But the issue that the thread brought up remained, at least to me, so how should I have raised my question? It's not that I don't understand the "Oh great, another one of those threads" reaction, but I didn't see a better way to bring this up.

We're adults, and they're not trolling in a mean spirited way, but in an entertaining way. I think that's it. We're not affiliated with Valve, so we have no investors to keep pleased.

4:40 AM - cg: One thing I want to avoid is the community feeling like they have a ban hammer hanging over their head. It's a forum, I think people should be free to disagree, argue, and get a little out of hand at times. I don't think we're here to suspend people because they called someone an idiot, said screw you, or anything along those lines.

Sorry if I'm being a pedant, but doesn't the FAQ state we should be considerate? With a collection of responses like what I saw in Mezza's thread I would've said that's too much and at least closed the thread sooner, but I'm obviously not you, so while I understand you don't want to moderate us to death, where is the line drawn? Maybe that's a question that can't be answered simply.

It's not at all a simple question, and one of the problems we deal with all the time. Some things are clearly on one side or the other, but if it's uncertain, I try to let it slide. The community can be rather self-regulating that way at times. If someone takes things too far for most people, they'll probably get to hear about it plenty without our involvement.

I read through the first, and the second one that was in regard to the first, but in a stupid manner, and Mezza's thread was at least genuine in the post. His wasn't said in a manner that was derogatory, although if he phrased it in a way that sounded obscene, it would probably have been closed.

I had not seen the thread since the time of that posting, and for some reason your link only lead me to the main branch and not Mezza's comment, it did the second time though. People are pretty dumb and test the limits of what they can get away with, and that's how it will always be. People should try to act normal (No offensise to dumb people, if you think you're dumb.. Maybe).

Isn't it setting the precedent that we're allowed to make threads where we respond to people as quoted here? Do we all get to make those threads? Do we perhaps only get to start telling people to fuck off as long as it's for the trollololz? At least the thread was eventually closed, but even that much took way too long. Is there some reason for this?
