest bit better than the older ones but the 5870 definitely surpasses the 6770. Thinking about that, I should have gone with the 5870. =P

Thanks for reassurance :). Just goes too show newer is not better. I later read that ATI mention their would be no upgrade for the 5879 until at least the 7xxxx series. I have not checked since their release if the 7 series is an upgrade yet or not. But the 5870 still runs every thing at max resolution still on 3 monitors..

I could be wrong but it looks like you are going to need a full sized ATX case for this mobo.
You didn't mention hard drives in there so I'd suggest a SSD or a RAID0 setup, you'd be surprised how much a slow HDD can bottleneck a system.
As far as cooling I just picked up a corsair H60 water cooler from newegg and I couldn't be happier. It's only slightly noisier than a stock fan and my CPU is idling at 32C and maxing at 47C.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I think the power supply just needs to have a bit more power than the video card(s) require. My video card says it needs 400W or better so I got a 500w and haven't had any issues.
Good luck buddy.

Don't buy a keyboard. Keyboards are for fags. Real gamers use mouse only. (somehow)
