I understand that some people want only those that contributed something to the site should be able to enter certain giveaways. What I do not understand is why do some people make it as high as possible. I'll give an example. If you have a contributor value of $100, I understand wanting others to have given at least that same about. However, if you go for $200, by your own rule, you could not enter your own giveaway. (I know you can never enter your own giveaways, so don't bring that part up.) If you did not give that much, then what is the reason behind requiring others to do so?

I just want to giveaway for ppl that have helped me (like the 3 ninja giveaway for forum ppl today), and for those who contribute giving away, because of them i won some games and felt some hapiness because it and I wanted to return to the site and those kind of ppl some games of my own.

Still made like 2 public ones to give the opportunity since i was also a 0$ leecher, but I see too many cases of regifting and other things around to feel safe about it.

Well I promised an answer and there it goes. I'm choosing this topic, mainly because I hope you rebate me and we have a nice chat. First of all I must admit I didn't read the whole topic. I tried to do it but it's full of nosense. You, although having discredited yourself in some replies by your manners, seems to be the kind of person I like discussing with.

So here are my ideas.

  • On the point of only wealthy people or those who look for better chances. I strongly disagree here, mainly based on my case. I do not want to make this sound as a self praise but, I live in a quite short budget (I'm a student my income mostly depends on part time jobs I can get, summer jobs and my parent's charity, which for many reasons that don't matter now is not much) and I couldn't care less about contributor value. I gift games because I like gifting things, I like people enjoying themselves thanks to me I must admit that I also do it because I don't like to "leech" if you want to call it that way. I like to give back when I receive.

  • Contributor level has many flaws. Agreed. Many of my giveaways are private/group ones, mostly the first. You may want to know why because that way I make sure that either people I like, people I share things with or people which showed interest in the matter are going to enter. You may think this is not fair. Well it certainly isn't BUT, two things:

-First of all Videogames are not a basic right, so people are not ENTITLED nor DESERVE playing this. I only play the games I can afford (Or I am gifted) if I can't get a game it's as simple as hell I WON'T PLAY IT

-Secondly generosity by definition should be selfless but here we encounter a problem. You would agree with me that generous persons (as nice ones too for example) are more likable, thus have greater chances (In every single aspect of life) to get good things. So we run into a contradiction. And as it's impossible to tell if someone gives games away out of generosity or for scalating tiers, I like to think they do it on the first basis.

By now I have run out of ideas, I had more to say but I've forgotten. I'm eager to hear your answer.

It has been awhile since our previous elitism thread. Couple personal views on topic.

  • Deserve is pretty strong word to be used by either side of this argument. We are winning games (or game related content) that is entertainment products. Nobody requires them for living and thus not need games.
  • Group option is not a real option. Site already has plenty of private groups that focus on high contributors but it is pretty much near impossible to gather all of the under single group. Contribution limit allows this to be done much easier.
  • People tend to somehow associate two different things with high contribution. High contribution does not equate to a person capable of shitting gold, so to speak. It might indicate that he/she is wealthy but each person is unique and they have their own backgrounds and reasons.
  • Along with the previous point, enjoying giving games does not mean that person at hand does not enjoy playing and e.g. winning games to play.

Public side has lots of games available constantly and usually with quite low contribution limit or no limit at all. Most of them are bundle etc. games for a reason. Removing group, private or contributor giveaways would not magically start producing Skyrims all over the site, and even if it would, your chances would still be very low as everyone would pour into them.

I don't mind a $40 or slightly contrib value for giveaways. It means the SG users that only contributed bundle keys will be left out, and the ones that give slightly more back to the community are eligible.
As for the ~$1000 giveaways, there are certain people, not many, that have $1000+ contrib values. Until I reach that point, I'll mind my own business.

I don't understand why some people has dissatisfaction for contributor requirements or a kind of things.
Even if you cannot enter giveaways by requirements, this never makes what you have money trouble.
