I'm trying to work on a few.

Using guides
And I mean for anything weather it be item locations to smaller things like easter eggs.
Guides were and still kinda are a grey area for me. When I was younger I used them a lot to make sure I could complete the games without any sort of hiccups along the way, then I started to rely on them less just for item locations and quests, and now I only rely on them after I been stuck on a game for about 1 day or more which seems more reasonable than using them for everything. Reason for this is because for me at least it ruins the game experience. Without a doubt they are useful, but what's the point in playing a game if you're listening to someone else the entire time?

Last game I used a guide for was Dragon Quest II which is an early console RPG and early console RPGs are known for being very very vague on were to go next, and since I'm playing the series in order I think I'll be using guides for the next few months D:

Fast traveling
This one is kinda awkward because at first I didn't like fast-traveling at least not in western or level-adjusted RPGs as opposed to a game like Final Fantasy X where backtracking is not recommended at all. Then I just became lazy and started fast-traveling for everything defeats the purpose in most games that have fast traveling because odds are if they do have this feature it's an open-world game and one of the selling points in them is exploring.

I also need to stop breaking off from the group in tactical FPSes like Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 and the Operation Flashpoint games. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Not very fun losing making your friends restart the map, bad damn does it feel good when you do it.
I'm sorry ;_;

What are yours?

I actually like fast travel, but I guess I use it differently from most people. I only use it if I'm pretty sure I've already found every location between the two points. If there's nothing else to find, there's no point taking the time to walk through the same place over and over again. I already have to take the same route to work every day, don't want to do that in game too :P

Worst habit.

I've been trying to get rid of this one gaming habit for years and years. Every time I see a game in the store that I'd like to have, I muster up the self-control to say "No." I already have a boatload of games I haven't even tried, yet. I don't need one more to add to the pile just because it's shiny and new and exciting. Sure, all of my friends are buying and playing it, but I don't have that kind of free time. I already have plenty of wonderful games to look forward to without needing to buy anything.

And then it goes on sale for 80% off and I buy it, anyway. Epic fail.

Looking at the achievement list when playing a game! Wish I could just enjoy playing without it bothering me. I also look at achievement guides sometimes if I'm too lazy to figure out how to earn it which makes me feel bad of course :|

  • I always start the game in the lowest difficulty available, not that I can't play on higher difficulty, I just avoid challenges and concentrate on the story.
  • Most of the time I play with no sound, dunno why... I just like that.
  • Even if it takes 30 minutes to take all loot, I must do it.

Staying inside all day... It's a VERY bad habit, so I try to go take a walk everyday at 3 o'clock, thanks to a timed alarm on my desktop.
Unfortunately, I only obey to my own rule 75% of the time...

Playing video games on my PC for 10 hours + straight. I am in the last grade of high school and I give the final exams in ~60 days and I have studied almost NOTHING since the beginning of the year... Oh, not to mention that I barely studied the previous years too... Too busy with playing games. lol

I can stay away from guides (aside from wanting to 100% HUGE collections like feathers in AC2, I do use guides for the last few items usually). I do use fast travel, but I don't consider that a bad habit :)

I often slip into using hotspot indicators gradually over the course of a playthrough in adventure games. I always start out trying to rely on my own pixel hunting skills, then use some hotspot help if it seems like I missed something, then by the end of the game I automatically use them whenever I enter a location because at that point I feel like I'm a cheater anyway.

Oh, also, in open-world games, I absolutely need to complete all side missions and challenges before going on to big story quests. It's not too bad a habit, but it sometimes gets tedious and even I get bored of repetitive side missions and just want to go onto something bigger but I just.. can't.

+1 for open-world - Brutal Legend is a great example...incredibly tedious because there's literally a shitton of stuff

I keep intending to get back to collecting the rest of the stuff in that game. I loved the story, characters and world, but once I beat a game, I have a tendency to lose all interest in it.

Things like feathers are one of the few things I use guides for ever. When it's just stupidly annoying. Even with a guide, it takes forever and is such a grind.

I was only missing two feathers in AC2, but considering they could be anywhere and I'd have to check all of them to find the missing two, I gave up. At least the later games tell you which areas you're missing.

Yeah I think I only had maybe 5 missing by the time I finished everything else, but I still went back and got those remaining few with a guide. It was a pain in the ass.

I really liked how in Revelations once you collected half the fragments (50), all others were automatically revealed on your map. I thought that didn't take the fun out of finding some on your own, and also didn't kill the enjoyment of collecting by making you scour every corner looking for them.

