Hello Steamgifters! It is that time again - adventure time! Join a great adventure with incredible amount of treasures!

Over 80 treasures are featured in the current Game!

All of us like playing games, and all of us like winning games. So, how about playing a game and winning games while playing?

  • Introduction

Game of sWords is a text RPG Adventure where you can explore dungeons (or other locations), complete quests, solve puzzles, find useful items, avoid deadly traps and fight dangerous monsters while searching for treasures (private SteamGifts giveaways links) on your way and trying to reach the end to get access to a huge amount of private giveaways! Each Game (of sWords) usually has a unique scenario and a limited number of winners, so the chances will always be great.

All giveaways have no restrictions, so anyone who finds them can join them!

Lots and lots of giveaways have been contributed by the community members, and I would like to say a big Thank You to everyone who made a contribution! :)

Here is the topic of the previous Game of sWords.

Here is the topic of the first Game of sWords.

  • Important notes about the Game

In the Game, you will have Energy Points and Health Points.
Most of the actions in the Game require Energy Points. Energy can be replenished using items, which you can find everywhere, thus it is important that you check everything around you!

Energy will also be replenished over time. Normally, you will receive 1 Energy Point every 15 minutes, and that time can be reduced with special artifacts that can be found in Game.
Note, that the Energy won't be replenishing during the battles (you can only restore it with potions)!

If you lose all your Health Points, you will also lose all the energy you had plus you will have to wait for up to 6 hours to be resurrected. (Basic Resurrection happens every 6 hours from the time the Game started - 16:00 GMT). The energy can not be replenished while you are dead!

Note: If you have problems navigating through the map, you can switch to Simplified Navigation at the bottom right corner.

I highly recommend to read this article for important Strategy Tips and general understanding of the Game :)

Also, make sure to read the FAQ, it has the answers to most questions you might have about the Game ;)

  • What's new in the current Game of sWords?

Current Game is a true RPG adventure with 3 classes, experience system and levels, multiple skills, wide variety of enemies with random encounters and huge amount of weapons, artifacts and items. There is 10 times more of everything than in the previous Game! The map is now twice as big as the one in The Secret Castle (previous Game), so you have to be ready for a long and dangerous journey! Make smart decisions, develop your character your way and lead him to success!

Current Winners limits: Barbarians:19, Mages:17, Thieves:24.

Winners get access to all giveaways available in the Game! (80+)

Everyone who finishes the Game after the limit is reached gets 1 random treasure as a consolation prize!

All giveaways end on the 1st of March!

  • Time to start the Adventure!

EVERYONE is invited to play the Game and search for treasures in the adventure! :)

The only requirement is that your Steam account should be more than 90 days old.

This is unbelievably fun at this point!!
I just killed a 5k HP troll, fighting it with 0 energy the whole time and started the fight with just a few HP. I actually wanted to die at first. Needless to say that the Troll died by JUST auto-half-dmg-attacks and instead of regenerating which it supposedly does, it actually HEALED ME UP hahaha, its blood was sooo refreshing. This is SO PRICELESS. I think this is an uber combo... I'd like to hear similar stories if anyone has. :P

But WAIT:
It gets even better. It dropped giant slayer (700+dmg melee) and I did NOT take it despite the fact that it's by far more dmging than anything I have. Fact is, my magic would go to 9 and I would lose the resurrect/abuse combos. I couldn't care less in fact. I prefer resurrects. :P

The bonus Magic (even negative) wouldn't affect the Scroll levels that you can use :p

Well i didnt know that so I preferred not to risk it! Besides, the reason I finished fast was mainly due to a combination management of teleports/resurrect scrolls and losing as few time as possible on levers etc. Luckily I never had to pull a lever twice! Also explosive vials fireballs & regen scrolls were all super useful!

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You could have found out pretty quickly by attempting to use the standard Regeneration scrolls before you hit level 5 :P
I'm surprised to hear that explosive vials and fireball scrolls were useful, I only tried them out a little bit but found my standard attack doing almost the same amount of damage. I guess they are strong if you haven't found good weapons yet?

