Lots of trouble because you never actually gave it to them.

And what's point of that except of trying to exploit CV? If you want to give game to this person just give it directly through steam without help of SG

Maybe to ensure winner is forced to activate his gift.

It's still pointless. Like making raffle with some kind of prize, but host it in my own house and say "and the prize goes to sole participant in this event - my FRIEND! Enjoy your completely random and unpredictable winning"

thank you for telling me how some ppl on SG behave.as is didnt know that already ...listen to Wime, he got the point, why a group of SG-users and me used SG to ensure the rules are followed.

What we're trying to say is that its not a completly random person thats going to be "the winner" but maybe a friend, who HAS a SG account and (as far as the giveaway maker knows) values it.
As in its not a complete stranger, but someone that does value account.
I know how it feels when you gift a game to a friend and then they give it to someone else. (protip: it feels bad and makes you say "it was for you, you ungrateful tit!") so gifting it through SG to somewhat ensure they redeem it is a pretty nice looking option.

Why gift something to somebody who might not even have the decency not to trade/give it away? :S Replied to wrong post, sorry. Or not ><

Only if you want SG will choose your best friend instead of you ;)

If you want to ensure participation, you could always try using the wishlist checker to find out what people want.

The most hot cakes are not that hard to guess. It becomes a bit more difficult to estimate participation rate when gift is some older game that isn't that common.

Thanks for the tip. :-) It was Skyrim, and it seems it's wishlisted by nine people in one of the groups. The giveaway lasted one week, and was announced many times in Twitter and both Steam groups... Maybe not all of them have an Steamgifts account.

Usually private giveaway groups have their on thread where you post the link to the giveaway. That's the best way to ensure people are aware of your giveaway. Also if it has an active group chat dropping the link there is a good way of letting people know.

is it legit? yes.. you can do that if you want..... dont know why you would want to, you might as well just GIVE it to the person, unless the real present you're giving to them is the ability to witness the cat freaking out...
but if you wanted to cheat CV, which is a shitty thing to do, you need a minimum of 5 entries at least.

It is on the same day when the user registered on the site. So called cakeday.
