Which is the better of the two? Should I spend some money during the upcoming summer sale or just wait until the Christmas sale?

Both are the same. Every season sale works the same nothing is really different other than the time and the logo. I think there's going to be a spring sale so might as well wait and see what happens then. Just remember to never pay full price for a game on steam. You can get a couple of good games on sale for the price of one fully priced game.

In fact, if you wait long enough, you can get any game you want on Steam for five dollars or less. 90% of my Steam inventory was bought for less than $10 per game. (Skyrim was free. Thanks, Delta! D )

I'm a bit angry at myself because when I first made my steam account I bought Terraria and GMod full priced.

If it's a multiplayer game though you may miss out on a lot of good games during that time that you are waiting for it to get cheaper, and the community could even be dead by the time you buy it. Just wanted to point that out. It's not worth it to wait for some things.

Or...Russian & Ucrainean traders ,they have lowest VAT on Steam :D I can recommend you quite a few epic ones & well-known. Especially when you combine Steam discounts with Ucrainean& Russian traders = GG ;) And if you get Discount COUPON too ...and if the game has Duo-Pack/Four-Pack etc too, GG bro, they can get it almost free lol,= you get it very very cheap ;)

and that's why more games are becoming region locked

I usually jut buy a game when it hits the price I want, the games will definitely be cheaper during the Winter Sale since it's 6 months later but if you really want to play a certain game I would say just set a price for that game and pay that much whenever it drops to that price. They should be equal in most cases though.

Also, if you've never done a Summer or Winter sale don't buy a game until it's a daily item. Usually most games are on sale but will get a bit of a discount increase during one of the days of the sale.

This. Most of the time the most wanted games hit those heavy sales for 2 days. Plus if it isn't region locked you can get it even cheaper from a trader on steam trades.

For one thing, this:
"Note: Currently, this item is available only to customers located in the United States and who have a U.S. billing address."

So... no.
Edit: that is, unless you cheat a little.

Well, why wouldn't you "cheat a little"?

Summer sale and Christmas sale are two different things, Summer sale and Winter sale are huge events, while Christmas sale is a bit smaller, but it doesn't mean it won't be good, just buy games you think are good and are discounted for the price you like

They are very similar sales.

Try with Steam Support, if I remember correctly they can do something but you have to manually select the Steam store of your country.

I live in a different country than where my account was set up and where my finances are. I had to contact steam to get them to unlock my account from ordering abroad (I think you have to have Steamguard enabled for this.)
I then use the link store.steampowered.com/?cc=uk (change the UK part to your original country's two letter code) and you can buy from there. You can't use mobile devices though. The steam app is a whole heap of shit and wont let you change the country store on it.

There is no "better", just get games when you think they are worth buying. The discounts are similar, but prices drop over time obviously.

Never buy straight from Steam, even during a sale! Find a trader on SteamTrades and buy the games you want with keys. Their prices are usually a bit lower than Steam sale prices in the end :)

nah, if anything, they are higher most of the time.

I don't think so, someone was selling a GTA complete pack for 3 keys.

You haven't been dealing with the right traders then. That, or you're in a region where steam prices are already heavily lowered compared to the rest of the world.

Both sales are similar, I didn't notice any major differences. Also remember to keep an eye out on other stores like Amazon.

I found more and better deals during winter sales in general but I wouldn't say they're categorically better, it's just that they had just the right games at the right prices for me.

edit: and yeah, like others have said, check other retail sites too.

As a rule of thumb (not just during a sale), if a game is 75% off it's safe to go for it.
The chances to get a bigger discount are small.
BTW, if a game is 75% off for the whole duration of the sale, you can wait 'till the last the day just in case it will get a bigger discount.

I would say, both sales are pretty similar to eachother.

When it comes to only game prices during sales, ... Summer Sale 2014 > Winter Sale 2013 > Summer Sale 2013 > ...

Will games during Winter Sale 2014 be cheaper then during Summer Sale 2014? Yes, they will be. But games during Summer Sale 2015 will be cheaper then Winter Sale 2014. It's the circle of sales.

I think you should wait until Winter Sales; it'll give you time to get through that backlog of yours.

They're rather similar to me, all having maximum discounts. I wouldn't want to wait 6 months, but anyways, if you wait 6 months, the price will drop anyways. And if you wait another 6 months then you might as well not intend to buy it in the first place :P