But how could I know that, since as a wizard you max magic almost instantly? By lvl 3 I already had 10 in magic. :O It's different for you since you couldn't raise magic much early on.

Explosive Vials and fireballs were very strong as long as you used them against weak to fire enemies, AND you had points in fire mastery. Also don't forget that they ALWAYS hit AND you don't miss your turn. That's amazing and makes the difference in keeping you alive. I did have a high fire mastery in this game of course. Maxed it by the end at 15. So yeah they were pretty great and helped immensely to finish the game faster on some hard fights or boss fights. Did you see how fast I finished from lvl 3? In less than a day. Some wizards stayed at the top25 for 2-3 days at least before finishing.

First I used a fireball scroll, doing 15000 dmg, then just 3 more hits(4-5 attacks, the others were miss) with my staff of zeus for over 4000 each hit.

Congratulations! Your stats don't prove you're a mage, I had similar stats as a Thief when I finished and since you're level 10 you can legitimately have any combination of stats :P but we'll take your word for it (and the rankings)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, you can have whatever stat distribution at lvl 10. I was mainly referring to the high Magic/Magic Defence and little strength and defence in return. Which is typical for mage classes in most games. ;)

Are you telling me you had no strength as a thief? Didn't you use physical attack weapons?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

My Strength stat was constantly lagging behind (I think I ended the game at 5) I found myself dealing more than enough damage with the weapons I had and focused on increasing accuracy and agility instead. Might've just been lucky though :) (and used magic weapons as my secondary skill if my ranged weapon didn't do enough damage).

Oh well, I just fu♥♥♥d up my game.
I decide to fight the orc inside the troll cave, died. Can't take his quest anymore, turned invisible to get past him and pull the lever, but I forgot to bring ANOTHER SCROLL TO GO BACK. Now I'm stuck, hitting between 0-50 every 6 hours.
Game over for me :D

Just look at THIS :

"You've sent a fireball towards One-Eyed Dragon and dealt 10646 damage!" haha. xD (I had another one but I opted to do some attacks afterwards) By the way I expected the dragon to be healed by fire but I did try it for the LOLz. You could easily make the dragon with 100k HP and fire immunity btw. Just saying. He would be a worthy last foe then. (BUT he would still die. ^^ )

You have got the Dragon's treasures and are now known as Radagast the Brown the Dragon Slayer!
The Game has been completed by 20 other adventurers already.
623 other adventurers are still looking for treasures.
You had to make 452 steps and
312 checks to win this Game.
You defeated 78 enemies.
You died 8 times.
Thanks for playing!

This was so so much fun. xD I did almost all my progress since yesterday. Fastest climb ever without any energy items. :O
From lvl3 to the end to be exact. :O This felt fast. Some combos discovered were so great. Some items imbalanced. (but still fun) Dragon unbelievably easy. (killed with a 10k+ fireball, and autoattacks and with 0 energy at last attacks but didn't even matter any more since I was a vampire and everything in the game healed me even while tired).
Unfortunately didn't land a critical to see the dmg but the normal hits were around 1700 to the dragon at lvl9 with Poseidon staff, I was very low on magic even in the end with just 11, but did it matter? No, cause being a vampire made everything look like fresh meat, even the dragon.. xD

PS: After the first 3 deaths I had on day 1 , and the 18 resurrection hours, I remember being near the end of the leaderboard at lvl 1 with just 24 XP on lvl1. I can't believe how hardcore the game seemed then. And how fast everything changed. All subsequent deaths were even on purpose...

PS2 : Sorry to Ethlesis in the end ! I must have leeched 16++ EP from her right before the dragon. :OO !! Sorry !

