Hello everyone!

TLDR:
I had 2 limited accounts on Steam. Contacted support to get rid of limits as I should never have them - without success. Now, magically, one of the accounts unlocked 10 itself without me doing anything and is able to get cards. WTF is going on with Steam?

Long boring story:
Every event I have been collecting these holiday cards that are time limited (summer, winter etc.) on few accounts. However, I had 2 limited accounts that basically couldn't do anything on Steam comunity. I have been earnings badges on them anyway, adding free games from time to time etc.
As some of You might know, Steam implemented those account limitation somewhere in the past (I don't remember exact date now) that was about to limit every new account created AFTER that date. At least that's how I understood it. All my accounts (but those 2) were all OK, eventhough I've never made a purchase on them. Just those 2 accounts, which at first I didn't even remember creating, got limited (their lvls changed to 0, there was no way to use Steam community etc.). That shouldn't happen at all since I've created those accounts long time ago. I even contacted Steam support about this but after numerous replies I sent to their bots, I think I finally got answer from real person that said that they won't help me with that. Regardless of limitation, I have been doing all those queue browsing etc on them just in case if I perhaps could get some Steam Wallet code to redeem or something. This is how I logged into 2 of them today to complete daily tasks to get cards. First one was still limited so viewing queue didn't give any results but reserving those cards. However, the 2nd one surprisingly got the cards from doing the tasks. I've checked the profile and what did I see? Lvl of that account magically changed to 10! I got happy that the account has been unlocked but then I've checked some other features that were locked and apparently account is still limited. I was like "WTF Steam?" but I'm quite happy - 3 more cards every day for me. PErhaps there is some way to turn limited accounts into unlocked? Or perhaps it "unlocks" account in certain moment or after some more time (this unlocked account is 8 years old).
Perhaps anyone of You had any similar experience?

This is even more weird what's shown on the account: Giveaway in the picture

I'm gonna visit my grandma and I might not be able to deliver the prize just after it ends as I messed up with ending time. Hope it's okay.
PS. Giveaway has been revealed to few Friends of mine

from what I noticed you have to spend a amount into your alt accounts
to get rid of those limitations after that you can use market to sell, and
even trade and dont forget that you need mobile authenticator as well

How much do you need for new accounts?

If im not wrong it should be 10 bucks.
edit: forgot to mention that you have to keep that account active as well, buy something
from time to time so you dont have to deal with that again lol

Really? I know Steam says something like that that You need to buy something every X months but, as for my main account (aka this), I haven;t bought anything on Steam store for like half a year or something and I am still able to sell. It's the same on my other account, the only additional one with market enabled that has movile thing.
I was actually thinking (and still am) to get/trade for Steam Wallet Code, activate it on my limited account, buy something for it and get rid of the problem. That would be super bad if I had to buy something from time to time to keep it unlocked.

No, you need to spend 5.00 USD on it, and that is it. My alt didn't spend anything for well over a year now, but it is a fully unlocked and actively card-trading half-bot account.

That's nice, thanks for letting me know?
BTW. You have to SPEND those $5 for some game rather than just adding it to the account, right?

No, you just have to spend five dollars. A wallet top-up does the same. I added 20 bucks there, because you can never know, but I never touched it since then.

That's true. However, I have never spent a $ on those other accounts I have...
About trading... Seems that I amble to receive items and trade CS:GO skins (I've won few on some sites) but when I wanted to send those holiday cards, I simply couldn't even see them in the inventory. It shows "Community items (4)" or something like that but when I click on I see nothing.

One of my alts is still limited, but it drops cards even tho it's not supposed to do so and it even level-ups from time to time.
However I've not been able to send said cards to my main, 300 cards just sitting there waiting for me to pay the 5 bucks to remove the limitations.

So it looks like You can't trade community items on limited accounts. That's most likely why I don't see any items in the tarde window there. Thanks for letting me know!
BTW. HAs it been like that since beginning? I mean.... One of my limited alts became "less-limited" recently and got the lvl visible. However, another one still has lvl 0 and can't drop cards. I'm curious if it would be possible to get the other acc unlocked as well.