Totally. I collected most of them on my own anyways, and then just wrapped up the last ones. I thought that was a nice balance to reward people that bothered to collect that many and a good incentive to finish collecting them all.

  • Buying too many games: Buying waaay too many, without playing a fraction of them. I just love having them. Can't catch up.
  • Playing MMOs: These consume a huge chunk of time, which while fun, prevents all the great experiences of playing lots of much shorter games.
  • Completionist/Achievement Hunter: Taking huge amounts of time, trying to complete goals with virtually no meaning or effect. All time that can be used for genuine experiences with new games.
  • High Difficulty: I can't help but play many games at high difficulty, especially for games I'm mostly just interested in the story. I need to prioritize what I really want, and play at lower difficulty and get the experience I want sometimes, and not just challenge for it's own sake.
  • Fizzle Out - Often with games like JRPGs, when I get near the end, I realize there is almost nothing left to learn in the story, or challenges to overcome and suddenly don't have the desire to finish the game anymore. I need to just put the nail in the hammer. Damn it JRPGs, just stop making the end of your games idiotically annoying. I dont need 8 tier bosses, with 1 shot kills you can't see coming. I don't appreciate the mindless grinding and memorization/repetition in place of actual strategy.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

I'm sorry ;_;"

Damn straight you're sorry. The amount of restarts we have to do because of your lone wolf addiction is unreal.

My worst habit is probably starting games before I have finished others. I am currently in the middle of 20-30 games, since I get half way through them and start another.

Also impulse buying. I see something on sale, buy it on a whim, then never play it for months.

Those are the only two I can think of at the moment.

Edit: Hoarding
I hoard so much crap in RPGs, or any game with an inventory system. If I have armour I like, I will keep it forever. It becomes an absolute pain once I reach the inventory/weight limit. Then in games like Fallout I become addicted to drugs just because I need to carry 20 pounds more.

Heavy middle finger.

Often I'll just start clicking the left mouse button with my middle finger, idk maybe i got tired of holding it up. In some games that has cost me, GOF2 theres a nuke that pretty much hits everything in the system its so dang powerful (the flavor text for it says its capable of changing planetary orbits its so strong) I've shot it out on accident a few times, one of those times it earned me an achievement.

I had a save in skyrim where I never fast traveled. Only allowed myself to use the horse and cart and it gave me so many more hours in the game considering I was exploring so many more locations.

I have a horrible habit of just collecting games. I know I have more then I could ever play, but I keep buying them. I just can't stop. >.<

I'm also trying to get into the habit of playing more. As it is now, I get on to play something and I spend an hour trying to pick something to play, only to never play anything in the end.

And lastly, loot. I have to pick it all up. Even in Dungeon Defenders after all the loot drops are useless and you automatically get the money for it once you've completed the level, I still HAVE to go around and pick it all up.

You should see my house in Skyrim too. I gave up on putting things into chests and just go in and dump it all on the ground. It takes well over 10 minutes for my house to load now. I also have a giant pile of crap outside the entrance of every major city. I MIGHT NEED IT SOMEDAY.

Buying uncomplete games. Beta, alpha, or kickstarted. If i ever do it again, it will be after a lot of thought. (Rant incoming!)

I've only Kickstarted 1 thing ever, and that was a game.. before they even started making it. So you can expect i've waited for it for a while now. Its maybe 1 and a half year. It takes so long between the updates, and ofcourse it does, but i just dont have the patience. And when its finally done, i wont be bothered. But atleast i contributed.

And the thing with buying into Alpha/Beta games: I used to really like it. Some of them is like constant new content, And who dosn't like new stuff! But sometimes i didn't like the changes they made(happened with "Don't Starve"). Features that changed the game so much, i did not enjoy it anymore.

But thats the thing with getting unfinished stuff, right? Its unfinished. It can change as much as the makers want it to.

Its 00:37 here right now. Im really tired and trying to write my opinions on forums. Probably not a good mix(I'll tell ya tomorrow) G'night.

Seems a lot of you buy games you never play. I can't say i've tried that. But i feel like im only getting the expensive ones. Lately its been Assassin's Creed 3, 4 & now Watch_Dogs. (And i may also be getting AC5 if i know myself right. Yes, its only just announced. And yes, i think i've gotten into the trap of purchasing a franchise game on a yearly basis.)

I don't really like the thought of using that much money a year on entertainment, even though i actually complete the games.

In other news, its 01:00 right now, and im STILL on the forums. Despite what i wrote above. Lets try again: Goodnight, im shutting off my pc NOW.
