So even if I was a classic member for all these years I will need to not skip a bundle for 12 months to get the 20% back again ?

yes, in fact, being classic costs you 1€ more than regular membership yet doesn't give any visible benefit in comparison - at least that's my situation as far as support is telling me.

They refunded the difference when the plans changed, if you had an active classic membership.

I kept my Classic membership in order to continue my subscription on a six-month basis.

No, my current program is still a semi-annual subscription to the Classic program.

So basically only those that paid more than the new annual price are compensated for the reduced value of the new Choice.

Caught a good deal on an annual sub for 99$ (worth of 180$) but now reducing the asking price and overall value of each month.. so my deal was only for a worth of 129$. Am I getting this right ?

I mean yes,. what could they compensate you on if you paid $8.25 a bundle, when right now they're $4 more, you're still getting a deal. The deal was that even classic subs were paying around $135-$145 I think for their sub and that was technically the best price except the $99.

The whole deal with the $99 was that you are a new subscriber, not a past one, so it wouldn't have applied to classic subs anyways, which were paying around $145 I think and that was because they were long term customers. The other tiers they had would end up paying the $180, except they made that deal that for the first year you only pay $99, then the second year you'd pay $180 for a whole year, which would average you back at around $140. The deal was that by the second year you'd end up paying the same as classic and the third year you'd be paying the new $180 price since you're no longer a new customer. and that's when you pay more than people who've been subbed for all these years. They went away with this since people were finding ways to use new cards every single month to get the $6 coupons basically or whatever other lowest deal was going on. So they knew going into year 2 that people would just use a new card to sub again for $99 and it would be a massive hit for them.

Did you have to write to them for that refund or were they doing this automatically?

Ah ok thanks I got confused because I paid $129 but it looks like €109 would be cheaper for me. I wonder if there is a way to change from $ to Euro for future.

Yes if you skip a month the discount will drop to 0. And if you pay for a month again it will go to 10%. For 3 months 15%. For 6 months 17%. For 12 months 20%. So if you want to keep the 20% discount you must not pause a month never again.

I can confirm this 10%. It's worthless.

Indeed, if you're buying bundles that you don't actually want just to keep a 20% discount, you're saving nothing. You have games you'll never play, and it's costing you more in the long run. You're better off just paying full price if you buy a new game you really want every once in a while.

i canceled last month Right after getting the monthly and i had the 20% off deal and i did the same thing this month once i got the 8$ deal and i got the 20% deal back. i am not subscribed and Membership Rewards

Rewards Allocation
Current split: 20% off purchases, 0% to charity

So pausing kills the 20% discount, while cancelling and re-subscribing keeps it? That's bizarre.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

This is the case for me. If I pause, I don't have the 20 % off. If I charge a month, I recover the reduction for a month. Classic plan here.

Permalink

You wont recover the 20% discount only the 10%. To gain again the 20% discount you need a straight 12 months without a pause.

Yep. HB doesn't care about how many monthly or other bundles you have bought. Skip a month and you lose the 20%. In fact if you are from Europe or pay in € you pay 1 € more if you don't cancel. HB just loves loyal customers /s

There's an option to convert the classic plan to the cheaper € plan without cancelling or losing your 20% discount, it's been listed in the FAQ since day 1.

Also: will i lose CLASSIC plan? i know there is no reason to stay but maybe in future they will change something

yes, doing the outlined steps will remove classic.

With HB's track record of favoring new and returning customers, I wouldn't keep classic expecting they would change for the better in that aspect.

Lucky you :D

HB Monthly/Choice at the start it felt like a great deal. Over time it got twisted and now it's a bundle like any other. You check what's in it before you buy. The whole 'surprise box' element is gone. No idea who at IGN thought this was a bright idea, but I would disagree ;)

I rather have the choice of not to buy a bundle I don't like, than getting surprise-disappointed after the took my money :D

But on the instinct level, I agree. Thought we're really better off without a gamble-bundle.

The 10%/20% should work ontop regular discounts in the Humble Store... always did anyways.

