Besides Batman, I haven't ever seen a DC story that wasn't relatively light-hearted, other than Blackest Night, which is a huge exception.

Though some Marvel heroes seem to be dark for the sake of being dark, which is bad characterization.

I've noticed that both brands tend to run tamer stories than many independent comics, likely due to their mass appeal (mainstream).

I just wonder if they will make the movies based on the fall and the death of Thor and rise of his Son. But I don't think they will since Thor loses his power and the ability to use the hammer in the most shameful way.

Marvel. More interesting characters IMO. Spider-Man and the X-Men were always better than Superman and Batman as far as I'm concerned.

DC because Batman. Also, not being a comic reader, my experience is limited to other media. I think DC's animated series/movies are much better than Marvel's. I watched the heck out of Justice League and Batman The Animated Series as a kid but I really didn't like the Spiderman or X-Men cartoon. DC Animated Universe movies have all been killer as well. As for live action movies, well Marvel has the lead by a country mile, but then I loved the Batman and Robin live action movie, so what do I know?

From my experience and my taste Marvel has the better comic books, while DC comics has the better cartoon shows. Seriously nothing can beat Batman: The animated series.

DC. By far. Marvel needs to get their crap together. Marvel NOW was a big flop with me. While the New 52 was a great move by DC.

Laff you should have an era option - marvel ruled the 60s when DC was becoming stagnant and was a breath of fresh air. Marvel edged the 70s with deep topics (eg rework of x-men), but DC caught up with edgier batman stories etc. 80s was pretty much even and for me DC has edged ever since with more mature options. Having said that I'm enjoying the marvel movie options more than the DC ones so far ;-)
