i see... was not aware of that... but it was not like everyone was doing it, some wise people were quite aware of the fact it would reduce their chances of winning. =/ now its like slowly all of the steam gamers will enter the site.(bit of exaggeration, but still..)

how does that make it obsolete? it costs points to make invitations. if they want to spend their points on invitations then let them. how many people do you think use all their points to spam invitations out of all the people on SG? at least before, you needed an invitation. now anyone who wants to is free to join and enter a hundred giveaways before making their first 'bitch bitch bitch' thread.

Invites allowed exponential growth of the site anyways. If 1 person sent out 6 invites through a site, and then each of the people they invited invited more people, then you would see a rapid growth. The site was already at a population of 50,000 members and the growth was still speeding up rather than slowing down. Invites were obsolete because whenever the big sales came up (or when people submitted non-legit keys), some people would have more points than they could actually spend on giveaways they wanted (I know there was a point where I was getting over 150 points a day) and so they would just start spamming invites so that the points weren't wasted. Then when the community was larger, there were more giveaways and therefore more points. This meant that more invites could be made. I think you see where this is going.
While the increased population is certainly unfortunate for people's prospects of winning, the only way that this problem could have ever been avoided was if they just completely closed off the site to new members (note that I'm not suggesting that they should have done this).