Oh! That makes sense then to appreciate the addons. I've never bought games directly from Humble, because I didn't pay attention to the % and it would always be showing only if the price would be really low.

I've never skipped a Humble Choice in a year time, but I don't think I've bought the 1 year long subscription. I pay for it monthly, whenever I wish.

Update: After checking I believe that I have the 20%. 🤔 But it doesn't apply everywhere, some games give only 10%-15%.

I think I bought teo games in the HB store - Detroit becoming human for a friend because I was a subscriber and bought the choices matter bundle and got a coupon as well; and Call of the Sea for last year's Advent Calendar as the 20% made HB offering the best price.

I buy individual games quite rarely, and I prefer a deep discount (or preferably in a bundle). 20% extra discount is nice, but discount buildup (1 month for 10%, 11 other months for the other 10%) is ludicrous. It's pane as a reward, and doesn't work as an incentive.

Same, my priority is bundle, so I can cover as many games I have on my wishlist until I kinda covered it all. I only buy a game on a hard discount if and only if that game:

  1. I will play it straight away.
  2. It's historically low.
  3. Discount is significantly low to the point that it makes it a good bargain.

Like that Bayonetta who I bought just now as there's not have been any lower than that for a price. Totally worth it as I've always wanted to play it as a Devil May Cry fan, this is an excellent game for me.

Right. I just looked at my Choice & Account pages... Things have changed.

Just Skip and don't worry about the 20% off unless you plan to buy lots of games that normally don't go on sale.

Example right now:
Monster Hunter Rise Deluxe Edition
Fanatical is offering a straight up 45% off with no membership requirements. If you purchased from them recently. I might have even gotten a 5% off coupon that might boost the value.
Humble is offering the same game to me at 46% off price. Oh wait, that's 33% off store discount and 20% after that. Since % off are done separately.

So as you can see here. The 20% would not matter to me. I can get the same game at another store and not have to worry about spending $12 buck this month for games I don't want.

EASY!

In fact, I can use that $12 buck towards a game. I was thinking about getting Elden Ring and $11.99 just happens to be 20% of the price for Elden Ring. I can get a copy from Voidu for an extra 20% off coupon code. So that would basically saving 40% on it if I don't get this months bundle.

I won't though. I won't be able to play it for a couple months and best to see what the June summer sales have on it. Still, if you use GG.Deals or some other site like it. You can easily find a way to validate skipping a month and loosing that 20%.

Otherwise, get it and you can give the games away here. I don't mind entering giveaways for some of the titles. I don't care for the games but I will add them to my library if they are fee. ;P

On a side note as well for those that think to just buy it and use it for trade or resale. You can (as of this post) buy all the game from this bundle for about $25 total. This bundle has a poor value currently. Maybe some of the games will go back up in value later but that is only if they are not added to another bundle. Another reason I am passing this month. I am hard pressed to find anyone willing to give me a decent trade for the games I don't want. Most are offering me garbage games gotten from mass 50 game bundles or DIG.

And there you go. Hope you all enjoyed reading my long arse post.

Humble Bundle went from "oh those games look interesting" to "what is the price of that only game which seem to be interesting and has not been bundled 15 times before"

If people stop to constantly buy their bundles for one game, they will change their formula again

For me it's also an issue that I have years' worth of backlog from their, and other bundles. I'm gladly pay €5 for a good game, but I have dozens or even hundreds of other games I want to play, and spending more than "the minimum" on a game is only meaningful if I'll play it soon. And I can't even guarantee it for myself.

Also exploring new games is hard when - you guessed it correctly - have the backlog from years of bundles, that you still want to play.

Just let it go. You too never played 378 of your games ^^

I didn't worry too much of the discount myself since I hardly bought stuff from humble besides bundles and I don't think the discount applies to them. Also I only kept my plan so I can be on the classic plan. My 12 month plan expired in August or September. So when that arrives (depending on how much I pause, I paused this months games) I will probably just out right cancel since now everyone gets the cheaper price no need to stay on to keep my classic price... plus lately it has been getting worse, less games and less value.

And if a month comes in the future that has games I may like I then might just pay the 12 for that month and that month only. It was a fun run while it lasted.
