The new gifter's guide to gifting:

Basics:

NOTE: if you've WON a giveaway, you will see a green banner on your homepage, or any giveaway page you visit.

Purchasing the gift:

Creating the giveaway:

 • After you have purchased a game and stored it in your inventory, click the Create a Giveaway link.
 • Fill out all of the important stuff and click "Create your giveaway" at the bottom of the page.
 • Confirm all of the info, and click the "Confirmed" button at the bottom.
 • Wait until your giveaway ends. Go post on the forums or in chat; be friendly.

NOTE: If an item doesn't appear in the drop down menu on the giveaway creation page, do not submit it under a similar name. Search on the forums to learn more.

Sending the gift:

That's it! Congrats. You've successfully given something away, hopefully to a nice person who appreciates your efforts. Feels good, right?

When I want to create a giveaway, some games show up with asterisk behind them and some don't.

I cannot find the meaning of the asterisk, so what does it mean?

I also noticed that for example, Batman: Arkham City GOTY has a double entry in that list. But that is more for support probably...

I found this about asterisk, hope it helps. http://www.steamgifts.com/forum/Ihcl4/how-were-planning-to-fix-bundle-keys-and-contributor-values-option-1-revised
But I have no information about Batman: AA GOTY.

Hello everybody! I made a giveaway four days ago and I tried to add the winner on steam, but he refused my invitation and I can't add him again on Steam. I sent him an email with the explanation of the situation and I don't have any response. What can I do?

Why i have just 30 dollars ? :/ Look my game o link me where i can fund value for games ( sorry for bad english)

The same I have just giveaway two alan wake and two nightmare, but i have only 35,99 which is simply isn't possible because if the system may count only one AW, which is 34,99$,but i had an old giveaway, which costs 4,99$, that is showed up in my profile. So if the system count only one copy it had to add to my 4,99$ and 34,99$+4,99$=/35,99$

Or the system has an unique count mechanism(which is in my opinion really annoying) , but I didn't find a clue if it's true or not.

Bundle games only count for up to $30 worth, including anything purchased from a Humble sale.

Oh, but I don't give them as a bundle. I give as two AW and two Nightmare, not AW franchise, so I can get it.
And if I bought the games on Steam and pay their real prizes or at charity and pay 100 for them. They just punch me in the face?
Then thx a lot...
Why the developers can't appear on the main site that "WE GIVE NOTHING FOR THE BUNDLES AND AW" 'cause the main motivation to make giveaways is that you could become more contributor and i think it's true for the 90% of the giveawayers

I really like doing giveaways because give a gift is a good feeling, but that was a real kick in the face...

This is why people should read the FAQ before using the site.

Some choose to find out the hard way...

Still, look on the bright side: You were awarded thirty dollars worth of contribution for games which probably cost you a single buck. Kicks to the face have rarely been so pain-free :)

Hello, actually I have opened a giveaway, a winner has been selected, I contacted him on email but he doesn't reply - I always contact the winner to make sure the email account is in use, just to be sure to not send the key to no one.
How much time do I have to send the key and receive the feedback?
Thanks!

Those games must be on the bundle list. The total you can get from bundle games is 20% of the value from non-bundle games + $30. (Hence the $30 limit you have).

Giving away more games that are not marked with a * in the create a giveaway list will raise that $30 limit and credit you for some of the bundle games value.

So I gave away 5 games, each valued at 9.99 USD and have seen no change in my CV. What up with that?
And yes, the gifts have been received by the winners.

You can. But not as a giveaway at all.
You can make a post on the forum saying that you want to give it away and if someone is interested you can gift it personally or make a trade or something.
There are actually some discussions about the topic on the forum. It's just a matter of searching a bit. :D

I don't understand why you can "gift" games you already "own". Say I have a game which I've put lots of hours into, finished it, enjoyed it but know now that i won't play it again. What if I want to gift it on this site so someone else can enjoy it (which from this guide I get you can't) should you buy it again just so you can gift it here? I know i won't ever do that, and the few game I have this dilemma with sit quietly collecting dust in my inventory :( What a sad story, eh? ;) (Could I trade them at SteamTrades?) Hopefully in the future, you'll be able to "gift" games you already "own". Peace out, people.

 1. Games tied to your account cannot be given, traded, exchanged etc even if you finish them and don't need any more.
 2. Games sitting in your inventory can be given, traded, exchanged etc. So you don't need to purchase another copy if it's in your inventory.
 3. For the purposes of this site and this guide owning means having games tied to your account. Thus games in your inventory are not considered owned, you can do whatever you want with them.

Chour has summed it up pretty well. Any game you've played and put lots of hours into, is yours forever. You cannot do anything with that game that you registered, played, and are finished with.

You should add to the create giveaway screen that you must have the game purchased and in your inventory or something to give it away.

You see that "Giveaways" tab at the top of the page?
Click it and select "Create Giveaway"
Just follow that form and when the giveaway ends and the winner mark the game as received, you'll have contribution then

Can you instead of sending their game via steam send an activation code to their email address and they can redeem it with the "add a game" button on steam?

Search about it in the forums and if you don't find anything. Ask on the forums xD
Someone will know why the game isn't on the list.
And if everything seems to be in order, you could contact suppor to ask them to add the game or let you make a giveaway of it .
