The second one improves GREATLY the combat gameplay, all skills are useful and for every char there is 2 or 3 good builds ( those days of gazillion useless mage spells are gone, and warriors with ALL skills picked up), but the backgrounds are always the same recycled environments and it becomes really repetitive on that side. Boss fights also are a huge improvement from DAO. History isn't as epic as the first one, but it has some amazing parts, and again, some boss fights will keep you on your toes, specially playing on nightmare.

Also, while in DAO only there was one or two good companions, all of the ones you can carry along on DA2 are way better personality wise, at least for me

This is probably the best sum up of DA2 that i have ever read. I really enjoyed DA2 even tough it has its flaws. Hat down to you sir! :)

The second one is much better than the first one since it actually has a story worth mentioning and well written characters in the party and the player character isn't a mute anonymous person without any personality of his/her own anymore.

I loved the first and hated the second. Rheed has a pretty good summary on what DA2 was like in comparison, and if that stuff doesn't bother you it wasn't the worst game in history. I loved DAO for the story more than most of the other game elements, and that was one of the big areas where DA2 fell short for me. I may give it another playthrough since my nerd rage has subsided a bit, though.

Even not liking DA2, I say buy it, definitely worth that price.

In my opinion the First one was the best. Having said that I have beaten the first one atleast ten times by now. Now I love the series so much that I also loved the second one. But the second one was quite bad. You can easily tell you are running through the same designed dungeon multiple times. But I was able to look past that and still play the entire game. The combat is a lot smoother but I quite liked the tactical feel in the first.

I don't have it at the moment and I'd prefer to get it on Steam or Origin.

A physical copy would be even better.

Dragon Age Ultimate is worth it by itself. If you think of it that way, then Dragon Age 2 is good as a free addition. I never finished 2, it's pretty disappointing.

Dragon Age: Origins occasionally suffers from generic fantasy cliches and long dungeon slogs, but is otherwise great. Awakening is very nice on its own merits, but I did feel like it suffered a bit because it felt sort of awkward in the way my character's standing shifted from the end of the main campaign going into the expansion. This may be less true depending on the choices you make, though. The other DLC for DA:O is a mixed bag, but some of it is really good. I recall thinking the Leliana one was particularly well done.

I have yet to play DA2. Reviews I've seen have generally said it was inferior to the original, but I don't know how true that is or how big the difference is. All of DA:O at $7.50 is definitely a good deal, and I think even if it's flawed it's probably worth paying an extra $2.50 to get the full package with DA2 in it.

It's definetly worth getting. DA:O and Awakening are amazing titles. DA II, not so much.

DA:O is an amazing game with a lot of mods. DA2 isn't as great, it's decent at first but then it just gets boring by the start of act 2.

Dragon age origins is amazing. it's basecally one of the best WRPGs that i have played. it has a cliched story like LOTR which for me is awesome. It is very similar to KOTOR.
Dragon age awakening is more of the same, which is quite good if you liked origins. in this expansion you have a castle and everyone treats you as a hero. this is what espansion packs should be.
Dragon age 2 is like a double edge sword. the gameplay is so diferent that it doesnt even seem to be a dragon age game. the story is not heroic like the first and there is a lot of zone recycling.is dragon age 2 a good RPGs? yes it is. Is it a good Dragon age? no. for me dragon age 2 shouldn´t have been a numbered sequel.
this is my opinion, i am sure some people prefer DA 2 to DA:O however none can dismis how amazing was DA:O when it launched. it almost took me by surprise (since it was made by bioware i already had high expectations)

I have to agree with what you said about DA2. Comparing it to DA:O is silly, they are two different games that share the same general story and same name. Love them both.

DA:O is very overrated IMO but a bundle including DAO & DA2 for $9.99 is a good deal. Go for it.

One more question. Open world or linear?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Compared to elder scrolls or fallout, it's a tiny world. A few branching paths that all get you to the same place.

so more like Witcher?

Yes, a bit more linear than Witcher.
Hub areas are open to exploration, but dungeons are pretty much linear.

DA:O is great though, worth it for that.

Course thats my opinion soo, make your own judgement.

DA:O is the one of the best RPG games I've ever played. DA2 just doesn't cut it. But, for 10$ for both of them, that's a bargain you should not miss. Great games, you won't regret it. :)

The second one is pure shit though.

Origins is great. high fantasy standard stuff, no suprises.

DA2 isn't as generic(i.e you're the chosen one; go save the world) or "Epic" compared to the original. I actually really enjoyed the story, and characters more in some places.

They're definitely two quite diffirent games. People who expected the sequel to be more of the same, were disappointed and are still pissy about it for some reason. Don't listen to them, make your own mind up.

Dragon age ultimate is regarded as a fantastic game, and while people dont like dragon age 2 as much i dont think its seen as a terrible game.

10$ for both of these is a great deal.

Dragon Age: Origins
162.3 hrs on record

Dragon Age: Origins - Ultimate Edition
90.6 hrs on record

Dragon Age II
64.2 hrs on record

For 10 dollars thats an absolute steal for how much gameplay you'll get out of them. Do it.

I suppose I should actually answer the question... DA:UE has DA:Origins which is an absolutely fantastic game. Its expansion is well... an Expansion, some added skills and stuff over-all same experience.

Dragon Age 2 though its not as amazing as DA:O was I still loved it to bits. I enjoyed playing it... its far more actiony then DA:O was. So maybe you'll like that? Maybe not?

DA Origins is an amazing game, probably my favorite Bioware game to date.
DA2, on the other hand, was so bland I stopped playing it after just 2 hours.
Still, $10 for both is a steal; if you have the money, you should definitely get them.
