I was just wondering everyones thoughts, on how far a simple thank you goes.

Does it make you feel good to get a thank you from the people entering your giveaways?

Does it make you feel good to get a thank you email from the winner of a giveaway?

I guess in my opinion the "thank you"'s from entrants, don't really spark that joy joy feeling inside. Although I suppose it hurts a little when no-one comments at all. However today I got a thank you email from a winner, and that just made my day.

If it's a generic thanks on the giveaway page, I don't feel much, but when some winners send a thank you back, it means the world to me.

I only email back if their Steam profile isn't open for comments as I don't like giving away my full name :)

^ This. I guess I should start.
Just because I really do not want to be thanked when I give away a code, does not mean that others do not.

If the code is sent through email, I email back to say thanks and let them know I got it.

It's pretty incomprehensible that people get games here but no thanks..

I always reply and say thanks, if the key worked or not, thanks again (and so on) to emails that say I'm the winner. I am a good person.

A simple thank you doesn't really do much for me (I prefer personalised/funny comments), but I definitely notice if someone doesn't do it at all when entering a giveaway. That irritates me.

-1, copy-pasting " thanks" is not something you shall feel warm from. If anything matters its the winners reaction. And yet I much prefer to see that winner playing and enjoying the game.

Yes, like I said, it doesn't do much for me, but at least I feel that they're grateful enough for the chance to post something, rather than only thanking the gifter if they win. That's my personal view though. I know there are thank you scripts out there, but I don't really care, as I highly doubt anyone who is able to enter my giveaways uses them.

I find it particularly rude if someone enters a group/private giveaway without commenting.

"Thank you" scripts? Really? What for?!

That is very different from public. I too always post a comment in the group/private giveaways, however I usually dont in the public ones.

Personally, it irritates me that every comment thread on every giveaway is just a long list of "Thanks!".
I do not even read mine because of this fact.

Not when you stop making public giveaways ;) Also, there is a "thank you filter" userscript that hides comments like that.

I try to change the way I say thanks when I enter a giveaway and always read the description to see if there's some kind of topic. But if there's no description, what else are you gonna say besides "Thanks sir!"?

This. "Thanks" might not mean much, but lack of it makes me want to punch that asshole though the monitor. I always try to thank both on chat/mail and on giveaway if I can.

I honestly don't care if people say thank you. I mean, I'm sure people are grateful that I'm giving away a game, they don't have to actually tell me so for me to feel good about giving stuff away. That applies to everything, too.

it depends on what their intent for saying thank you is

I don't care about them at all. Generic "thanks" just annoy me because I'm more interested in people that have something interesting to say and the thanks spam just hides those good messages.

I love every single comment I get on a giveaway. Also I appreciate a nice short talk with every single one of my winners.

Once I got emotional because one of them wished me merry christmas like a month after he won. And I totally did not expect it.

The problem is some people like to get the "Thanks", some don't, so what do you do?

I've only made a few giveaways so far and really am not bother about not commenting on public giveaways. If they want to say "Thanks", it's not going to piss me off either. It's nice to get some kind of response on privates.

I will give out a few "Thanks" here and there, especially on privates, I kind of assume people have the filter installed, so if they don't want to see them then they don't. For public though, I might be entering 20 at once and unless I have something specific to say, then I generally won't, unless no one else has yet.

It's nice. But I appreciate it more when someone says also something more than just a simple "thank you".

I also appreciate when people thank you afterwards, after sending them a key or a gift. Everyone should do that. It's common courtesy.

It feels good when you send the winner an email and they actually respond back with a thank you.

I'm not too bothered about generic thank you's on the giveaway page, I prefer personalised messages, but it certainly irritates me when someone doesn't have the decency to thank you once you send a game to them.

I'm not too bothered by "thank yous" either way. It's always nice when people express their gratitude, but I won't lose my shit when someone doesn't feel like saying thanks. Honestly, the best thanks I ever get is when I check on a giveaway winner's profile and I see they've racked up a lot of time on the game I gave them.

I always feel a little guilty when I don't have the time to play a game I won, or when I won a game and get tired of it after 20 minutes.

It doesn't make me feel good when someone posts a quick thank you on my giveaways, but I am annoyed when someone wins the giveaway without having even taken the time to do that much.
Yes I do feel good when someone emails me to thank me for the giveaway.

The sheer number of people that don't bother to say thanks is the reason I haven't given anything away in months. Instead I end up with games sitting uselessly in my inventory. If people don't care enough about winning games to say thanks then it's hard to care enough to take the 2 minutes to set up a giveaway.

Far better than their never responding at all to msgs for days after winning a $40 game, the only hint of acknowledgment being their finally marking received a week later. Sometimes wish we could re-roll for that level of douchebaggary..

But the ones who are very grateful make up for it by making you forget the ungrateful.
