Let's post quotes from MetaCritic

"The game play and glitches that haunted most players before are now bearable"
Travanj's review of Orion:Dino Horde. Score 10/10

"This game is AWESOME!! For those looking for a sequel for the Telltale game this one is NOT it. This is "Survival Instinct". An FPS survival horror game for real gamers."
unclebobbylee's review of The Walking Dead Survival Instict (Xbox 360) Score 10/10

"I really enjoy this game! It's exactly what you want in a horror survival game. It's fun and to the point. This game is not for video game( gamerZzz") elitists, people that LARP or otherwise have no interpersonal social skills. It's a video game for the Everyman who want to slays some bodies."
xikipeke's review of The Walking Dead Survival Instict (Xbox 360) Score 10/10

"The quality of this game is almost unparalleled. Graphics that amaze, a winding story that keeps you on the edge of your seat with deep characters that are believable. A game that will be looked back on as one of gaming's greatest achievements 15 years from now. Great job Irrational Games!"

I use Metacritics only for the negative reviews. While people might forgive little flaws in a game they overall liked, rest assumred they will bash every little detail when they hated the game.
While I might think different from these people, at least they will tell me everything there is to know. :D

I do the exact same at Steam comments: looking for the negatives, to avoid the fanboys.
On metacritics I usually looking for high or low points - what is really good or bad in it. For example somebody's main concern can be that graphics are not so flashy, so he only gives like 30%. If you like the graphics, you can ignore that review, and look for the that says 90% because great storytelling. Or bweebs. (Everyone loves boobs)

I generally ignore 10s and 0-5s unless it's an extremely (in)famous game and decide based on tone, length, etc. Decent rule of thumb: bad grammar, bad review.

I do something similar with both Metacritic and Steam scores.

1) Look at the "mainstream score" to see what "those who liked it" think.
2) Look at the "critical score" to see what "those who didn't like it" think.
3) Figure out the "majority trend" (thumbs up and down) to see how likely it is that I will like the game.
4) Read the negative comments to see if the game contains any "deal breakers" for me.
5) Consider all of the above and decide whether or not to take a chance on buying this title.
