Hey pals...
I've just got scammed... I stupidly believed in a high rep trader, we went gift for key, I gave the gift first, he gave me a false key... and now he deleted me...
As i'm an underage, I can't really work much in where I live, so I work as a redactor in some site, and worked around a month for those damn 30$ I just lost...
Why the hell people scam others... It's just being, assh*les...

Yes, lets implement the death penalty for thievery. Seems like a good idea.

Because sure material belongings are much more important than life.

Interestingly when I traveled in Africa I saw a man get clubbed to death by a crowd for stealing and trying to get away with a chicken. Right out in the open, in front of both women and children. So.. To some extent the rule applies?

I'm not sure I get what you are trying to imply.

Well, the conversation was discussing the value of life vs. inanimate objects, in which some (somewhat) jokingly suggested death penalty. Thusly I ceased the opportunity to throw in some observation on how less civilized communities ion the world handle thievery.

Schrodinger's chicken.

Thing is, out there that chicken is life or death, so he was stealing someone else's life.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Thing is, maybe that chicken was also life or death for him. Maybe he was trying to live. Things aren't as simply as they seem.

Except in the case of game scamming, where it's greed, plain and bloody simple.

Still, stealing someone else's life for your own isn't a better action that stealing a game. I'm not over here saying scamming or thievery is good, but legitimately believing the death penalty should be implemented for petty theft is ignorant.

yes of course, especially digital belongings

1 decade ago

It's not about material belongings, it's about society's sense of security. People shouldn't have to live in constant fear of having their belongings snatched away.

You're right about it not being worthy of death, however. Instead, chop the thief's hand off. You'll want to set a certain minimum value (say, $50) for it, so people aren't punished for stealing a pencil, and you'll want to discount theft of food and water, but otherwise, you steal == you lose your hand. The fear of losing a hand and being "marked" as a thief for life is a HUGE deterrent, not to mention the fact that chances of a repeat offender are almost nil. End result: theft becomes extremely rare, and society can sleep easy at night.

Thievery for food? No. Thievery for luxuries such as games? I can actually see that being a thing. They used to cut thieves hands off. Maybe they should go back to it.

If this is about your previous topic did the trader say it was a ROW copy?
Also send steam support a ticket asking for a refund for the giftable game you traded him for. It's the only thing you can do since Steam support doesn't deal with key traders.

Yes he did... Also, RTW2 is ROW generally, no restricted copies...

If most R:TW2 copies are ROW it's possible that it was a common mistake.

If you have proof that you purchased the key then you should be able to get it back from Steam Support I believe.

Also, in the future, refrain from trading keys with anyone unless you know them very well.

Trading keys is always more risky than it's worth when trading.

That s.cks, you usually know a good trader though, if he goes first with a key.

Also, always check SteamRep, not just the page, but do a forum search too.

I know it is not what you wanna hear right now, but that's how it (mostly) goes

But i've been there too, it just plain s.cks...

to answer that question: people scam because there are people like you who will fall for it.

sorry to hear this happened.
if it was a high rep trader, be sure it was actually that person that scammed you before reporting, as there are many impersonators out there.
once you're sure of the scammer, report them. and hopefully this won't happen again.

I'm sorry for you, same thing happened to me back during the Christmas sale. Unfortunately you can't get anything back, but hopefully the douche will burn. Best way is reporting him even breaking the TOS... I did and it worked. Sorry bro, it really sucks and can ruin your entire day/evening.

You're certain the guy you traded with was a high Steamrep trader, and not an impersonator?

Trading keys (especially high value ones) is a risky game. There are too many ballbags about.

If you got the key you gave him from another trade, you're stuffed. If you bought it from somewhere legit, you may be able to get it cancelled and have them issue a new one.

Sorry to hear you got dicked. Nobody deserves that. That said, you're better off saving a bit longer for stuff you want than running the risk of trading, especially if money is in short supply.

I'm guessing English isn't the OP's first language. Sometimes the subtleties of the language aren't apparent to non-native speakers.

Not everyone is as familiar with the trading system and its risks as you. Naivety in trading doesn't mean someone DESERVES to get scammed any more than little old ladies DESERVE to be robbed of their savings by door-to-door scam artists. Have a little compassion :)

Why do you think? He got a free game out of it. If he can repeat that multiple times, he could actually make a decent income.

Scammers generally remain anonymous. They don't have anything to lose, so why not?

Not that I'm encouraging scamming here, but honestly, they're not idiots.
