This.
For me, I'm a casual gamer who just plays for fun, so either way is fine for me
I love Contra, the old Super Mario Bros (no, no duck hunt, that f-ing dog), some games that i can't even remember their names now. But, the new main stream games work fine with me too
What is your opinion?

^ 1/2 of this. I'm getting older and getting more casual player. I will not try to beat Doom on "Nightmare" or X-Com on "Superhuman" difficulties.
But i'm nostalgic. I like old games more than modern. I like TTD, X-Com 1-3, Fallout 1 and 2, HoM&M 2 and 3 (It's PC titles, but sometimes i'm turning on NES or Sega emulator). And many, many more good old games. And sometimes i play it again (or playing some modern games based on it or mods). Replayability is high. But i will not try to beat Batman, CoD series or GTA4 twice. It's one-time entertainment.
So, mostly i prefer old-school gaming. But it's so hardcore...

I hate new games, that's why I spent over $600 getting a NES and SNES with a lot of games and an old CRT TV.

I love a lot of games on the NES, SNES, GBA, DS, PS2 and PC. I play old PC games and new PC games. I do not play casual games very often. Games aren't fun unless they're challenging.

Example:
SUPER MEAT BOY!

It's good to see someone who enjoys a challenge in games. There's far too many people who want to have their hand held through the entire game. I personally blame a large part of Lost Planet 2's "failure" on the fact that it had a VERY steep learning curve. You figured out the game right away or you died.

I play virtually every game style that exists and don't really have any preference one way or the other.

If by old school style you mean games that are Nintendo Hard, then there's definitely some fun ones out there now. For instance: the hardest mode in Dead Space 2. You get very limited ammo and health, the enemies are very strong, and you get a total of 3 saves for the entire game.

On a side note, I got an NES a couple of years ago and decided to get a light gun because of the several games that came with it, Duck Hunt was one. That experience was the final point to show me to be wary of the rose-tinted glasses that is nostalgia. I remember loving the game so much, but when I tried to play it recently I realized just how flawed it was. Namely: the gun needs to be almost literally right against the TV screen for it to work (and I was using a CRT TV).
My point is this: always remember that the age of the game doesn't matter nearly as much as the actual game.

Out of curiosity, how does it compare to Butcher Bay?

Since it comes with a remake of Butcher Bay, there's no need for that.

But since you've asked, Dark athena is a lot less like butcher bay and much more fast paced. It's also a bit shorter, butcher bay can be finished in 10 hours while DA can be finished in roughly 6.

Oldschool all the way, recent FPS games really do abuse on the health regeneration, making the gameplay really boring - since when sitting for hours behind crates is considered fun?

But just offer the option to gamers like in BioShock Infinite (http://irrationalgames.com/insider/announcing-1999-mode/). I've never played any BioShock, but after reading this announcement, I have high hopes in this new release, finally a possible worthy successor to System Shock 1 & 2.

BioShock's always been both very difficult and ridiculously easy at the same time. On the one hand, you don't have regenerating health and need to use health packs to heal (I think there's also a tonic you can get that makes melee attacks heal you). On the other hand, you could respawn an infinite number of times with absolutely no downside other than having to walk back to where you were. However, they did add in an option later that let you turn off the ability to respawn.

From what I've seen from gameplay, BioShock Infinite will have regenerating health.

I grew up on NES/GB/SNES games, so I'm quite familiar with them. I do admit that a lot of them are badly designed, though; game design has on average improved vastly over the years. That said, a lot of them are gems with great gameplay and design nevertheless, including famous games like Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Metroid, Final Fantasy III (VI), and Gunstar Heroes, as well as less well-known titles like Felix the Cat (NES) and Terranigma.

In contrast, most of the newer games are such that I don't have the hardware/systems to run (or even emulate) them. As a result, I've played pretty much none of the recent major titles, such as Gears of War, Crysis, Bioshock, Modern Warfare series, Mass Effect series, Halo series, Assassin's Creed series, etc.. (Team Fortress 2 is the major exception among these.) That's just fine with me, though; I find lower-hardware-requirement indie titles much more up my alley--I find Recettear much more fun than TF2, for example. And I've never really warmed up to FPS games (the genre of a lot of recent high-profile games) anyway; the original Deux Ex has been sitting in my Steam library for over a year now and I still haven't gotten around to it. Maybe later.

That, and I've probably got more taste for cutesy animesque visuals than the average western gamer or Steam user has. On the other hand, I have less patience for the recent craze for games involving fighting against zombie apocalypses (Left 4 Dead, Killing Floor, Dead Island, etc.).

I don't like torture, but I like a challenge. I'll play an fps on the hardest difficulty any day.

I don't like being forced to cheat to beat a game if the enemies are ridiculously hard.

I'm an old school kinda guy. I prefer 8bit-16bit, and that's that. But I play the new stuff, too. I've progressed in gaming as I've aged, keeping up with the new, but the old will always be my one true love (in gaming).

I'm pretty much open to everything. Flash type games I'm not into (like Angry birds style, that's a bit TOO casual). Not that I will play any game, but whether it's hardcore/easy or old/new aren't the factors I look at (although I sleight towards more challenging games, it's never the sole reason I do/don't buy a game.)

I'm also open to trying everything, though that doesn't necessarily mean I'll enjoy it. That said, I think it's important to keep an open mind.

On the other hand, I don't think we should feel a responsibility to try everything that's offered to us either; gaming, as much as it's a big part of our personal and even social lives, is still just entertainment.
