Downloading everywhere takes time =S, and in my opinion is more comfortable download from site like l4dmaps because is organized, I don't say workshop is bad, because for Gmod for example download from workshop is 100 times better than from garrysmod.org

Somerthing like this should have been implemented long ago..

I mean, all you had to do to download custom maps for HL2 was join a server with that map. L4D's custom map support always seemed lazy in compatison. Oh well, it's here now :)

Still, Left 4 Hats.

WTF? L4D2 has way more FPS than L4D for me. Both are 100 vanilla. No mods or addons.

I'd rather have L4D3. L4D2 is tired. I never liked the enormous, ridiculous, oversized console-guns in the HUD, either. Would much rather have a bit more "story" content, in the form of a new game(such as the series does it) than just some user-created trash.

But, Valve seems absolutely terrified of the number 3, so it'll probably never come out. Just like HL2:EP3, and HL3, and TF3, and pretty much every other game Valve has ever made that got as far as 2.

I wonder if Gabe just has some kind of weird phobia of the number three, like people who fear 13?

Then let's just call it Left 4 Dead: Global Offensive or something like that, were fine without numbers.

L4D or TF2 are not story-based games like HL3. They dont need... they should NOT have another (3rd) game.

I beg to differ. L4D very much has a story. It's just left to the player to piece it together, instead of having a narrative presented to you, a la HL.

If you didn't gather any story out of L4D, then you're doing it wrong. L4D1 takes place two weeks after the infection broke out in PA, and by reading the various safe room graffiti, and following the progress of the survivors, you can clearly piece together a story.

Same with L4D2. If there were no story at all, then why are the L4D1 survivors as far south as Georgia, when they started in Pennsylvania?

It's just not a story that's thrown at you, you have to pay attention to it.

That said, L4D very much DOES need a third game. The second was largely inferior to the first, both in terms of tone and in terms of console-itis. (Again, giant guns that look like silly toys because it's "cool" on a big TV as opposed to realistic ones on a computer monitor), and much weaker characters.

Frankly, I'm sick to death of Coach, Rochelle, Ellis, and Nick. Not a damn one of them likable. You could find many likable things about Louis, Zoey, Franics and especially Bill.

I'd rather see a new setting, a bit further along in terms of infection progress, and some new survivors and new special infected.

Finally, the Source engine is tired and old and shows it. I'd love to see Valve get off their butts and make a new engine for it, (which I believe Gabe once said there wouldn't be a new L4D until source was retired) than just see more games/content on the incredibly dated Source engine.

Which, for the record, I don't just mean graphics. There's a lot of things more modern engines can do that Source simply does not have the capability TO do. It's very versatile, sure, and it was amazing for it's time, but it's time is done. I mean, the engine came out in 2004, same time as idTech 4 (Doom 3). id has moved onto idTech 5 (Rage, Doom 4), and is currently working on idTech 6. Meanwhile, Gabe still parks his giant behind on his dinosaur of an engine, refusing to ever actually fund a new one. In terms of PC gaming advancements, and gaming advancements in general, 8 years is a lifetime. For example, Atari 2600 - 1977. NES - 1985. Just look at the difference 8 years of tech can make. Change with the times, or die with them.

Whew. Rant over.

tl;dr:

L4D has story, look for it. L4D1>L4D2, Source is too old, make a new one, then gimme L4D3.

L4D has story, but it is not story-based. L4D2 was the biggest mistake and huge backstab for l4d fans. Story can be tell in comics, but there is no need for next L4D game at least for another 3 years. I am fine with L4D2 with L4D1 cast, new weapons are kinda good, new specials are kinda horrible, but Im not going to play another almost-same-maybe-worse L4D.

Right, there's a LOT of things I disagree with. But I'm in no mood to pick apart your essay.

I always preferred L4D2 over L4D1. The weapons and environments were more varied, and the setting (down south) was well defined through the characters.

And lets face it, the L4D series don't have stories. Just levels where they make an escape at the end. You get pieces of information, but nothing that you can concretely form a story from.

Due to lack of a persistent rank in Left 4 Dead 2, we might be looking at a workshop similar to Skyrim, hopefully! :)
