I don't like Phil's attitude whatsoever, but he made a pretty decent game that's worth the $9 to me. Unlike countless others I'm not going to let my personal opinion of him affect my decision to buy what could be a game I really enjoy.

When I first saw Indie Game I identified with his passion for what he does, coupled with frustration in the face of all the scrutiny he was under. And I see the crude remarks he seems to like making and how he just takes pot shots at his critics, and honestly I can see where he's coming from there too. It's definitely not alright at the end of the day but I get it.

Pretty good game and it's basically the same thing...but it's free. Regardless of your personal opinion on Phil Fish, he shamelessly took an earlier game concept, put a $ sign on it, and shouted how revolutionary it is from the high heavens.

I've played at least 2 games with this same general gameplay mechanic on Kongregate alone (Sky Island being one of them). It isn't a new idea, but it is well-executed with excellent art and music, and more levels.
Before anyone whines about him copying those, you know that many (if not most) games are new interpretations of classic ideas. As a simple example, counter-strike was in no way a new idea; games like it gain respect and popularity through excellent execution (and in the case of CS, moddability).

Phil actually says what all developers think: The gaming community has a lot of real dicks in it. I can imagine that he gets tired of all complaints. Just take a look at Cube World for example: MOST people are only complaining about the game not being available and just a small amount actually shows respect for the developer.

Oh please. The whole world is not any one community. He himself is no exception to this. Humanity is an abhorrent creature, not just any one community. Also why should he get any more respect than any other artist of the current generation? History shows us that pretty much all artists get the short end of the stick, but THEY choose to do it.

Phil Fish needs a reality check, if he doesn't want criticism then release the game for free and suddenly he can say whatever he wants but no- he's providing a service in exchange for money and if he doesn't provide what we consider a fair trade then he better change whatever he's doing because we're the ones holding the cash and he better dance for it because he's the ungrateful asshole in this whole argument.

What he's offering is a fair trade. There's nothing wrong with his game. So buy it or don't. If you're one of the many people choosing to spend your time talking shit about his game and aren't willing to play it you're not "Paying for a product or service or anything". I wouldn't go to your restaurant and stand in the waiting area and point at you and your cooks and go "THESE GUYS ARE PRICKS DON'T EAT HERE. I'M NOT GONNA."

He's more than welcome to say gamers are ungrateful cunts... hell, I'd probably agree with him.
I just find it funny when he says things like "Fez is for consoles, not PC", "PC's are for spreadsheets" and "it's not about money"... then proceeds to release the game on PC a year later. I'm leaning less towards him being a misunderstood genius and more towards... well... an ungrateful cunt. Ironically, not unlike those he criticizes. I'll still likely buy and play his game at some point though.

Seriously. We would go through a true renaissance period if more developers were like him and just didn't put up with gamer bullshit. No pretenses or PR or pandering. Just acknowledge that gamers are fucking awful people, despite the games themselves having infinite potential for beauty and complexity.
I firmly believe that video games are the culmination of all art forms, wasted on some of the shittiest people in the world. The type of people that fill the cesspool that is /r/gaming.
