As I recall, these were pretty straightforward platformers. There are a TON of great platformers right now.

My guess would be animation-rich side-scrollers/platformers. One of the biggest distinction on those games for their time was how many animation frames characters had. But it's just a tip.

Donald Duck Quack Attack!, Aladdin and Lilo & Stitch Trouble in Paradise are the ones I've played and had fun with as a child.
Also if you want a good 2D scrolling game, then you should check out an episode of Jazz Jackrabbit. Had so much fun with it during I.T. classes :D

You mean... Platformers? Well, the first one to come to my mind is Castle Crashers. You could also try with Trine, Shank, Streets of Rage. And even if it's not a platformer, I have the feeling that you might like Bastion. Only 3 per 100 hundred people don't like it anyways :p

Flashback is amazing. Not quite the same type of game, even though it techinically is also a platformer. I put it closer to metroidvania, but that's not right either.