PS3 : Of course the dragon gave me the whole level up from 9 to 10. :P I somehow thought I could end this at lvl 7-8 that everything was super easy (even Dendroid dead at lvl6-7 with a trick), but alas I got too much xp without wanting it in the end. No running from any monster and just one weapon. And energy even useless in fights. :P

@Server, based on the above abuse of killing spree while tired (0 energy) I'd introduce a +10-20% (-2 or -4 to accuracy) miss chance while tired (0 energy) on future versions. It makes sense and would prevent me from abusing it so much to finish almost the whole thing in 1 day. I was literally killing everything with 0 energy since lvl 6-7 no kidding. :P

Is that all?
You've sent a fireball towards One-Eyed Dragon and dealt 15087 damage!
First action, considering how much dmg that did, I didn't use the other one I had left. :P

Comment has been collapsed.

Hahaha, well I was lower level. 9. Not 10. Max fire mastery.
It gets huge bonuses per level up of the character as it seems. :P
The fun part was killing the dendroid super early with fire/resurrection.
Proves that the game can actually be finished at lvl 7-8 if wanted to.

Anyway it seems to me like an inside joke the fact that the dragon would die from fire. :P ffs. He never managed to hurt me with any of its abilities... so sad.xD

Dang, got back from school and apparently i died from someone's Bloodlust hit LOL. Didn't want to wait 5 hour so i just sucked it up and drank my phoenix blood. All went well, i guess? Ended up dead again a few steps later but yeah! The end feels close! I think :D.
Is bloodlust able to actually kill you though? That WAS kind of an unpleasing suprise for when i got back home.. Sometimes when I'm trying to use mine it warns me "there is no one healthy enough to use bloodlust" so i figured that was just a way to stop you from killing other players.

Yup, they can kill :p
HP can't be stolen from dead players and idle players on which someone else has already used this ability, since they become "immune" to it until they make a step or check. So when no one can be affected by your ability at current spot, that message shows up.

Comment has been collapsed.

Depends. :P You will not want to use magic against magic based enemies. And magic will be better against armored opponents. xD Of course I preferred magic above everything since a Wizard... So just pick the best option you have at each time. Calculate total dmg etc.

For the record, the worse enemy for the wizard was by far the Genie types of enemies. Flyers, and magic based. Almost unnaffected by magic. Some times even fire might be the way to go. :O xD

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Ok so does every enemy have a type? And is the type obvious? Like the ghoul I fought must be magic type since it can't be the other 2

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well I have no answer for the ghoul. I had too much trouble with ghouls on lvl 1 as a wizard. So I have no idea.
Maybe it's as you say a magic based one. Maybe not. Who knows. :P
In any case no monsters "chase" you there is no such thing in this game. If you flee from battle, the monster actually disappears and you can retry visiting that grid without fear of finding the monster again.

So about the enemy type question? Any idea?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

In future versions, if @Server finds the time, he may introduce a Beastiary I guess, though that's entirely up to him.
But to be honest I'd prefer it the hardcore way. Finding it yourself through trial and error. Isn't that the best thing about an rpg or crawler?
To discover things by yourself such as enemy weaknesses, powerful combos etc? Why have everything served on a plate? :P

Permalink

Totally agree with you. Besides, simple logical thinking can help to figure out most enemies' strengths and weaknesses.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Glad we are on the same page on this. :) Also another idea regarding that, that I want to suggest !!

How about introducing "unidentified" scrolls and potions in the next version of the game? Many roguelike crawlers have this feature. Let me expand on it a bit. The concept would be that all potions/scrolls found, would be called "unknown scroll/potion". The first time you would drink or use a potion/scroll either on yourself or on your enemies, the item would be permanently identified by it's shown effect. From that moment, every potion/scroll of the same kind would be identified for the rest of the game ! This would require some trial and error experimentation in the early game, but carefully to avoid accidents ! (such as drinking an explosive vial muhaha, or regenerating/healing an enemy haha, or throw a fireball to yourself. ^^)
Wouldn't that be pure and simple fun? :) Anyway I'd love it. :P

PS: The above feature is already the case with potions in the casual/roguelite shattered planet game, that I am giving away as a GA treasure. Read my review on it if you access the GA people. xD

Permalink

Yup, this is a great suggestion, thank you :) I remember you posted it in the previous Game's thread as well. Will surely think of implementing it ;)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

