Yes i bought the re-release on steam because i love the game and i didnt like the music of course. So naturally i downloaded Audio Comparison

Here is a comparison between the PSX and the other edition of ff7 that i downloaded

"Old" represents the edition of ff7 on pc i had, the music im used to
"New" represents the psx files put into my steam version

the original midi on steam version sounds even worse so dont get me started haha.

Anyway, i cant be the only one hearing the difference and i want to know if anyone has ever heard "old" before, and if so, how do i get the into my steam version? because thats what i remember and, although it may sound worse to some, im used to it so it sounds better to me. Its more fast paced and I like it that way whereas the psx (new) version is way more slowed down, and you can hear breathing not present in the old one.

TL;DR Help me figure out how to get "old" on my steam version please. Its not just the battle theme, everything sounds different than the psx version.

Probably need to turn off auto updating in the options for the steam version so it doesn't overwrite it.

I downloaded something called "Anxious Heart". The .exe patches a proper OST over all the crappy midi files

Unbelievable that they're still trying to peddle the bad version of this game, how many times are they going to release FF7 on PC anyway? Inb4 DLC that gives you the non-midi soundtrack.

you guys arent getting it though, like i said i DID the anxious heart/music replacement, that gives me the result you hear in the "New" version

I believe the "old" version is midi but a different sound bank, so it sounds different then the new midi everyone else has

what is odd is that i left the files alone for the steam version at first so they were the midi version, and they didnt sound like the old version, they sound completely different.

Im thinking the only possible way i can get the old sound in my game is if i went into the old game and recorded it in game with audacity and then converted all those into oggs... which sounds like a lot of work =/
