It's not. GOG IS the basket. Without it, you'll only be keeping DRM free installers, just the same as pirates out there on Internet.
Might as well pirate it from the beginning.
That's what make Steam and GOG accounts valuable. They're the basket, the one differentiating legit and pirates.

Whether it's on Steam or GOG, you need those accounts to even download your games. It's not different.
So I prefer my games to be on Steam - I have 2000 + games already and don't need more logins to download games.

I bought a russian GOG key from shady site last time because GMG was out of stock. Sadly it was not redeemable outside of russia. Lesson learned.