And another one, less important suggestion.
Since there was quite an abuse with the phoenix vials/resurrection scroll suicides, maybe you should think about nerfing them at least a bit, something like:

phoenix vials: fixed to 25-30% of max hp/ep instead of 50%.
resurrection scrolls: fixed to 60-75% of max hp/ep instead of 100%

It's up to you. :)

1 day after restarting the game and i feel for those non contributors. It feels like a pay to win game with all those extra stats helps a lot in lvl 1. The base accuracy need to be buffed or reduce the avoidance rate of lower level monster and tier increase of avoidance of higher level monsters. I would also suggest 3 small hp pots at the start of the game. After restart i faced a number of bugs. I did not get any 5 points to add for level 1, but since it was added after the game started, it could be that it was added manually. The other was my last death make me resurrect immediately with 4hp left and back to the space i was before i move to the square with the monster. I died again after I move another square because I was bleeding and my resurrection time is 3hr 30 mins. I realised after my restart, all my death has different resurrection time. 4hrs, 6hrs, 3+ hrs.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

  • The points are not given after restart on purpose since it is considered a "hardcore" mode.
  • Resurrection happens at fixed times, it is not individual for everyone. The time will always be up to 6 hours.
  • As for 4hp, that might be a bug, but it would be very difficult to track it down without more detailed info (what actions preceeded it), so I would be thankful for it ;) That actually looks like you just ran away from the enemy.

I forgot haha. I cant recall if I tried to run once in the middle of the fight but i remember once I was in single digit hp and I used big hp and big sp pots but i was bleeding so I just kept attacking until I died. But next thing i know it move me to the previous box and with 4hp. Both my pots are gone too. If it is just me i think it is my own problem somehow.

Comment has been collapsed.

Nice I didn't know you implemented that idea of mine. :) It's really a great way to keep everyone playing till the end of the event ! xD

However for next game of swords, maybe it's time to introduce more rules/exceptions such as a bit higher level reqs on "part" of the giveaways etc. All the events in this site do that. Rewards could be split into different levels etc. Think about it at least. Also it does seem a bit overkill for the winners to be able to enter in every single GA (imo). What about the sword points/coins? :O

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I generally disagree. I don't mind moving the barrier of entry up to maybe level 1 or 2 at most, but any higher than that and the event would be too exclusive. Having any specific giveaways with a higher level would mess up the randomized treasure hunting and also punish the people who win the game but are too low level to fully benefit from it, potentially keeping many people from playing in the first place. And once the rules start loosening up it might even lead to those infamous SGTools checks or whatever (maybe if they only check for rule violations that would be reasonable).
The current setting with a capped number of top winners + sporadic chances for remaining players should ensure a sweet spot of entries around the ~<50 mark which already gives very good odds to entrants and keep things equal for everyone.
And honestly, if you spend enough effort to participate in this game and uncover a few giveaways, I'd say you deserve to be able to enter even if you're level 0. But as I said, level 1 or 2 could be considered, just nothing higher than that.

Yes don't misunderstand me, I was mainly suggesting this for "some" lvl 1 and lvl 2, no more indeed. Like 1/2 of the GAs to be for lvl 0, 1/4 for lvl 1 and 1/4 for lvl 2. Something like that anyway. There would be rewards for everyone of course!!
Imagine that this could even help with raising the number of winners. When you have more than 600 players it is always a good idea to find ways to split rewards in order to get more winners and make more people feel special. It's the best way to advertise your game even more. Think about it. As for the sgtools, I don't know indeed, maybe only for violators like you said. I generally agree with your post. :)

Comment has been collapsed.

