Nordic Games is giving Deathinitive Edition for all, who owns Darksiders franchise pack, but if you bought D1+D2 separately, you just get 80% discount for the first week of sales.
Sounds good for the first sight, but it's like a dick move for buyers of separate games.
Details on their steam discussions

UPD.: Finally, they've added an autocheck and giving away for new version of DS2:

I own Darsiders 1 , Darksiders 2 and Season Pass and they give me a %80 off only. It should've been a free upgrade, they're being greedy and I will not pay another cent for Nordic games again.

I'll just quote this again:

"
Our original plan was to have the free copy unlocked for everyone owning Darksiders II and ALL DLCs, but unfortunately this was not possible from a purely technical point of view (on Steam). Therefore we chose to give our loyal fans the closest possible option to this original plan:
"

TL;DR: This is because Valve can't get their act straight, not because the publisher wants to milk people for cash

It simply isn't true, other have done it and even Van Helsing Final Cut is doing it tomorrow. (if you own all three, you get it free, otherwise you get discount. Doesn't matter if bought separately or not).

I'm pretty sure it's because of the DLCs. And we all know Steam isn't good at checking if someone owns those. So I don't think it was possible here, at least the way they wanted.

But I agree that there probably were better ways to do it anyway.

Publishers have better API that gives/supports DLC too. One of suggestion I gave them was making website which checks ownership, which was ignored too.

Also you know how good publishers act? They just give that new patched same game for free to all owners of Darksiders 2, without blaming Valve or other shit, because they appreciate their fans.

How bad publishers act? They blame others, they ripoff you by trying to sell the same game but a little patched to make money again from new gen consoles, instead of making the 3rd game, they just act greedy and see their fans as some kind of crap from who they can squeeze money.

My Darksiders 1 is retail, but my Darksiders 2 + season pass was bought before the game release for full price and now those retards say I have to pay more to have the same thing, just to receive the drop of some cards, it sounds stupid, thay are totally retards.

I had same issue with Fallout:NV, when if you wanted to buy DLC, than you should buy GOTY edition and overpaying 3 times.

Did no't care to play DS1 nor 2 yet (only tested) ... just seen the comparison:
Darksiders 2 Deathinitive Edition: PS4/Xbox One/PC Graphics Comparison
^ except that the colors look more washed out (reality like - not suitable for this game for my taste)
and better shadows barely nothing looks different ... cash grab upgrade

now view this DS 2 with SweetFX Settings one can apply for free ... SFX Preset - Darksiders 2 w/ENB
^ makes their Derp-Iniative Update look pale in comparison

I got it for free, but honestly, other companies(well, in the past, now it's more like indie companies) would release that as a free update/patch for the game rather than re-releasing it and charging money for it. This is terrible practice.

I didn't bother with the DS2 DLC so I didn't qualify but it seems I still wouldn't have anyway since I activated the Darksiders 1 from retail CD key...

6€ for a patch? No thanks.
After a week 29,99€ for a patch? Say what now? Total rip-off.

I would understand if you would get more content with it like if you only own the older base game.
If they would have tied the free update to the season pass, everything would be good in my books.

Dropping the new cards now, nice!

I was a bit concered that Deathinitive would remove the original DS II from the library but fortunately that was not the case.

sigh

I bought Darksiders 1, 2 and every DLC individually but never bought the soundtrack to Darksiders II. I guess that is the only thing that prevented me from having the "Franchise Pack". Pay $6 over a skipped soundtrack? :(

Nope, you had to own Franchise Pack, I mean "The Franchise Pack", which was bought in Steam Store, and not collected seperately.

Just to clarify...

