"Before the Nintendo DS remake, Final Fantasy III was the least accessible game in the series since it was only available for Famicom in Japan. Now Luneth, the silvered haired Final Fantasy III protagonist is everywhere. Square Enix brought Final Fantasy III to DS, iOS ), Android, PSP, and Ouya.

Next, Final Fantasy III is coming to PC. A rating by Germany’s USK board leaked the news.

While Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII already had PC ports, Final Fantasy III for PC is a new version of the game. That’s interesting to see and perhaps Square Enix is considering to bring even more Final Fantasy games to PC."

Good news for jRPG and turn-based fans alike.
Odds it'll release on Steam is very likely, but probably not for some time.

Hell yes (NOT the Bad iOS version. That was NOT an upgrade, that was a downgrade.)

I bought Final Fantasy III for SNES (same game as FFVI for PS1/GBA) in a Garage Sale for only $10.
It was the 1st Final Fantasy game I played and probably the best $10 i spent on a game.

(It was in very good condition in the box with the instruction booklet in very good condition.)

I make sure to have the game on my PSP SNES Emulator so I can play it whenever I wanted.

I am glad it is coming to steam. Hope they do the same for the other FF games.

That being said however.. FF3 is not as good as most of the other FF games. Better than 12 and 13 at least. Just compared to the other older games it is not as good. Would have been much happier had it been FF4,5 or 6.

FF7 and 8 are already on steam ( have them both :D ) Perhaps they will release more.. seems like they are slowly doing that. Maybe even see FF9, and FF10 on steam as well. ( Kind of doubt that for those two. )

Oh and.. if I remember correctly its not exactly a "New" version of FF3. It is the remade version they did for the DS. I could be wrong though since I do not follow the handheld games all that closely and know they have remade most of the older FF games on the handhelds. ( and in 3d like what they have shown for this version of FF3 )

"I am glad it is coming to steam. Hope they do the same for the other FF games."
If V and VI are based on the android versions I hope not, they look like some cheap RPG Maker type crap.

"FF3 is not as good as most of the other FF games. Better than 12"
But FF12 is honestly one of the best in the series along in V and IX.

"FF9, and FF10 on steam as well. ( Kind of doubt that for those two. )"
Yeah it's very doubtful that Square would want to port games that are over 10 years old.

IX is in the works as are the rest, I said it a while ago. Sadly, 9 is still in lit due to some contract issues (something about the original graphics wanting to be used) From my understanding they went with III due to this issue. . .they want to bring all the FF games to steam seeing as porting is easy and as said in a meeting and in the investor's portfolio the steam launches are making money. . . Now if only Capcom would bring monster hunter to steam. . .

the 2014 investors portfolio is this year. IX was planned for a March release when they put out VIII but sadly there is a dispute over the high rez graphics which has become even more of an issue now that Square is getting spammed by Sony (they dumped all their shares). IX had been an issue for a long time seeing as Square lowered the rez for the PSX. Square is in trouble so they have stated they will port most of their games to steam they opened a large team devoted to this this year. . . this is all new stuff, not old. The port for IX has been done for some time. I was one of the first people Playing Dark Souls back in 10 Feb, 2012 testing the port. It was in the Q4 where the mentioned they would be bringing more interest to the PC market, I linked that portfolio in the old discussion. I did figure by March the IX would be out but we will have to get III IV and V first I think. all 3DS (or PSP, I forgot) ports I believe. Never forget it isn't the porting that is the issue it is getting all the artists to sign on we are talking about Japanese contracts, not American here, they did business differently back in the PSX days.

Square is a near dead company and is doing everything this year to stay alive. We'll see if they last the end of the year.

look up the investor's report I've linked the 2013 year end like Last time, not a guy who knows a guy. I never said that as a stockholder I get my portfolio mailed to me. Sony selling all it's shares was big news and Valve's joint effort to save them should be up soon. Valve is getting Square to do a left for dead game and taking up the team to port the PC's. It's in the news man. Square is going down they are porting everything they can to PC.

Links again.
the 2014 year end should be up soon. . . will link that on July 1st ish. . . they say what's happened with Pc division, though sony did end that contract this year.
Only thing different was they are doing the 3DS ports first as I said when they did 8.

