I'm looking for a good shmup for PC that is somewhat high quality, and no I'm not talking about Touhou games.

Something high budget like Mushihimesama Futari, Ikaruga, Crimzon Clover, DoDonPachi, or Death Smiles but for the PC and with controller support.

Share some suggestion because I'm looking for a new shmup to play without having to buy it for a console.

Edit: People are starting to cry about the links I post saying it is "piracy" so I removed the links to those games. But I will still leave you with a link to one of my favorite sites to find shmups here. Enjoy!

Well, I'm not sure if this would fit your high quality requirements, but Jamestown is a good one.
It's on sale for $4 (game only) and $6 (complete pack) on Steam. Plus you can play with three other friends as well.

What do you have against Touhou? The fact that it's an indie game, because even for one it's pretty high quality (actually, even for a normal Shmup it's pretty high quality).

Also, there's Trouble Witches (the original), and it's not bad for a sideways Shoot 'Em Up. Other than that, Jamestown, and the ones already listed (and barring console titles like Akai Katana), and Touhou, there aren't many others I can think of.

EDIT: found this - http://www.shmups.com/xenocidefiles/pc.html

I don't have anything against Touhou, I'm a shmup whore and will play anything. I just said that because I own them all.

Oh, sorry :P.

Well there's also an Indie/Doujin database I know of that has a bunch of rather high quality shmups included, one such is called "Exception", which is a rather unique take on shmups. There are actually quite a few good quality ones in the mix (and some not so good quality).

Truely one of the gems of the sega genesis. If only Sega would give it the sequel it deserves, with full 4-player online co-op and HD retro sprites.

Yeah, might be tough to find though. I played a bit of it on PSN, though it was released on PC first.

Yeah I bought the Collectors Edition from PlayAsia a few years back. Decent schmup.

I like shmups but I suck at them, haha.

Anyway, I don't know how good they are, but the Gundemonium games are on Steam. They are Gundemonium Recollection, GundeadliGne (however you pronounce that), and Hitogata Happa. They're Japanese indie shmups.

Another shmup on Steam is Satazius; I've heard it compared to Gradius before.

Got Gundemonium from the recent bundle(Great games), Satazius is diarrhea bad! Stay far away from this game!

http://ethervapor.com/ - awesome game that got updated relatively recently, this is super worth it.
http://www.locomalito.com/hydorah.php - ludicrously good free shooter in the vein of Gradius. not like the games you mentioned, but too good not to mention.
http://db.tigsource.com/games/cho-ren-sha-68k - classic, and free

of course, whenever you talk about pc shooters you have to mention Raptor and Tyrian. You can get Tyrian 2000 for free on gog, and you can get an updated version of Raptor their too for like 6 bucks. Totally worth it.

I could name a lot more, but nothing really similar to the kinds of games you like.

Also, you could always download MAME or other emulators and play the classics but I assume you already have done that. Check out Pro-Gear if you haven't played that yet. One of my personal favorites.

I do have Mame but my issue with Mame is that there are so many shmups from older systems that I have no clue where to start and what to get. I did get most of the games from Cave. Thanks for the suggestions you had some good ones.

a good place to start with arcade shooters is by looking through the catalogs of famous companies or series. Konami, Taito, Data East, Capcom, Psikyo, Compile, Cave, Sega. Gradius, R-type, darius, Twinbee, parodius, Thunder Force etc. A lot of bad games, but enough amazing ones to make it worthwhile. if you want a really easy place to start though, Konami is the company to go with. They will always be the undisputed king of shooters.

Or if you have an 360, get it there.

You could always use Dolphin to emulate Ikaruga, I doubt it's that powerful of a game to run.

Whenever there is a thread about games people want on PC, I mention CAVE games.

I'm not sure if you know that one, but there is a freeware shmup called Genetos. Pretty easy for that genre, but still fun.

I'm not really talking about games I want to be on PC, I'm just looking for a good shmup already on PC. I own most of Caves games but they're console games and I was looking to find something similar to the Cave style quality shmups on PC.

I played a ton of Raiden on my Genesis. And you can use an emulator for that. I think there are arcade versions, as well. There are a lot of raiden sequels.
