"Deep Silver has announced that it has acquired the Homefront property from Crytek, including the recently-announced Homefront: The Revolution, which will be completed at its new "Dambuster Studios."

The source of Crytek's recently-announced new capital appears to have been revealed as Deep Silver, the proud new owner of all things Homefront. "We are thrilled to see another great IP joining the Deep Silver universe," Koch Media Group CE Dr. Klemens Kundratitz said in a statement. "We strongly believe in the potential of Homefront: The Revolution and trust in the new team to continue the path they have been walking in the last years."

The game will be finished by Deep Silver Dambuster, a new addition to Koch Media's studio lineup. Deep Silver declined to comment on whether it's actually a new studio or if Crytek UK has also been acquired and renamed, saying that it's still in the process of setting things up."

Things are not looking good at all for Crytek recently. Earlier in the months the director of the Homefront sequel resigned and so did a bunch of people, then Crytek assured people that even though they had financially problems in the past things were starting to look up, and now this.

Some sites are even reporting that Crytek just fired a bunch employees from their UK branch who were developing the game leading to rumors that Crytek UK might shut down. Crytek UK was also known as Free Radical before their purchase in 2009, known for the Timesplitter series.

I hate when people click on a topic just to post garbage. Should be worth a suspension imo.

So sad, they know how to push hardware to the limits and lead graphics evolution, current PC graphics and next-gen consoles are a direct result of that, remember when you just bought a new PC and people asked, it can run Crysis?

:(

They had great tech, but they were rubbish game makers.

Probably just going the same route as Unreal: stop developing games, and just focus on making money from supporting their game engine(s).

That's not necessarily a bad thing. Their strength is clearly in making engines, so focusing more on that and letting other companies make games can be good.

That studio is just poison. They're still only known for something they did 9 years ago.

Well they haven't really done much else, and Timesplitters is amazing.
Overall they only did about 6 games, 3 which were timesplitters.

The problem is that the only thing they've done since Timesplitters is make Haze and assist with other games. You don't need an entire studio for that. Maybe Homefront: The Revolution will become the new Battlefront III and just kill off studios, one by one.

But Crytek would be to blame for that since they're the ones in charge.
I'm sure Crytek UK/Free Radical would love to do more games but if they're not getting the approval then there's nothing more than can do.

Deep Silver acquires another THQ franchise.
Why did anyone even want Homefront though?

The idea of Homefront is potentially neat. Its just the execution that was botched, like so many great ideas.

I'll just remind everyone that the Darksiders IP was never sold and is now in limbo. Since then, Homefront has been purchased twice...

I don't get it.

I thought Nordic Games bought the Darksiders IP! That's why Darksiders 2 was in a Nordic games bundle, if I recall correctly.

Yup. Darksiders is with Nordic, and last I heard was that they're trying to put the team from Vigil games (the original devs) back together. Fun fact, most of that team was Crytek USA, which got disbanded in this same restructuring as the Homefront IP sale.

Tried Homefront on Onlive a while back, thought the multiplayer was sort of fun. Wouldn't mind a proper sequel, it think the game was underrated a little.

So 35+ DLC's?

Great.

Why is everyone so against Homefront though? It felt like a more refined better CoD to me...

I think it was pretty fun(Bit short), online was decent also and had a decent community(Not sure about now).

Guess if you paid full retail it was not a good value though...

Yah, it would have been a grand $20-$30 game. The story was awesome, it felt like one of the first games I played that I felt was dark and not the typical hollywood shooter type crap. Though it was very short and has no replay value for me, it was a good ride. As for the multiplayer, you are gonna have to launch it right around now to get into a near full server. There is virtually no community, maybe 5 guys recognize one another, there is the community. lol Everyone else is sorta just there.

Oversaturation of a market, did not really do anything different from pretty much any other game out there.

Really? I thought it was a nice take on the whole FPS genre personally...

Oversaturation feels more like what Battlefield, CoD, etc....does, at least this one had a twist.

Homefront was pretty fun. The single player was pretty short, but the multiplayer was fun. Kind of a mix of Battlefield and CoD.