What matters is having purchased "The Franchise Pack" from anywhere...I got mine on G2A and still received Deathinitive :-)

Yeah, I'm just tired. i wanted to point out, that if you got the games from seperate keys, then it's not gonna work :D

Edit: And is it as bad as they say? I got DS 2 for like 2.5$, and I like it. I'd buy the Deathnitive for 6 EUR, but if it's as bad as the reviewers say, I'd probably miss out on that -80%

i got the new version, but i must say this is a shitty move. they should just give out free copies to their loyal customers. and if their excuse is really true, why just a 80% coupon? why not at least 90% or more?

So does the DLC really add anything worthwhile to the game? I never actually looked into it and am curious if it'd be worth the $6.

It's a good pack, if you own the base game, but no DLC. But if you have everything for the now removed DarkSiders 2, then it's just a paid patch, like almost all Remasters and Definitive Editions are. Also as I heard it crashes a lot, so 90% of the people are bombing it with negative reviews.

No, thanks. It's basically screwing over fans who bought DS1 and DS2 at release for full price, then trying to blame Valve for not being able to compensate them. Every DLC has its own unique appid, and it wouldn't be so hard to check for ownership of the DLC, the same way they checked for ownership of the base games and gave a discount.

This seems to be becoming a trend among developers/publishers, and one I can't get behind. Sorry, not going to pay extra for a patch.

Still better than fucking Bethesda that will release GOTY edition at same price that 2 DLC on a sale, so if you miss something you arew fucked either way.

= Never buy a Bethesda game right away.

I got the CD version of Morrowind, they released Tribunal and Bloodmoon. A bit later the GOTY version was sold for peanuts. I got Oblivion and Knights of the Nine for full price on DVDs. They release Shivering Isles and soon afterwards the GOTY for the price of the original game. I get Skyrim for less than 4 bucks, but end up buying the 'legendary edition' because the effin' DLC never go on sale.

Never again, Bethesda. NEVER. AGAIN.

For owners of the regular Darksiders 2, $6 is still cheaper than all the DLC. Worth it to upgrade. It's a much better value than the Scholar of the first Sin business for Dark Souls 2.

I am a sucker for definitive editions and this was as much as a painless purchase as could be for me.

On the other hand, now that I've had a few hours some time to play with the new edition, if you do have to pay for it here's a few points to consider that can be pinned purely on Nordic:

  • Despite claims of re-balanced loot, I'm still seeing the issues I saw in the original version: early game secondary weapons are overpowered, other gear still underpowered.
  • Game feels easier overall for same difficulty levels.
  • Overall framerate is better, but there's still weird stutters every once in a while
  • I've not seen any more crashes than I had in old version. Game still likes to crash if you alt-tab out and back in though
  • Extra effects and better lightning do help add atmosphere to the world
  • Reworked textures do take the edge ot the sharp comic-book look. Wether that's good or bad depends on preference.

So all things considered: really not much better than any other "HD" re-release, not worth the price unless you're missing DLC.
And going by the reviews so far, also with plenty of porting issues that I've been lucky enough to dodge.

So another $6.60 CDN for a game I already own, along with all the DLC and the first game just to get 1080p?

No thanks, I can wait till its cheaper. I still have not really played it as I keep getting distracted with other games and only have so much room to install stuff.

I know its a technical issue, its ticked me off with other games too, but if its just a graphics update thats not really something that should be sold. Thats not something I agree with for any game.

If it shows up for a buck somewhere, I might grab it, maybe by then I will have the room to install it.

^ This.

I bought both games early on, along with the DLC. Screw those guys. Won't be rushing out to buy Darksiders 3, that's for sure...

As I understand things, it's little more than a graphical update. It should really be a patch, or a free upgrade for owners of the current game, in the style of most games which have had a so-called "HD" graphical facelift.

So, if I own both Darksiders and Darksiders 2 games and all DLCs (yes, including soundtrack), I still have to pay 6 buxx for bugfixes and HD textures? Seriously? And your only argument is "well, you could pay full price, but we are super duper generous, so you're not have to"??? Yeah, guys, nice try to force your customers in paying twice for the same product. Burn in hell, greedy busturds.
