This is great news, Microsoft having a PC gaming monopoly is no good for anyone... Vavle's attempts at getting devs to do native Linux ports hasn't been all that successful either. Maybe this way they can grow a big enough player base on Linux to make native ports in the future a more viable proposition for devs.

Valve finally did something good again. I am so happy end excited for this one as I was getting sick and tried of dealing with my very broken, borderline unusable Wine install of Steam.

Valve doing something really beneficial. And good.
Must be the time of year when our universe briefly collides with that of a mirror universe and some things seep through. Nowadays it is so uncharacteristic from them to do something this beneficial to the gaming community (even if this will improve business, technically, the Linux users can spend some more money). I wonder where this may go, despite them having almost marginally no Linux users among the userbase.

Valve pushing open source and fighting a good fight again. Nice to see that. I had to abandon Linux a few years ago because of my work, but am strongly supporting this initiative. Yes, native games would be much better, but you can't force all the devs/publishers to do it, so as a 2nd best thing, this is great.
FAQ is also a great read, and some of the suggestions can lead to good things in general:
Q: I'm a developer; I wasn't planning on targeting Linux, how can I best leverage the new Steam Play?
We recommend you target Vulkan natively in order to offer the best possible performance on all platforms, or at least offer it as an option if possible. It's also a good idea to avoid any invasive third-party DRM middleware, as they sometimes prevent compatibility features from working as intended.

And here I am. Played linux native games for last couple of years on my Dell XPS. Missed some Skyrim. Installed windows on the weekend and now I see this. Don't tell me Skyrim LE is available under linux via Steam Play.
PS: looks like Skyrim works: https://steamcommunity.com/app/221410/discussions/0/1734336452575505938/

This is great news!
Im still going to buy only games that work on Linux so this does not affect me very much. But it does helps linux gaming.

Found a thread where people share their findings of what works and what's not: https://steamcommunity.com/app/221410/discussions/0/1734336452575505938/
Skyrim, Oblivion, Elder Scrolls: Legends, Red Alert 3, The Walking Dead, Bioshock, KOTOR, Overcooked, DMC4, GTA San Andreas, No Man's Sky, and many more are working. I'm hyped! Cant wait for the stable release.

There is also a spreadsheet where it might be a tiny bit easier to find info about the exact game someone might be looking for.

Exciting news. There's a community list of games which work or not on google docs.

Souds great! Maybe I can finally use Linux only
(right now I have too many games that do not run on Linux, so that I have to use Windows to play them, unfortunately)
Looking forward to give it a try :)

Maybe this will be the thing we need to go full Linux. One thing to note is
I'd have wagered Denuvo would be one of the problematic DRMs, but two of the games using it are on the list of whitelisted titles (NieR: Automata and Tekken 7), so maybe even that won't be an issue.
