In the end, charity is optional. Do it because you want to, and not for any other reasons. Give within your means and you'll know that you gave what you could. If you really want to get to know people here, participating in forums, joining public groups and being active is all it takes to be a part of a community. Private groups tend to have numerous rules, requiring you to give away so much each month etc. They work for some people but not for all.
