I'm usually pretty good at figuring these things out but chrome has me stumped.

EVERY time I go to the site I have to sign on - and not just enter my steam id and password, which would be annoying but tolerable up to a point, but I have to do the whole freakin' "ooo, you haven't signed in on this computer in a while, you better go get this code from your email and enter it first" thing, which is more than I'm willing to put up with.

Firefox seems to remember me ok, so I can use it, I like firefox, I just like chrome better but I have been all over the chrome settings, which there just aren't very many unless I'm missing something, and cannot find how to tell it to keep the steamgifts cookie or whatever it is that will remember me the next time I load it.

So - two questions - 1. how the hell do I stay signed in with chrome... (and feel free to OVER-explain it, exactly what to select, etc)
and / or 2. complete this sequence - a burned out toaster is better than IE, FireFox is better than a burned out toaster, Chrome is better than Firefox, -------

Thankyees ☺

EDIT - this may become moot and no longer be an issue - I've downloaded and installed Opera and, yeah.... kinda diggin' it
so thanks for those suggestions

  1. Did you delete the cookies from Chrome? Maybe you have an option activated that deletes the cookies everytime.

  2. a burned out toaster is better than IE, FireFox is better than a burned out toaster, Chrome is better than Firefox, Opera is the best!

I'd agree with 1. You probably have your cookies set to delete every time you exit the browser.

If you have my Chrome (I don't know which one it is), click the three bars by the bookmarking star. Click Settings, then Advanced Settings, go to Privacy and click Content Settings and scroll to where it talks about your cookies. Click the radio button by "Allow local data to be set", which is the recommended.

If you have it set as that an you're still having issues, then possibly look into the cookies that are stored and make exceptions for the steamgifts and steam cookies.

bingo - I have the same version and found the cookie settings - it is set to "allow to be set" and digging deeper there are some steamgifts cookies and local storage - will try deleting them and re-setting, maybe my cookies are just stale ☺

Opinions, I will try too:

Opera is best for causual users, Chrome is best for fast opening, browsing and closing. Firefox is da best for experienced users with dozens of open tabs.

in my world, yes... not throwing any rocks at firefox, i like it but i find chrome cleaner and way more efficient, except for the not saving login thing

Thanks for not throwing rocks. I've tried Chrome, don't know why I didn't liked it.

Its simplicity, perhaps? Sounds daft but that's why I don't like it. I actually quite appreciate Firefox's big clunky UI on a desktop, prefer Chrome for laptops/netbooks though.

As much as I like firefox, I had to make the switch to chrome because FF just keeps crashing on me. I still find FF easier to use but thats prob because I've been using it for so long.

1a. dunno, I mostly use Firefox.

1b. But it's probably: Wrench > Settings > Under the Hood > Privacy section > Content Settings > radio (circle) button ON: "Allow local data to be set (recommended)", checkboxes OFF: "Block third-party cookies and site data" and "Clear cookies and other site and plug-in data when I close my browser"

1c. But you can also try leaving the "Clear cookies..." checkbox ON and go to > Manage Exceptions > and type [*.]steamgifts.com, set Allow, and press Enter plus [*.]steampowered.com Allow and [*.]steamcommunity.com Allow.

-2. a burned-out toaster is better than IE, Firefox is better than a burned-out toaster, Chrome is better than Firefox, unless it's not or I just don't really have a preference... except IE... I hate IE.

-3. there's also a possibility that some automated program on your comp other than Chrome/Firefox is clearing up your cookies.

will give it a try - thanks, that's the kind of response I was hoping for... ☺

that's what's missing - I don't see "under the hood" anymore (use to have that but now I can't find it)

I use chrome 24/7, and I am signed in 24/7, don't know what your problem is.
I only have to log in after password time out which seems to be a week and a half or two weeks.

Disable steam guard alright, unless you are getting hacked/phished too easy :P
And you can't possibly say Chrome is better than Firefox... I use both every day and I like Firefox better...

ain't about to disable SteamGuard for anything... that's like being annoyed having to unlock the door every time I come home and resolving it by taking the door off the hinges (ok, not quite the same but... no, steamguard will stay on)

and I would eventually get tired of just entering the id / password every time too so that would only be a temp fix

I got my steam guard disabled since it's no use after all, if you're stupid enough to get RATed or you have too stupid friends then I guess you can have it enabled...

I know for a fact that Chrome never has an issue that isn't solvable and if it did in fact break, sorry you were tinkering.

I suggest that in Chrome, you use Chrome's user profile features , click far top-left.
