You can try a hair dryer to heat up the plastic cap to make it softer, but I don't know if that will harm the hose too.

It's not a heat gun. A hair dryer would take forever to melt it, if at all. That's why I said soften it.

Nope, i remember about 15 years ago when i tried to clean my PS1, i took it apart and i washed the case with water, i wanted to dry it using a hair dryer and shortly the plastic started to melt. To this day the power button is stuck forever on On.

Nope. Look up the melting point of plastics and the max temperatures of hair dryers. Very few plastics would melt.

cut it and then you can bend it to go in the hole. had the same problem a while ago and with this is going out

Hmm my first though is to fill the hose with water and wash it out the way it came in...

Can the cap be reached by a knife? If it's totally stuck, the easiest way is to just cut it to pieces XD

You could say that a katana is kind of like a knife, but you'd still need a pretty long katana.
EDIT: WAIT! I found it! I found it!
I present to you... the Zweihänder. - Length up to 180 centimetres (5.9 ft)

I thought I'd gone back in time, it reminds me of one my mum had in the 70's xD

Straighten a metal coat hanger, make a small hook on one end. Heat the hook end till its hot enough to melt through the cap. Twist & pull the cap out.

If everything else fails, you could partially cut the hose near the blockage, yank the cap away with something less long than 6 feet and then close the cut with duct tape, maybe even put some glue on the cut before aplying the duct tape. I mean it won't be nice nor beautiful but you will solve the problem. Kind of evil cap I must say :(

Maybe you can use something like this from the nozzle side:

i've had things get stuck in my vacuum's hose a couple times (an old filter queen) and i usually disconnect the hose and hold it dangling and drop something fairly heavy through the hose.
i have a knurled, solid aluminium screwdriver that's the perfect size and heavy enough that it usually does the trick and knocks the obstruction free on the first try.
i've done the same with my shop vac, a bunch of times, when reversing it doesn't work.
hope that helps?
edit:
i didn't notice the photo linked in your post. it's stuck in the chrome elbow near the end? i'd imagine just using a bent coathanger or something ought to be enough? or put the handle of a large wooden spoon down the nozzle, and give it a couple good smacks.

Looks like you need an excuse to upgrade anyway. The 60's want their vacuum back.
Can you not blow on one end and see if it comes out? Channel your inner tuba player.

i know it may not be readily available but i use a pressure washer to get lodged items out of the hose in our shop vac here at our car wash. it hasnt let me down yet haha

im thinking use a tub and put alot of water through it hopefully dislodging it

Run a hosepipe through. If that doesn't dislodge it turn the hosepipe on.

http://i65.tinypic.com/1zyi6s.jpg Basically while I was tidying up by my desk, I accidentally sucked up a plastic bottlecap and it's logged itself at roughly the circled area (not the exact model but same basic idea) the hose detaches but because the cap is after the bend, even if I had something long enough to poke it (I'd need at least 6 feet) it'd also need to be able to go through that corner. It's reachable from the nozzle side (it's a bit less then a foot in) but it's too tight (it seems almost airtight at this point) to push it forward so it'll fall down the hose to freedom.
Don't really have access to any place that deals with vacuums anymore and most google hits seem to lead to the same solution, something long in the hose end so was wondering if anyone out there might have an idea for a solution
