I just solved a puzzle which involved visually reading the giveaways code in an image. The puzzle wasn't that tricky but it took me a lot of time until I realized that one of the letters was a capital o and the other one a zero. As there are many puzzles on this site, it hink it would make sense to remove zeros from the code.

What do you think?

oh towards removing all the zeros from the code. as long as they don't remove it from the binary code... then it would just be 11111111 11111111 11111111 11111111 11111111

Wouldn't it be better if the puzzle makers just made sure to put a slash through their zeroes when making an image?

That might be a part of the puzzle. The puzzle creator could be willing to make you try both 'O' and '0'.

But 0 and O look different.

I don't really see how this is an issue, if it makes puzzle slightly harder, so what? It's a puzzle.

But I do agree with changing characters like uppercase i and lowercase L to look different to ruin MuIIins.

I know which puzzle you are talking about. It's called a puzzle for a reason.

As the creator of the quoted puzzle I agree with TreeB: 0 and O look different, and if they're so stretched that they look the same you simply have to destretch them, easy as pie.
Also I think that removing some characters from the "code generator" would be a giant amount of work for programmers of the site :s

Puzzle makers just need to choose their fonts better. Simple as that.

you can manually change the font used on sg to a monospace one, like "source code pro". it doesn't look pretty but it's easy to see different characters.