I still think its not fair for all the winners. If split the rewards, there is nothing special about the treasures after all, I mean it'll exactly like normal giveaways on SG. The system right now encourage all users join the game, that why I really like GosW at first time I read the rules and everything about it (ಥ﹏ಥ)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Of course there is. Even getting the GA link for 40 (50%) or even less different GAs is of course special. :P Why would you think that it wouldn't be special?
I always felt (from 2nd game too) that it is kinda unfair that we always entered ALL the GAs (the winners, including me both of the times). You might think why would I say that since I'm winning? Well, I've participated in various events in this site, and I found out that it's best to find ways to make more people get rewards, instead of giving all the rewards to a minority. Better split them to get more numbers of people satisfied. That's my main logic, it's a greater good in some ways and promotes sharing spirit too, in the end of the day. You can only accomplish that by splitting stuff to raise the overall numbers of winning people. Even if the chance to win may indeed drop a bit. Maybe it's just me that thinks that way though...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

So you can choose don't enter all of them ヽ( ͝° ͜ʖ͡°)ノ its your choice, the winners have the right too access all the treasure and it's just a chance to win, not win it instantly. Imagine if you can only enter few of them, and lose all. Sometimes while playing I was thinking: damn better rage quit, but wait, if I pass this hard time and finish the game, I can access all the giveaway, worth it, definitely worth it! Then I continue playing. The fair rewards help to keep players play the game until the end too, that's the thing every creators want. But I have to admit I really enjoy GosW and sometimes forget all about the prizes, SErVER51 made it so well and successfully.
Edit: just saw you update your post. I said its not fair because this is a rewards for gamers, by winning a game, it is not a competition of the level users, I like it. Spending their time and effort, they won and have the right access all prizes, its the different compare with all level stuff, sgtool, blacklist everywhere on this site.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well of course I won't enter all. :P And I don't entirely agree with your first point and I'll tell you why. The most important stuff here is to have fun with the game. Not to win something necessarily. Ragequit? For such an enjoyable game? I think you are missing the point of how enjoyable the game that is offered to us for free is, if you just look at the GAs and expect to win one or more, every single time. However you did mention that it is so enjoyable that we are actually forgetting the prizes. And that's exactly my point. It is so true. So it wouldn't really matter if I had access to less GAs than all. That's what I'm saying. :P

@Server has done once again an amazing fun experience regardless, that's the truth. GAs matter too little at this point. It may have some balancing class issues, but that was expected, the classes were just introduced after all. There's plenty of time to balance things in future games. And I'm sure this event will be getting more people every single time.

I'm a dungeon crawler and dnd fan since the early 90s man, what can I say? I love this genre of games regardless. Especially when done well. Just to give you an example of my madness with these games, I finished the whole legend of grimrock game 100% achievements and actually literally drew the whole map of each dungeon level (around 10 pretty huge dungeon levels) with pencil and paper, on grid milimeter. Hardcore mode. I've still kept those pages of hard earning work. Each and every space grid, drewn with many notes and everything. It took months. That should tell you something.

No exceptions will be introduced (well, besides obvious like cheaters and rules breakers). Everyone is free to play, enjoy the Game and get the most of it.

Swords Coins will be used in the future in the sWords Club (contributor's club) to participate in special events or get special artifacts for next Games.

Bumping for having had an amazing experience and time as a Vampire Wizard. (vampire's cowl)
Feasting on trolls and other powerful creatures has never been so tasty, fun and enjoyable. (Yummy!!)
Thanks for the unlimited fun offered. xD Though a thanks and the few contributions offered, is really too little for this experience. :P

I think I might have encountered a bug that really screwed me, I tried to run away, it said I succeeded and immediately after that said I was dead. Lost a ton of life and EPs and time I have to waste waiting.

You most likely forgot or didn't notice that your enemy poisoned/scratched you, and died because of that.

No, I was fine, the messages were one after the other and I had plenty of health.

Aaaaand it did it again. And now I have to wait 6 hours because I don't have that potion.

What enemy were you fighting? Did you do anything unusual during the fight? Maybe noticed some condition that could have caused it? I could surely use some more detailed information since testing millions of variants to figure out what causes this bug is a "little" time consuming.

It was a wild orc. I didn't fight, I ran away immediately after seeing his HP and it worked, on the first try, not a scratch on me. And then instadead. The second time was just experimenting to see if it happens again. The result was a "success" I guess lol.

I've noticed, but I'm so far behind at this point, I was barely reaching level 3 because I've had trouble finding energy potions or figuring out opponents and what weapons to use against them. I'm still not sure what to use half the time.

