So I've been looking into buying a console, and I wanted to ask you guys which ones you think are better:

  • Super Nintendo Entertainment System
  • SEGA Genesis

Now obviously, the Genesis doesn't have as many exclusives as the SNES, but I like Sonic More. And the SNES has a much more ergonomic controller than the Genesis, and a lot more exclusives. So I'm pretty torn.

Inb4 "Use an emulator"

EDIT: Oh, and I heard about Nintendo's portable console. Anyone tried that out yet, either? It's slightly cheaper than the SNES or Genesis, but I don't know about the game library.

Very true...

Only PLUS for the SEGA Genesis is that you can very easily make it region free and use every game from all around the world.

Glad it did. It's always fun to satirize things, especially since a ton of people have been asking about Xbone vs PS4 lately. :3

definately the super nintendo since it has way more and better games than the sega.
of course sonic is awesome but games like Super Metroid, Super Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong country, Lufia and all the ones I now missed to mention make up for it.

I was always a fan of Zombies Ate My Neighbors. I even found a modded ROM online called Ulimate Zombies Ate My Neighbors that replaced all the levels with ~50 new ones.

I still have my copy :), though only Lufia II which released in europe as Lufia.
Never got my hands on a copy of the first Lufia since it didn't get released in europe back then and i never cared importing a cartridge from north america.

Was hard enough to get in North America and I was lucky to get mine, but lost it among my numerous moves so now I have to play via emulator.

I hope you guys realize I am acting as if these consoles were brand new. It'd be kinda fun if you played along :P (I'm saying this because of the people saying to import. Importing was expensive :C)

I think the SNES is better because it has more good game in my opinion. The Donkey Kong Country games, Super Mario World 1&2, Super Metroid, 5 Bomberman games, Final Fantasy 4-6, and so on.

To make a wise choose, just remember that Sega does what Nintendont... Mmm, but Nintendo is what Genesisnt!!!! This marketing is driving me crazy!!!

But wait, SNES have incredible Mode 7 Scaling and Rotation, and out of this world Stereo sounds...

Or well just get Genesis because it has Blast Processing!!! Yes, Incredible Speed Graphics like in Sonic games!!! And you can get Mode 7 Scaling and Rotation adding to your genesis a Sega CD, and even more you can add a 32x for fantastic Next gen experiences!!!

Naaa… Get a Sony PlayStation… unbelievable graphics for its time!!!

Nice flashback, but I still love the games from both consoles, so don’t choose, buy them both :-)!!!

Happy gaming to all friends!!!

I got an SNES as a present when I was 4. Learned to love video games because of that. Good times.
Go get one.

SNES all the way. How is this a competition?

Three words: Secret of Mana.

Two words: Tetris Attack.

One word: Earthbound.

Final Fantasy (II and III), Starfox, Mega Man X! Super Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars!!

Chrono Trigger.

Super Metroid, Zelda A Link To The Past, etc etc.

HOW are we having this conversation?

SNES Wins.

Flawless Victory.

I decided to go grab an SNES thanks to the posts in this thread. I grabbed Final Fantasy II, Mega Man X, LoZ: Link To The Past, Mortal Kombat II, Disney's Aladdin, and NBA Jam. I'll check out Super Mario RPG and Earthbound.

SNES. It's games may not be as uncensored as Genesis, but the exclusives are totally worth it. I'm curious about that disc drive add-on that just came out, but I doubt that CD-roms will take the place in cartridges in gaming, heck, I'm not entirely sure they'll take over floppy discs for us PC gamers that have moved onto Windows 3.1 from just DOS or consoles.

As far as that handheld. I own one and I have to say, it's brilliant. It might be monochrome, but it can run on just 4 AA batteries for TEN HOURS! I couldn't believe it, you'd think that the batteries wouldn't last that long but boy was I wrong. Really helps when you're low on a pack of duracells. I don't know about you guys, but I think that it could be twice as popular as the Nintendo Entertainment System, I'm not lying.

Someone has to use the phone, so I'm going to get off the modem and watch that new Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers show that came out on Fox Kids! It's as good as or maybe better than Inspector Gadget!

Well I also heard rumors about SEGA having an add-on where you connect your Genesis to your Cable, and you can actually STREAM games to your console. You don't need a cartridge! Crazy, huh? I doubt it will ever catch on, but it's kinda neat.

It basically came down to Sonic the Hedgehog vs. RPGs... So the SNES wins.

Although the Genesis did have that amazing port of Starflight. Anyone else play that? It was phenomenal.
