Soo I got my Origin account hacked, and probably sold. I've noticed it when I saw I was level 21 on BF4 (when I left I was 20...). The guy wasn't smart enough to change password. Considering I didn't gave my account info to anyone I'm pretty much angry with Origin. GG. Now I've activated "Origin Guard".

so ...it was hacked and sold but you still have it and it's not sold?

edit: oh wait, is this another one of those elaborate puzzles?

I think it was sold, but the guy who bought/sold it didn't change the password...

Which means you dodged a bullet. Getting it back would be a hassle.

I strongly doubt it's Origin's fault. I think it much more likely that your password was compromised and then sold on the black market. Remember the problems EA has had with compromised security? I certainly hope you aren't still using that password (or anything similar to it) on any other accounts.

You're angry with Origin? How so? You don't have to give anyone your account details to be hacked. Your system must not be very secure or you logged into Origin from different computers.

I'm pretty sure it had nothing to do with Origin itself. You either left your account opened somewhere, someone saw you writing your password or you have something dangerous on your PC.

Happened to me a while ago. Got an email about the password being changed so I reset the password.

I also had never given out account information and rarely use my origin account.

Happened to me about 3 weeks ago too, got the email about my password being changed as well...I never use Origin 99.9% of the time...luckily I don't think the guy did much, I only had the Origin bundle and NFS Shift... :P

Managed to quickly reset my password through email and enabled login verification after that

You forgot that it's also the only platform with Battlefield 4 and Titanfall. ;) Now that's some delicious loot them hackers are going to want.

You shouldn't be angry with Origin, but with yourself ONLY.
You either use crap password, or got scammed. Check those URLs before logging in!

(or stop downloading porn which is actually undercover keyloggers)

Sir, you are wrong. Have you ever considered reading about how the vast majority of passwords get leaked? Start by checking your e-mail address here: https://haveibeenpwned.com/

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No, that has nothing to do. Use different passwords on each site, and NO LEAK will ever compromise you. All my e-mails (gmail and live) are clean, and my nick is also. Not a coincidence, no sir.

And P.S. sorry for answering late.

I'm not sure you understanded my post. The major reason why someone gets pwned is because he or she uses the same password over different sites. If the pwd gots leaked in one site, they can be applied over other ones.

I hate to be "that girl" as well, but I agree with this guy. I hate how people throw around the term "hacked" nowadays. You either got phished or keylogged, that's how it is.

If someone could really hack, I think they'd be out there stealing millions of dollars from banks or the stock market instead of stealing someones Origin account. :P I know that I would if I could actually truly hack! (and get away with it)

And @tiagocesar - Although I'm not going to click on that link (:P), I have seen sites like that before, that I have went to through reputable sources (not saying that you aren't reputable, but I don't know you) and even though it says that a password or two here and there have been "possibly" leaked though a mass leak that happened with that certain company, I've never had a problem with those accounts.

Disclaimer: All of this is just my opinion, so please don't get ass-mad over it, as I do not have any negative intentions or feelings when posting this. I'm sorry that he went through what he did, and glad that he had a stupid enough person try to take his account that they didn't change the password fast enough for him to be locked out of it!

The link I posted is for a service where you put your e-mail address and it says if you are on the list of reported leakings administered by the website. No big deal, google it and access it through the link there, I assure you it's safe

You don't jump into high class hacking the day you're born, a lot of black hats hack some stupid stuff, a 12 years old kid can hack(/crack, whatever) an origin account simply because he wants to play a game like titanfall for example. Or to resell it for a scrap of bitcoins. Or mostly just for the fun of it.

Just saying that yeah probably a stupid password or phishing, but the stupidity of the hack isn't sufficient to refute a hack per se.

This might illustrate what i mean.

Some one had hacked and bought mine, and changed my profile pic to something saying his name and that he's russian and bought it, and basically was just hoping to "share" the account. As it would be nothing for him to start changing my account information I think, so that I might lose it and my games, I changed my password.

Sad to hear that, man. I was unable to activate "Origin Guard", because the emails took like 5 hours to arrive, and the code expires.

Their current system has only reduced the number of customers, not the piracy.

Mine was hacked a while back, only digital account that ever was taken from me, although I got it back. Hopefully they didn't have another breach or something.

Someone changed mine back then to iLoveGreenday97 or something like that, lol. But I still had the email so I just reset it, and changed the language back from Russian. Weirdest part was I didn't even have any owned games on my account at that time, not sure why anyone bothered to sell it or whatever, but I got a good laugh!

Happened to me, with both Origin and Steam. Some cheeky gits hijacked both accounts, (and I never entered my details anywhere but at home and never on anything but the programs), and played on them for years. Got a crapload of achievements for CS, though, which is nice as I've never actually played it myself. Unfortunately, because I couldn't remember all the games on my Origin account, they would only give me back the games that I COULD remember.....so not only was my account hijacked, I lost some games in the process, too.

Never happened to me. Because I use an extremely safe password. It has some uppercase letters, numbers, symbols, Russian letters, Chinese letters, and Daedric letters.

Remember thought that passwords can be bypassed by phishing, keylogging, or if we talk about say a wifi connection WPS ( that moment you obtain your friends cyrillic/quechua/runic/quenya 1000 characters long WPA2 password in less than 10 seconds ). Or because the website gets hacked. Passwords only go so far.

Never knew there was such a thing as Origin Guard. And I do use some pretty complicated passwords since they auto-login on my desktop anyway.

Requesting password change is NOTHING. They DO request a password change, but unless they click the link in your e-mail, it's useless. E-mail has the link with the SECRET TOKEN which allows you to change the password, and since they don't have it, you're safe.