Dont find it anywhere :/

Don't worry there's plenty of ways to recover health.
Healing potions + regeneration scrolls (requires 5 magic though) + barbarian life steal + healing when resurrecting (phoenix vial too).

There are also some broken artifacts such as the life-stealing Vampire's cowl, though that can be found only in late-game, and probably requires some good luck too. :P

There is no starting hp recovery over time. But some artifacts do have a hp recovery on them, those are probably only accessible later in the game.

It's funny but I was also hoping at many times after the middle of the game, to get killed by some Barbarian.

Well... I've tried not to die too much and it was stupid :< I could finish the game much earlier if i let myself die once in a while and use pheonix blood/resurrection scroll. I've realized that truth near the end. Yes. And why did i gave that root thingy to the orc T_T ? WHY!? YES?

Judging from your winning screenshot, you indeed had amazing ending stats for a wizard. Weapon too.
It is entirely random after all and you did collect equipment on lvl 9 and lvl 10 obviously. (that explains my lack of endgame equipment actually)
I only managed to get the normal defense and fire mastery up to the max 15, since I didn't really find almost anything in the game that granted magic/magic defense or accuracy. But at least I got some points in the much-needed Agility. However in the end of the day, the "Vampire's Cowl" I found was more powerful than any game of sword items or stats and made the whole game look like a travesty. :P I could heal up feasting on any and all monsters/bosses with just simple autoattacks. (and without any energy haha). xD I only needed energy potions to move and check, that's all.

Not really :P? They did 0 damage for me for some reason. And fireball also 0 - had 20 fire thingy and 14 magic points :< Sad.

Fire damage makes sense... dragon's breathe fire and all of that so it wouldn't do any dmg. The explosive vials killed it in 2 rounds for me. The second vial was even overkill since he didn't have much health left after the first one

All this time and only ONE barbarian made it. (!!!) Barbarians seriously need help to make their lives easier. (!!)

I was thinking that their main problem as a class, is that they can't put many points early in the game, in the much needed agility and accuracy. Imagine that those 2 stats are in fact "the most important in combat" due to how mechanics work at this point in the game, so in the end of the day and for the majority of the game, a thief will always be a "better barbarian" than any Barbarian. :P It sounds funny doesn't it? However it's the sad truth. xD Haha.

The agility/accuracy mechanics-thing and how important these both stats are for combat, should really be re-thinked/revamped in order to balance the progression of all classes imo. It's actually hard to do it, there's no easy way, but necessary for balancing the game. Maybe each class needs some extra initial stat points, "in specific predefined stats" instead of unused stats that can't be used where it matters. Or at the very least allow stat distribution for a max of "your level +1" instead of "up to your level" to somehow alleviate that early level problem with agi/acc. Strength and defense on an early barbarian does not help enough to make him survive. He actually does need at least a low agi/acc boost. And pretty much the same is true for the early caster-missing wizard. Somehow the combat capabilities of all classes should be made more "equal".

EDIT: Another Idea:
A barbarian based on lore, is reckless, always attacking mindlessly, enraged, paying no attention to defense. So I thought maybe change his base stats to "Accuracy and strength" instead of strength/defense. Defense is actually bad for a main stat and does not help him advance fast in the game like the thief. Even so, something will have to be done with the wizard at the same time, to balance things up (magic defense is as useful as barbarian's defense for any class so it's not really a wizard trait) though Wizard is indeed much better balanced. (well after lvl 2 all seemed kinda ok, only had some trouble with EP replenishment) And to prevent people from getting their super stats maxed super fast if you'd go this route, such as accuracy/agility/magic/str, I suggest a max of 3 points to be distributed on base stats on level up, while the other 2 points "must" be put in other skills. No more. This should make progression more smooth for all, and not allow for an asap 10 agi or 10 acc overkill situation.

Sorry for wall of text.
These are all simply "ideas" of course that I leave out here, we are just discussing the matter. Ultimately its your game @Server, not mine. xD ^.^
