Hi guys
I have a friend who is coming from US to India next month I was thinking I could get a MSI GT62VR from there. Currently it is around $1800 there while the same would cost upwards of $3400 if I buy it here.
I have been thinking of building a desktop for myself for quite some time but I could not since the cost was not meeting my budget. Since the parts are costly here and especially with the monitor cost its too high.
I was always against getting laptop since they had 'M' version of the graphic card but with 10xx series its not case so performance against cost won't be so bad.
So what do you guys think is it a good buy?
Also anyone has ever got a laptop form US to India, If my friend (US citizen) gets it without box and stuff will customs etc be charged?

remove the box, install a few programs, create/save a few documents, so that if customs does open it up and inspects it, it doesn't feel new.
Mail the receipt so it's not physically on you, The receipt is a dead giveaway it's new.
But, take a picture of the receipt and keep it in your phone. that way, if they do conclude it's new and decide to charge you import tax, you can prove the value. (otherwise, they'll inflate the cost significantly, so the tax will be higher)

They can't charge anything if he says it's his posession.

Also "M" or no "M", a dekstop GPU will always be stronger than a laptop one. They didn't put the "M" to this years mobile GPU's but they still have lower clock rates.
My personal opinion is that I strongly suggest you to build a desktop. You can just order a monitor from Amazon, I bought a lot of monitors from Amazon US and had no trouble at all.

Are you from India?
What did your build cost you?
If I go with an equally powered desktop it will be updwards of ~$2000 I think

Where would you have to buy components from?

I'm not from India but you can buy some products globally from Amazon US.
Though I'm dealing with the same problem as you, everything is at least twice more expensive in my country than in USA. But I do believe an "equally powered" desktop would be a lot cheaper.

For example;
This is more than %30 stronger than that MSI laptop with a much better, bigger and 144hz monitor. And it costs ~1400$ so it's even cheaper.

Sadly this is the truth, but it will always be the case because laptops would need to be bigger to include better cooling.