Edit: the left 4 dead joint stuff was announced like 2 days ago.

UGH read Yosuke Matsuda's comments and quit being a regular tool. They never said anything about 3 but here it is. Square said in the report they have opened a team solely for porting for PC and PC MMO's in the portfolio.

Edit: on that note it didn't say VIII or VII or III. . . just FF ports

no one has 100% proof. PC games would be all over it. I'm reminding that there is hope and reminding people that they are working on it. As said in the 2013 year end and 2012 they have a team working on the ports. I was addressing "Yeah it's very doubtful that Square would want to port games that are over 10 years old." They ported 7 and 8, and are working on the ports from 3-6 and 9. No word on ten. When they launch who knows. The facts are there is a team working on them and that valve and Square have teamed up. those are the only 100%. Like with the new reporthere there is nothing on the PC market. They don't say. Anyone who has proof will get their ass sued so chill out. Write me off as making up bullshit or read between the lines like someone with a brain. They are releasing ports on Steam in a quarterly fashion as I've said before. Write me off as crazy if you want, take it with a ton of salt( which is smart) but I'm not giving more then I can, but I can feed hope when there is more than doubt.

"no one has 100% proof."
No one has proof at all.

"They ported 7 and 8,"
No they didn't Eidos did who were not apart apart of Square at the time did. Those ports came out in the late 90s to early 2000, all Squeenix did was update them.

"valve and Square have teamed up"
Please tell us more about this "team up" and why they're both working on ports and not an exclusive RPG for Steam?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

They aren't working on a RPG. You can read about the teamup here.

Anyway the thing that the report said was that they were diving into the digital HD market to create cross ports between platforms. The FFVII and FF VIII steam releases are not pure 2000 ports. There are two separate FFVII and VIII releases I had the old boxed PC ports the Steam releases are much smoother and have a different port system. Eidos' ports were nearly unplayable. These are all part of an effort to save Square-Enix which is a quickly sinking ship.

Who knows though, as I said before they did just shut down a large portion of their PC division due to Sony backing out and dumping their shares this month. With Valve stepping in though it does seem they will, more likely make the payments to the artists and use the IX port that they've been sitting on for over 6 years now. Don't forget Eidos shut down the IX port due to the failings of the VII and VIII ports back when PC gaming was only for diehards.

Yosuke Matsuda's goals from 2013 to 2014 was to find the NA PC market's demands and as such as I've been saying is we want ports for the old FF games and as said in many posts before they are using their team to bring titles to steam, as seen. I don't know why it's so hard for you two to grasp that this is something that is happening like right now. They just aren't duping the games right away but using a quarterly launch system. which means a launch every 4-5 months. How do you figure this is made up stuff?

The only thing you are doing is being a naysayer because of it? I uno. . . I said 4 in JAnuary they were putting another FF port in March, I was off by two months wait till Nov and see what FF will be launched then. . . and you'll know I have some info I'm not saying. . . to cover may own ass. Just using what is in google safely and smartly.

Edit: I do work in B.C. Canada doing PR for Indie game devs and hear lots of stuff on who's doing what where. Vancouver does hold lots of who's who meetings this is the last I'll say on the matter. I was two months off and had the wrong FF port. but sill in the planned releases. Anything more could get me into some hot water so keep on thinking that Square isn't porting their games to steam in a quarterly fashion if you want. I really don't care anymore I've linked all I can and addressed all I can. Also I was wrong there have been 3 separate FF VII ports now. not just 2.

"They aren't working on a RPG. You can read about the teamup here."
What does this have to do with what you said earlier about Square Enix and Valve working on porting Final Fantasy games?

" The FFVII and FF VIII steam releases are not pure 2000 ports."
The newly released PC versions are based on the Eidos ports, but they've been updated.

" I said before they did just shut down a large portion of their PC division due to Sony backing out and dumping their shares this month."
You have no proof of this.

"With Valve stepping in though it does seem they will, more likely make the payments to the artists and use the IX port that they've been sitting on for over 6 years now."
Proof

"don't know why it's so hard for you two to grasp that this is something that is happening like right now."
You're linking articles that don't even back up what you're saying, they're not even in the same subject.

