I needed to stop in and let you know how wonderful Mass Effect is.

It had been sitting in my backlog for years with my friends saying I should go in and play it, but I just shirked it off. Decided to finally boot it up last year and have loved every second of it! It's an absolutely amazing game series (currently my 2nd favorite of all time) and even though some people complain about the ending, I thought it fit perfectly.

Try out the 1st one, and if you're liking the story, pick up the 2nd (Bioware went from testing out what the game could be like to really showing us what it could do).

They're absolutely amazing what? I didn't cry at the end?... Me?! No. That doesn't sound like me at all!

I'd like to add that the first one doesn't hold up quite as good as I would have liked it to. The story is still awesome, but the gameplay pales in comparison to ME2 and ME3. If you can't get in to the first one (I hope that you can, though!) Then please don't let that turn you off from trying the second.

i actually disagree. I feel that ME2 and ME3 are not as good as the first one because they feel like corridor shooters to me.

I didn't feel that way at all. I only ever played on insane difficulty, and I felt more in control in 2 and 3 than I did in 1. ME1 occasionally felt arbitrarily difficult and out of my hands. The sequels are much more responsive and much more polished. The planet exploration in ME1 was also tedious and boring. While it wasn't really necessary, it wasn't kind to completionists.

i think i played on hard or a similar level of dificulty and I played most games with soldier and vanguard maybe that was why i feel diferent. I felt that ME2 and ME3 are just sections where just a wave of enemies ; there was little to no strategy it was essentially shoot and use powers when they weren't on cooldown; some of the tougher enemies might require depleting their shield/armour using abilities but even those it was mostly use all powers then shoot.
On ME1 i felt there was some need to controll my teamates and more need for crowd control, come encounters were a bit hard and i had to get a bit creative to overcome them. I also really liked the exploration on the macro i felt i was discovering new worlds, in ME2 instead we get a the survey minigame which was really really grindy for my tastes.
Another thing i don't like in ME2/3 is the lack of RPG mechanics, most classes got streamlined and the weapons became unique without stats

ME1 had the best story IMHO ME2 was the best game and ME3 was the bes shooter/MP was good but on the whole ME2 was the best of the 3 games that are out now. The first time I played Mass effect I was blown away it's a great game on par with Dragon Age Origins back in the days before EA totally killed Bioware by making them rush out games in under 2 years Dev cycles when they were 3 year cycles the games were so much better.

As for me I have 93 games on my back log and my goal is to not buy any games until i clear it...sadly some free games keep coming out most VN's and they just add to my backlog...but if i stop watching anime maybe i can do it.

The complaint for the ending is for mainly 2 reasons if i'm not mistaken.

  1. before the game launched someone from bioware said the game would not end with a choice, instead the ending you would get would change depending on your actions which did not happen
  2. The ending uses a deus ex machina, making your voyage and decisions kinda meaningless
Alongside those 2 problems the ending had quite a few plot holes in it.
Those 2 reasons made bioware release a free DLC which extended the ending which i don't remember if it corrected the plot holes.

Context is everything, the reason the internet got mad at mass effect 3 is mostly bioware or EA not giving enough dev time to mass effect; there was even a theory to explain the last game because of how "weak" it is when compared with the 2 previous games.

I played a Vanguard through the trilogy when I first played on 360 and found it rather disappointing for the first game but that class at least really developed with each game. I'm not sure about the other classes but I'm sure they improved as well.

What is your first favorite of all time?

The Kingdom Hearts series. When I played it the first time I was young and just loved seeing all of the familiar characters. When I picked it up again years later I noticed how amazingly well put together the gameplay, artstyle, and story was. What is a kids game on the surface is actually telling the story of a generation that has to repair the damage done by a world-ripping war that ended up killing so many people that no one knew who to put the pieces of what was left back together.

Just the tutorial in KH2 is a great story. I'm going to put this in a spoiler because some people might want to play it for themselves, but I ruin nothing :)
It opens with a completely different character that you have no ties to. He goes about his normal life, hanging out with his friends, enjoying the last week of his summer vacation. He realizes that some strange things are happening in his town and he has been having strange dreams as well but doesn't really pay much attention to them... until they all start pointing to him. People's possessions are stolen, people are found hurt, inexplicable and impossible things are happening in his once normal town but they all have some connection to him and he is unable to explain why. Then, his mind hits a snag. Time stops, monsters appear, and they threaten him and his friends (but his friends can't move). When he finally is able to push some back, time resumes, but his friends have no recollection of the monsters and think something might be wrong with their friend. He starts to wonder if he's going crazy and if everything, including the dreams, have been part of him going crazy. It takes him a while, but he finds the place where he thinks all of the monsters are coming from and follows them there. It's at this point that he realizes why everything has been so strange in his world: the world he lived in had been artificially created as a cage for him. When he escapes into reality, none of his friends recognize him. They've never seen him before. His reality had been false. His friendships had never existed. His mind continues to unravel when the monsters from before find him. Despite his friends not recognizing him, he fights to protect them. After several waves of monsters, a thought dawns on him. The monsters are there for him. The only way to keep everyone safe is for the monsters to have nothing to look for. He needs to get rid of their target. Himself. And so he decides to end his own life to keep everyone around him safe.

And that is just the tutorial.

But yes, it's only available for either PS2 (original games) or PS3 (HD remixes). You can get them quite easily using PCSX2, but a controller is highly suggested.

I have over 2,000 games in my backlog, so I won't list them...
Here's an idea though, based on my own profile: http://steamleft.com/span/76561198043727907

All the backlog calculator sites are misleading though, since a lot of games only have hours because it takes 2+ for cards to drop, and there's no way to waive my refund privileges if I wanted to choose to do so, in exchange for faster card drops, which is silly to me... .

There are very few non-casual games I play through only once. Those are usually the bad ones. I have been putting off a second play through for SupCom and FA for over two years now; it's just a question of when.
As for MP, I never play it. This is why I gradually stopped playing RTS: it is difficult to find one where they created a decent AI for the SP audience and didn't just build a game for MP with some excuse of a campaign on top. coughBlizzardcough

also dont even bother with Doorways: Holy Mountains of Flesh... i got it because it was an argentinian game and that was interesting to me but it is a meh at best,,,

oh and broken sword 3 and 4 arent needed.... they are the worse on the series anyway... i never could manage to get broken sword 4 to work in any pc

I have managed to suffer through the first two games/three episodes of Doorways, so when it finally gets finished (at this rate that won't be even this year), I want to know if the story even has something of an end (since so far there isn't even any arcing plot).

I know BS5 wants to be a sequel of BS1/2, but since I'm also doing reviews on everything I play, I'd hate to have 1, 2, and 5 only. I played BS3 long ago, once, and remember it wasn't good and heard the fourth one was even worse, but, well… if I managed to play Still Life 2 until the end, I can survive pretty much any bad point 'n' click.
