What are the "keys" people are asking for in the trading forums? Are they keys like you get when you purchase a game on Humble Bundle, or in-game keys?

CS:GO or TF2 keys (in-game items) that are sold on the steam market and cost about 2 dollars each, that's pretty much all I know about it as I'm not really into those games, but that's pretty much all you need to know about it actually.

CSGO/TF2 usually. Keys used to open chest drops in those games.

You can buy these keys on the market too (e.g. Chroma 2 Case Key).

Ah, ok... I used to play TF2 a long time ago, I'd forgotten there were keys in it.

I searched more, Valve are expiring the keys and removed them from the Dota 2 store. They are most likely to vanish for good in July 1st 2016.

Well, I'm not really following the Dota 2 news, but less than a year ago I've seen people still using them for trades. Probably there are only few left as you said, for collecting.

They expired on July 1st 2015. My mistake.

If it is any consolation, you are not the first to be confused by it as a starting trader, nor will be the last. It really doesn't help that a large portion of the trading is for Steam game keys (as in game activation codes) now, so it can totally mess up any description.
