So there's this guy who has been suspended, presumably because he put up Indie Gala keys individually, but his giveaways still exist. Why aren't the giveaways removed and users refunded their entry points?

I know people can manually remove their entries, but not everyone will be aware that the user is suspended. Besides, if the giveaway isn't removed, wouldn't a winner still be selected and thus the suspended user could reward the winner anyway, thus circumventing the suspension?

Just seems odd.

Now for example u can see in steamgifts a lot giveaways of games for recently past bundles. I know that those giveaways are prohibited theoretically, but also understand that for example, if a user buy a bundle and install 4-5 games himself, and make 1,2 or 3 giveaways with the rest of games (because he dont like those games, or already own it), he should not be suspended. For me, all giveaways are wellcome. But is only my opinion.

U always can report giveaway.

Sorry if it was unclear, but I'm not debating the legality of posting individual keys from bundles. What I'm saying is, there is a user that is suspended (I believe it's against the rules to call a user out, so that's why I'm not linking his profile). It clearly says "suspended" on his profile page. But he still has four giveaways pending and he literally states that they're keys from Indie Gala VI. I'm just wondering, if he was suspended for it, why are the giveaways still up?

How about you make a support ticket to get an answer/action from the SG staff instead of dragging this out in public for the peanut gallery to create drama and hostility over it with no productive end? That's how you get stuff done. If the mods feel that this should be a public discussion, they'll bring it to the forums. If you feel that you aren't satisfied with the mods' decision, you can bring it to the forums to open a debate on it.

But what you're doing here is bypassing proper channels for no good reason that I can see, and I don't anticipate anything's going to happen to this user, especially since in order to identify them, you would be calling them out and breaking rules yourself.

  • It might not be a permanent suspension.
  • If someone wins and he sends the game then someone gets a game! I.e. The case you mention where the user could "circumvent the suspension".
  • If someone wins and he doesn't send the game, it's marked as not received and I think everyone gets their points back (do they?)

If the mods pulled the giveaways in an attempt to punish the suspended user, they might also be punishing someone who would have won his giveaways. This is assuming the open giveaways aren't bundle key violations, I mean, I'm guessing they're not since you're saying the user is suspended and you've said they're still open...

[EDIT] I've just seen your comment that the open giveaways are bundle keys, so yes they should be pulled. Best to contact support. [/EDIT]

Thank you for a thoughtful response (unlike elix).
I contacted support and they said, "Giveaways of suspended/banned users are never removed."
If what you said in point three ("I think everyone gets their points back") when a game is not given, then that's cool, and that's all I was really concerned about - that people who entered got their points back.

You followed my instructions (eventually) and got an answer to your question, whereas up until that point, we were dealing with the wishywashiness of random speculation. I don't really see why that was difficult.

And, that's interesting to know (suspended users' giveaways), because I was wondering how that would be handled myself.

I just thought the way you responded was rather rude. I'm not dumb or blind, I know where the Support button is, I just didn't see this as something I had to bother support with - I figured it was something easy the community could answer and not get into a debate over. I guess that's partly my fault - I should know by now that even the littlest thing on the Internet can spark debate.
