Can I legitimately scam someone who is trying to scam me?

Like, would I get any kind of ban on SteamRep if the scammer tries to report me?

I'm serious here, I'm tired of scammers, and I want some kind of payback.

And this one... well, he's pretty dumb.

Depends on what you are trying to do :)

If you'd like a trade ban on your account, then go for it.

Nah, wouldn't want that, of course.

I say, the best way to get payback, is to troll them as much as you can. Waste their time, post invalid keys & then make them wait a little longer. Hell, make a game of it, then once you have enough evidence for a report, submit it & watch his account to see if it gets hit with a ban. That's payback right there.

According to SteamRep's policy, there's no difference between scamming a legit trader and scamming a scammer.

Alright, I'll guess I'll pass.

But really, reporting them on SteamRep does nothing at all, I reported one 1 month ago, and it's still marked as Ready for Review.

It takes awhile but they do eventually get around to the reports. The reports I've made took over a month before there was any action. Reporting is still good because that report will show up in searches so someone can still read it and decide whether or not someone is trustworthy.

As much as a sweet revenge it would be its still not an excuse to scam someone. It's like saying you can just go and kill someone because he also killed someone.

He's the one tryin to scam him, so it would be self-defense.

Self-defense will be to report him on steamrep

So killing someone who tries to kill you when you can easily sort it our without killing him is self defense?

I agree with Necroblight, if a 3 year old tries to kill you with a plastic spoon then killing them is not self-defence.

Death Penalty is issued and done by the government (not mentioning it isn't allowed in most countries) ant not by the victim. Just like Trade Ban.

You become a dumb scammer if you ask this kind of question here.. scamming is scamming, regardless of the reason you're doing it for.

Well legitimately I don't think you can but morally I'd say he deserves it.
But I wouldn't risk my account for this.

Scamming a scammer doesn't make you less of a scammer. Just report the scammer and leave him alone.

By doing so only shows your immaturity. Why would you stoop down to their level? As Jonex said, becoming the problem doesn't fix it. Don't be stupid, just report and move along.

nah you can scam everyone, steam support doesn't do anything about it. well that happens alot of times, if you're trading in like game keys or non tradeable copies they just say: You've comfirmed the trading fenster alot of times

I say go for it, scammers deserve it. Create a new account to scam them if you're worried about getting bad rep. But yeah, they deserve everything they get.

If you scam someone, and get reported, you'll probably be marked as a scammer on SteamRep.

Oh, and if we get a report that you scammed someone, you'll be permanently suspended here too.