"I said 4 in JAnuary they were putting another FF port in March"
No, you said in March they would be releasing Final Fantasy IX, you did not bring any up any other Final Fantasy titles, not only that but you kept saying it will be an HD remake.

Selling shares yes I do here

I did say I was wrong on what port and I did say they were bring many FF titles to steam.

I never said Valve was working with sqaure to develop ports I said seeing as Valve working with Square. Meaning Valve will be filling in the gap that Sony has left. With Sony finished dumping their shares it means that Square will be stepping up their game with Steam launches due to the fact they need to increase sales by 25% by March 2015 or the company will be near THQ levels. The links I gave hold only their plans for the PC market. IE expanding their investments in it. Quare doesn't talk about their Ports to PC for good reason the market shows best sales when announced a few weeks before no sooner no later. Not an HD remake but using the graphics that were there before they were dumbed down for the PSX. . . it's not secret that they lowered the resolution before launch.

I have admitted I was wrong on IX being out but I assumed it was the logical one they'd launch.
The only games unknown to be if there are going to be ports to Steam are the PS2 games. I do know that the DS ports and PSX ports are doable and have been alluded to in meetings and in the investor's portfolio. . . people like me who invest money into companies are smart enough to read between the lines and read the market.

I uno why I'm wasting my time with this. . . FFS all you've done is used my words and demanded proof even though all I'll say is there is no online proof only what google has to offer and I'm not going more past the point of allusion and the ability to say I gave nothing but speculation. I am, however giving much more than being an ass and using other people's words against them.

I can say that it was know that there was a IX port worked on, the PSX was dumbed down graphically and steam has been getting ports in a 4-5 month basis now all within Yosuke Matsuda's designed proposal to get Square out of the red, which has been working. But we'll see how well III sells, if it doesn't who knows right?

IF III fails then they could disband all together. In the market there are no 100%'s only speculation and plans. Sadly you ask more than I can give. All I can say is have hope and look at what I've linked and look at what is going on in the markets to give ground to what I've said. I'm not putting my ass on the line for people who have nothing better to do then use quotes against other users. . . but it is satisfying to know that even though I've giving a bit of hope to your wishes using helpful hints using what is out there to the public you are still raging. . . the only thing that makes me upset is I know for a fact my favorite XII isn't in the works. . . yet. . . which means no steam achievement for getting the Mythril Sword.

Still all of this is speculation, nothing more, only using what has been said in meetings and looking at the reports mailed out. You can see them all for yourself. You'll see everything there. All I'm doing is denying the doubt and pointing out what Square has been saying for the past year: they are getting into the PC and IOS market with their games. All those DS ports are from Squares port division. . . sooo yeah. Sadly It's fun to make you rage by using reality. . .but I have a flight to catch. Lots of work to do.

Anyway, you have what you have. . . more hope then doubt given. Only thing stopping more is if Steam sales go flat. . . but thus far Sqaure is in the top 10 for both the FFVII and FFVIII ports so only an idiot would think a struggling company isn't gonna bring more.

"UGH read Yosuke Matsuda's comments"
That's exactly what I did and it says nothing about their games in development, just sales and plans to increase sales which are exactly the point of these annual reports.

"They never said anything about 3 but here it is"
There doesn't need to be. Do you know what's the purpose of these annual reports? It's not to announce new games, it's to inform their shareholders what they are up to, what has happened, and what they plan to do, it's not for people who play games.

Not only that but Final Fantasy 3 is an android port. Smartphone games do not take a year to port, most likely takes a few months tops.

"Square said in the report they have opened a team solely for porting for PC and PC MMO"
I read this thing several times, they said nothing about it.

So what does this have to do with Final Fantasy IX? Completely nothing. You have once again failed to prove that Final Fantasy IX for the PC is being developed, and instead linked things that are unrelated to the subject you brought up.

The first time you brought up how Final Fantasy was getting a PC port/remake since Square years ago announced Final Fantasay VII - IX remakes on the Playstation 2 and that The 25th anniversary collectors of the Final Fantasy series which brought Final Fantasy IX for the Playstation 1 was someone proof of this.

I'm sorry but you honestly need to stop with this non-sense. I'm really starting to think you're googling Square Enix PC and just pick a random article and link it to your post despite it not proving anything.
