It's basically advertising because a lot of the games that get no advertising die on release. It's just meant so you wishlist it, and then steam is gonna pump it more right before it actually releases compared to titles that lack the wishlists.

Literally looking at Steam store promo's earlier today, and while it didnt show the indie X promo, it did show me a anime puzzlegame suggested by someone in my friends list.
Looking now, and it still doesnt show me anything about IndieX
