I just got a mic+headphones combo, the Superlux 668B + a Zalman Mic. Cost me a bit over 40€, and is probably better than any headset in your price range.

That Corsair headset is indeed awesome. I haven't seen or heard any other headset under $90 as good as that one.

Alas, mine's broken because one of my friends dropped it pretty hard. (Happened more than once too)

Analog </3

save 10$ more and get this instead?

Idk, in my whole life building PCs I never built 1 that is static free using analog mics

I like my CoolerMaster Storm Sirus. True surround over virtual surround anytime for me. Consider true surround only if sound direction is very important to you. Virtual surround headphones will offer better quality as it only has one speaker per earcup instead of four smaller ones.

I like to know when there are enemies behind me :P

Can you enlighten me about that more? does virtual surround is in headsets only and true surround is real 5.1 or 7.1 speakers with reciever? what is the difference?

I'm planning to get a 7.1 headset but unsure if ill enjoy it as much as I think ill do. (though, real 7.1 speakers+reciever is not an option currently).

Most headsets are virtual 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound. Virtual means that the surround is created artificially by creating different tones in the sound to make you believe it comes from a different direction. Therefore, virtual 7.1 surround is just a 2.0 headset with a program to simulate surround sound. I've never tried it myself but I read that the sound direction isn't that great. As for True surround, they are mostly 5.1 because its hard to put 7.1 in a small earcup. True 5.1 headsets have 4 speakers per earcup. I own the CoolerMaster Storm Sirus and I can say the sound direction is very clear. I've been playing Serious Sam lately and can always tell where the ennemies are around me, especially those suicide bombers that scream aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh :P Options are pretty limited in the true surround headsets, they tend to be more expensive. If you don't have the 5.1 plugs for the CoolerMaster Storm Sirus you could consider buying it with the tactical mixing console, that is what I have and I love being able to set my headphones volume easily and they include a small sound card that turns the 5.1 plugs into a dual-USB plug.

Thank you very much. So, true surround sounds better. Do I need a specific sound card? Or plug? If for example the coolermaster isnt available in my country.

And if you familiar with the Galaxy SII, it has a 5.1 feature for music. Is it that virtual surround you mention right? It is better than 2.0 thats for sure. Really great. :)

Plantronics Gamecome 777 just awesome headset, great quality for both the mic and the earphones. Don't go for Razer since all the under 100 are absolute crap.

I noticed that I'm prone to headaches if I use headsets (probably because they push my glasses, I never fully investigated), so I'm using this instead: http://en-de.sennheiser.com/headset-headphone-pc-laptops-all-in-one-100

My Razer Carcharias is the most comfortable headset I've ever worn. Maybe the sound quality isn't the best (it's still pretty good though, and the mic is pretty good too) but it's the only headset I can wear for hours and feel no discomfort.

Get a Razer Tiamat 2.2 $99, I just got mine and I love them!

Reasons why?

  • They are big, durable and strong
  • Comfortable and Soft on your head
  • Mic can hide inside ear cup
  • Provides excellent sound quality (If you like listening to music with bass or gaming)
  • Been using them for about 2 months maybe? Still looks, feels and is brand new.
  • No problems with them yet.

I would definitely buy another one if this one breaks or gets old and they were really what I wanted when I couldn't decide between all those other headsets out there ;)

EDIT: forgot to add they can cancel out noise outside when worn over head.

If you are going to chose from those 3 go for the Steelseries Siberia V2, its overall better than the rest.
The 780 is fragile and has a bit of lower audio quality than the other 2. The corsair had some problems with the mic (3 of my friends own it and get some beeps, cuts etc... with the mic, but this only happens after 3-4months of "extreme" use by them)

I couldn't reccomend the Siberia V2's more, the sound quality is quite good, surprisingly good for music for a gaming headset, actually. For gaming, they're very good, I mean, almost all the pros use them, that's got to mean something :P. Also, they're very comfortable and durable. Only downsides are that the cable feels a bit cheap and the sound isolation is a bit lacking.

In the under $100 bucks range, primarily the higher end in that range...

Only the 1st 2 were actually 5.1/7.1 surround sound, the rest are all analog.

Heck even these Tt eSPORTS SHOCK SPIN are good. They are also 7.1.

This review quote may or may not be an accurate appraisal of the headphones' audio reproduction capabilities, but it made me laugh heartily:

"They sounded tinny, far away, and of the worst quality imaginable. Explosions sounded like a movie from the 1970's, unremastered and played back on a set of free airline headphones plugged into a device with a 24Kb/s bitrate."

Maybe, haven't kept up with their models to much, he might not need the isolation though so if Iwas him I would just look into different ones, not just Sennheiser of course, Koss, Audio Technica, Grado, etc....all make nice stuff that should be vastly superior to a gaming headset.

Yeah, I bought new Koss headphones a few weeks ago and they're great! I just had to get used to the low bass.

I have the DJ200's from Koss, they are wonderful for vocal heavy songs, not bad on everything else also but the mids are amazing.

I agree that those brands are good for audio purposes, but i am mainly searching a headset for gaming with a mic so thats why i probably dont look at Audio Technica, Koss, etc.

Clip on Mic for a couple dollars

You will get more worth for your money this way, its up to you though. I hated the sound on my decently expensive headset, got rid of it....forgot the model but it was over 60 dollars and sounded like junk...

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No, here is responses from a headphone forum.

Honestly as someone who knows about audio quality(I own way to many headphones), gaming headsets are scams....Also the Xonar DG will make many higher ohm headphones sound much better thanks to the built in amp.

Headphones to look into:

Audio Technica Ad700

Creative Aura Live(Super loved by the audio community)

Super good deal

Sony MDR-V6

Ultrasone HFI-450

Not even remotely close to the ones listed above. The CAL! and Koss cans are just amazing at their current prices.

They aren't the greatest, don't get me wrong Sennheiser makes nice stuff but thats mostly the more expensive ones usually(some of there cheaper portables are nice though, not really for computer use, to tiny, etc...), they are OK, but I would go for one of the ones I listed if you have the cash.
