Anyone remember the 'FIND THOSE LEECHERS' user script? I can't even remember where it came from, but I already miss it after making one giveaway. :P

Why does it matter to you? I personally laugh every time I see "Thanks for the chance".

If I win something I just thank the person then, I think it's more personal that way. :)

Comment has been collapsed.

Same, its not like it does matter if you say thanks in the comments of the GA anyway. Atleast not if there are already +20 comments, I doubt the creator would read them all. I rather thank him when I won or on his topic about the GA or when the person personally links me to the GA.

/shrug I read every comment in every giveaway. I'm weird like that.

And my comments usually mirror the complexity for the givers comment. They say something short, I say something short. They ask me to describe my favorite meal, I'll describe it in vivid detail. They ask to cuddle, I demand they nibble my ear. You know, the normal comments.

Same here! And if they don't write anything in the description I just comment on what about the game I like that makes me want to play it

If you are going to go and respond to a nearly year old comment, at least read the whole damn thing. Only two comments lower was this.

i'm used to that website and i actually don't hate most brazilians, indeed i insta hate anyone from my own country (portugal) because they insta-say "HEY you have allot of csgo stickers and weapons there", we speak the same language as the brazilians and in my opinion this comes from portuguese people (portugal is a small country but i get more beggers from portugal then from brazil that is huge)
anyway i still don't know what to say about japan :D

been using it and found a bug:
$('.comment__username', $data).each( should be $('.comments .comment__username', $data).each( , otherwise your username is added to commenters list and obviously excluded from leechers even if didn't comment. even if it was intended to be like this, i like to see if i already commented too.

What exactly is the point of the script? To exclude and blacklist users who opt to not post useless and frivolous, insincere comments on a giveaway? That's rather abusive and deplorable for you to do, not to mention fails to understand the concept of "leeching."

You people are pathetic.

Fair enough.

And of course; how often do you see a giveaway where you can actually contribute something meaningful? I can count them on one hand.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

My opinion here.

I wouldn't use this script for public giveaways and I'd definitely wouldn't consider someone not commenting, a leecher. I do find this script useful though for group giveaways just to easily check who doesn't bother commenting.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I've seen lots of giveaways with the potential for interesting dialogue. Unfortunately, there was no easy way to check for responses in giveaways, short of going back to each of those giveaways. I was really excited for how SG V2 does replies (includes responses in giveaways), but that feature from Beta isn't live yet.

I only say anything after I have won, in person if possible, and if not, I'll visit your Steam Profile and thank you there. Occasionally I may be inclined to also thank you on the giveaway, after it has ended already.

Also, everything Nokkenbuer said. Really, I should use him (?) as my stand-in. :P

DeltaBladeX, I respect you as a prominent Steamgifts member and a generous giveaway creator.

However with all due respect (don't get me wrong) but I think you're a bit overreacting here, wouldn't it be better to focus your precious time and energy on something more useful than policing "thanks" comments and creating huge blacklists? I'm starting to suspect that you might have a problem. A giveaway is not really a giveaway but a transaction if you expect something in return (whatever it might be).

Anyway I just need to let you know that I usually do not comment on giveaways (except private/group giveaways) and I do not require users to do it on my giveaways, however I too appreciate some kind/funny/interesting words. Please feel free to add me to your blacklist If you wish, and I am truly sorry if I offended you.

well, i am no fan of those "thanks" spamming.

instead of spamming thanks into everything you enter rather do:

  • thank the giver, when you win something.
  • give someting back from time to time
  • participate in forum discussions

I totally agree.
I VERY rarely thank for the giveaways that already have a huge list of people saying thank you.
I do, on the other hand, make sure to say thank you if I see that there are very few thank you's and a lot of people.
I just feel bad seeing 2 thank you's and over 100 entries.
Thank you is best said in person when receiving a gift. I prefer to hear it in chat or via email (whichever way I'm delivering the gift), but I don't expect it. It's nice when it happens but not obligatory :)

I agree with you. I rarely thank for GA, but always thank when I win something.
Just say something when I entry one giveaway if there are something interesting in description, so, I can participate in discussion.

And I like to be polite and wish more wins and fun, for who receive a gift from me. ☺

It's very ugly when you make a group giveaway with 10 entries more or less and nobody says anything.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Um, what do you want people to say? Do you write a description/comment yourself? Do you ask questions?

I'm the kind of a person who doesn't like to bother people so I never comment on anything unless the GA creator explicitly asks something / tells it's alright to comment. I'm the same way IRL, I feel... uncomfortable striking a conversation out of the blue, so online I really try to skip the anxiety of trying to come up with something to say. :D

(I, however, do send a thank you comment if I win a GA. That's just good manners. Unless the GA creator asked for no thanks/no comments. Then read above.)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I think that, at least, the winner should say something. Maybe no "thanks" but why not "received correctly" or "just activated". Some feedback. I mean, you just won a game... If the creator says no comment anything, is just education