Their rules are kinda weird, and also the system is bugged. When I vote in my alt I get a message saying that I will get the cards when the account reaches lvl 8 (that alt is lvl 5) but immediately after I get the drop in my inventory anyway.
Good thing my other alt works just fine.

Yeah, this is weird... I remember having an alt account below required lvl and I had the same message everytime I was supposed to get a card (that was year or 2 ago though). I remmebr I got cards only after I reached said lvl.

I guess, from your point is that the account do drop cards, even though it is limited.. the way you can trade the dropped cards to your main is to put a 5$ steam wallet in there to enable the trading. ( that's what i did for my alt acc ) And after that you're fine, and with that 5$ stuck in your alt , choices you have is to spend stuff for that alt or gift yourself a game. ( I also use Desktop Authenticator for my alt - but still it does require phone number )

and as far as i know, it's the only way out if you really wanna send those cards into your main. ( or enable trading )

Well, trading IS enabled but we just can't trade community items on limited accounts I think.
Also, how does this Desktop authenticator work? I have most of my alts on my smartphone but this Desktop thing looks interesting.

instead of using the steam app on your phone, you open the Steam Desktop Authenticator ( gives you the login codes / also allows you to accept trades ) from your dekstop, no need for the phone.., but still requires a legit phone number /

  • +can also accumulate many accounts

  • +i think it's a little helpful especially when you have a lot of alt accs

  • -cannot chat view / etc like the Steam App on phone ( only login key and accept trades )

  • -not good if you are going outside | unlike steam app, it's on your phone and can bring anywhere,

Here is the link: to SDA

edit: 1 hour till Christmas ends :) Merry Christmas

Here are some examples: ( my farming acc ) [

Thanks a lot for all the information!
We definitely need portable version of this and I'm sure it could get even more popular.
As for now I think I will stick up with common phone app anyway. Mostly because I would get 7/14 days tradeban on every account with mobile authenticator... (why did Valve do such a stupid thing? Still can't believe it works like this, even my dad was shocked when I told him why I didn't want to get rid of my old phone).

maybe my theory is they don't want people making huge profits, same applies why we have region locked games.. think of it.

Yeah but the thing is how could we do huge profit with a possibility to change mobile authenticator without tradeban? :D

About that, do you know if I can use the same paypal account that I use in my main to spend those $5 in my alt?
I never had to spend anything in my other alt cos it's from back when activating a gift was good enough to lift the limitations.

Not sure about that, but I guess you can??? cause you own both the account and the paypal account... idk..

Yeah, it was mostly cos steam's TOS is kinda weird in some aspects. Thanks for the help :)
And merry Christmas to you too!

Steam TOS is indeed weird and bad. However, nobody cares about it and it looks like Steam doesn't care at all if anyone breaks their rules or not.

Isn't it like ... You can drop card and stuff , but you cannot trade them ?

That's how I remember it being

Indeed, that's how it used to work, until one of the latest updates locked card drops on restricted accounts.
Basically, new accounts are like trade banned accounts now, except that unlike them, they can activate games.

They can receive items as well.
I haven't checked but I am able to trade CS:GO skins I've got on my limited acc just fine. I can't see any cards while having trade window opened though so something is definitely blocked if it comes to trading.
And I can now get card drops just fine on that one acc which got its lvl visible :P

Apparently it's not 100% true. I mean... I can't check that since I don't have any game with in-game drops on that account but I am able to trade CS:GO skins I've got there just fine. I just can't trade community items like cards, those simply don't appear in a trade window at all.

As long as you put $5USD worth of cash into the steam wallet, it'll get unlocked and you can gift a game to your main with that $5. So if you're really into keeping -by the sounds of it- lots of alt steam accounts, why not put some money into alt accounts to gift games to your main whenever you want to buy a game? If you're card farming I'm sure you'll earn back that money in no time. Then slowly they'll all be legit unrestricted.

Any more than 2 or 3 steam accounts seems too much work.

That's true. Hopefully You don't have to buy something frequently to maintain that though...
Why is that much work? You mean getting cards from voring/browsing queue or something else?

Another thing about Steam being weird...
This means something like: "All the best, [V]es[L]o! Your Steam account is celebrating its 3 years today!"
...while having account since 2008...
