I just noticed that the price of old passes has droppped dramatically, not long ago the oldest pass cost around 70$ whilst now it's gone to around 50$. did something happen?

maybe somoene bought it, realised how useless it is and then tried to get some money back fast. Or the old seller noticed that no one is buying them and made them cheaper.

I suppose you're talking about Vanguard Pass, prices have been dropping since March this year, nothing special.

doesn't everything decrease in value as it ages just about? i mean beyond those extremely rare things anyways, and even then sometimes too.

4 years ago Keys were 2.66 ref or something, then slowly to 10, then it skyrocketed to 20 and it has been around that mark for around 1-2 years.

4years ago they were that ~7-8ref.. i have never seen 2.66ref = key, nor anywhere remotely close to that low.

history shows it being ~$0.40 at its highest point which would be around 5-6ref = key

that is crazy though, i really didn't know that. glad i wasnt trading with ref during those times. not room for flex at all. =)

the peak of my trading didnt go back as far as i thought really, only ~2.5years really ago.. not 3-4 like i was starting to think it was.. i keep forgetting i have had this steamgifts account 1year longer then i actually started using it.

Well I myself have been trading for a year or 3 I suppose, mainly selling gifts so I didnt have any problems with the low key price. Back in those days you could basicly idle your way to a key, you still can but now it takes so long (back then it still took a whole tho).

when i was trading i preferred the 1-2ref trading routes. 1ref for cheaper bundlegames or 2ref for slightly higher tier sounded and worked out great at the time.. (ofc still bta and above avg tiers would be more still)

but now it looks like it would be more in the 2-4ref range which still works, just doesnt sound as good.

True.

It's because that you need more refs compared to 1 key (though it has been 12 cents for atleast 1 year probably even more).

i know.. but u asked to explain so i did.. it may of been that way for a year.. but i didn't notice the change (nor care for that matter).. same thing as op didnt notice the decrease in price of whatever item they are talking about... everything decreases in value eventually.

Most if not all CS:GO passes lost value recently. It's just market tendencies, it will rise in the future (though you never know when).

AFAIK passes were mostly used as gambling currency - low supply = high price. No gambling, no need to keep them - bigger supply = lower price.

It's not the only reason, but one of the biggest ones - lack of gambling really cut quite a lot of demand, so lots of item lost value.

That shit was used for gambling mostly afaik , so no gambling no use for it .... therefore the price drop .
