Hello everyone!

I know I haven't been too active in this awesome community but here I am now, asking for a helping hand. I am building my 1st pc! Why? Because I can!
I am not a tech specialist nor I am a smart person but I did my best trying to figure out what parts I want for my new pc (I have a limit amount of money I can use though) and all I'm hoping is for some suggestions in case I chose something that's not actually efficient.
I don't want to be a great gamer or anything. I just want to play with my brother some games on decent settings.

Here are the parts I chose:
Mother board: Asus H81-GAMER, Socket 1150
CPU: Intel® Core™ i5-4460, 3.2GHz, Haswell, 6MB, Socket 1150, Box
GPU: Asus NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti OC, 2048MB, GDDR5, 128bit, HDMI, 2x DVI, VGA
PSU: Corsair VS Series CP-9020097-EU, 550 W, PFC Activ, ATX 2.31, 12 cm fan
RAM: Kingston HyperX Savage 4GB, DDR3, 1600MHz, CL9, 1.5V, XMP
Hard Disk: SSHD Seagate Hibrid 1TB, 7200rpm, 64MB, SATA 3
DVD Writer: Asus DRW-24F1MT, 24x, SATA, Black, Bulk
Case: Cougar Volant Black, Mid Tower

Here's a thank you token

That little RAM will hurt you a lot, especially if you plan on playing video games. Get another of those stick to upgrade to 8 GB as soon as you have money.
The PSU at least has active PFC… that's about all the good that can be said about a Corsair VS, sadly. If you stay on one GPU, it won't be too problematic at least, so there is nothing to really worry about now. :)

Oh, I forgot to put a 2x in front of RAM. A friend told my exactly the same thing: "8GB or gtfo!"

Haha, I have 16GB and wish I had 32GB. I could upgrade but I don't want to spend the money right now. I run my PC very differently to a lot of people though... I usually have A LOT of stuff open at the same time.

Build doesn't look too bad. Stock cooler?

I'm currently unemployed. Spending that much would kill my liver. Hahahaha!

haha thanks to you I just found out they released an updated version of my CPU cooler... Been watching videos on it for the last 10 minutes trying to work out if it will be worth updating to it at any point (so far I'm thinking no unless I need more clearance for RAM which shouldn't be any time soon)

DDR3 RAM is at its cheapest right now, and will only get more expensive as manufacturers will move to DDR4 as soon as AMD's DDR4 compatible procesors come out.

Buy DDR3 RAM now sell it for profit later, xD

haha I think I'll be fine. I'll just stick with 16GB for now. I predict I can live on it for another 2 maybe even 3 years, and then I'll switch up to 32GB DDR4.

First thing you gotta do is write your budget and location.

About this build, the CPU is way stronger than the 750Ti, the PSU is mediocre and I'd prefer a separate ssd and hdd solution so that you can control what's where.

I am from Romania. The parts here are extremely expensive. I have a budget of 2800 RON witch is 675$. The CPU is 600 RON alone (~ 145$). Its very difficult to actually keep tracking on all the stuff. The GPU is affordable as it got pretty good reviews from my friends (615 RON - 150$ as in comparison with a MSI nVIDIA GeForce GTX 950 845 RON - 205$)

At that pricepoint a FX6300 system with a R7 360, or ideally a R9 370 sounds like the best bang for your buck.
Don't get me wrong, the i5 is a bit better, but with the money you'll save you could get a 270/370, and that makes your system more balanced.
You can find 120GB SSDs for less than 70€ (avoid Kingston V300) and dump your OS and important programs in there.
A regular 1TB HDD should be priced around 50€.
If you can't afford an SSD yet, get a normal drive and when you buy it the cloning process takes about 10min so it's not an issue.
Change that crappy psu, here are some good alternatives: XFX ProSeries, XFX TS, EVGA 500B, Thermaltake Hamburg/Berlin.

Getting 2nd hand parts is also a great idea.
Though it would help if you had a friend that knows some stuff go with you, so he could run some tests.

As price is limited have you considered buying 2nd hand parts? it's not something I've ever done but it was brought to my attention about a month ago. That GPU for example is $189 from the place I go to for PC parts (the cheapest store around me) however after just 2 minutes of looking I've found it available second hand for $100. Not sure what it's like where you are. If you do consider second hand you will want to consider making sure the part works before paying for it. Ask the seller if they have a PC they can put it in to show it working or take your own if they don't.

I looked at a this store (you said you're from Romania, so a quick Google search sent me there). I think this should be even better for your budget if you want new parts.

Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz CPU
ASRock H97 Pro4 Motherboard
ASUS GeForce GTX 960 STRIX DirectCU OC 4GB GPU
Seagate Desktop HDD 1TB 7200RPM
Zalman Z3 Plus Case
Super Flower SF-650P14HE, 650W 80+ Bronze PSU

Good luck building!

EDIT: I forgot RAM. This makes my build a bit over budget, but in my opinion, it should be worth it.

With a bodget its not a bad idea to look at AMD Procesors, they dont really compare to Intel's performance wise, as they can lose some FPS, but they also can be more that half cheaper that their Intel's counterparts

Heres a buyers guide released just today, might help to pick some parts.

Out of your build i would say that your weakest component would be the most important for gaming, the graphics card D:, at least a GTX760 will secure comfortably on 1080p gamming, or an AMD 280 if you can find one.

good luck, don't be scared to ask anything, thats how we all learn :D

Try this lovely website, I'm dreaming of building my own PC in the next 3-5 years:
http://www.logicalincrements.com/ + select Romania as your country

As others suggest, on a budget you might aim for an AMD rig, it's more bang for the buck.

You might get:

  • R7 370 (way better than 750 ti and you'll be thankful in the long run if you like AAA games, you can run most games with this baby)
  • FX 6300 (the motherboard I suggest needs AMD cpu)
  • 212 EVO cooler or go with the stock fans only
  • ASUS M5A97 (AM3+ socket)
  • 8 Gb of ram
  • 150 Gb Crucial BX100 SSD (you will be thankful for the speed times of your PC if you install your OS here)
  • 1 Tb Seagate Barracuda HDD
  • Seasonic 520W PSU (you will need at leas 415W with this setting)
  • Case: as you wish, maybe Fractal Core 3000 mid tower, it looks nice, comes with 3 fans and is cheap

Total suggested:

About $3,035 lei, I really suggest you to throw in 220 for the SSD and buy the 171 lei CPU cooler later when you get more money, you could also buy the DVD writer later unless you absolutely need it but it costs about 85 lei right?

I actually like this one. I think I will leave the hybrid HDD for the one you have suggested. Thanks!

Yeah this build will run games smoother than the one you posted, you can always buy the CPU cooler later and do some overclocking if you wish to, that way you won't go too much out of budget.

But if your budget is super tight then you will need to buy a cheaper GPU, but GPUs should be looked as long time investments, the one I suggested will run all the coming games at least at 1080p30 for the next 3-5 years.

Hybrid HDD are not effective, it is better to buy an ordinary HDD and purchase 128-256Gb SSD for system when you will have enough money. And I would advise to spend more and buy GTX960-970 to play latest games on high-ultra.

That's not more, that's almost doubling his budget.
