Haven't played the game because; a)it's a MMO, b)it wasn't in a bundle. But I heard alot about the game, and if you even remotely interested in MMORPG and have the money then it's a must-buy.

EDIT: Look here it's really the minority that hates it and most of it come from something called 'treadmill' something.

well there is a free week starting on friday, just try it and decide for yourself :)

and i can recommend the game its realy fun and its okay to play some and then dont play it for weeks or month and come back without having the feeling or preasure like in other mmo´s like wow that you missed out on something or your gear is not good enough for parties.

I tried it before but people say it sucks in late game

well if you tried it before then you should know if you like it or not

and i guess you only read what you wanna hear, because i bet there is at least the same amount of ppl who love the endgame. and there is new content coming almost every 2 weeks so you have always something to do, could be questing, open world events, pvp, wvw, guild challanges, master your profession or play in one of the over half a dozent instanced dungeons. i dont know any other mmo that has so much variety than gw2, but maybe thats the problem, that there is to much stuff to do and ppl cant decide what they wanna do.

plus think about that. if you are bored of the game you just quit and come back when it has more content, and you dont have to worry that you wasted money in a monthly fee or that your friends have so much better gear now.

I played GW1 a lot too, and I'm very happy with GW2. The combat system is much more skill based, there's new content every two weeks, and I love WvW.

If you're a hardcore PvP player though, I can understand the letdown. GW2 PvP isn't nearly as fleshed out as GW1 PvP was.

i like guild wars 2 and still play it.
Pro : no monthly pay
-personal storyline that change depending on your choice

  • interesting crafting ability
  • dynamic events
  • puzzle events
  • zones that scale with your level and instance
  • you don't need to be in a group to kill boss, creature. Everybody that help gets the loot from the creature
  • no roll for loot
  • you don't need to talk with a npc to get a quest or to give to it.
-instant travel in the zones with the waypoints , no more waiting to get from zone a to zone b

Cons :- expensive store

  • limited slot 5 and there are 8 classes, you can still buy but it cost like 800 gem that cost 10$/10euro
  • problem with some boss since people are not in the group you can't control them and because of this allot of wipes or the boss leave since they put times in the events
  • because of the scale zone people mostly abandon the high end zones so you may end up being alone there to try to farm some material for your gear

It mostly depends on you, and your tastes in mmorpg

Guild Wars 2 is the reason I haven't gotten to most of my Steam games. I highly recommend it. It gets some hate, but almost all of the complaints are either that it isn't WoW or it isn't GW1.

Be warned that it is an MMORPG, and it gets new content (for free) every two weeks, so it's possible to put a LOT of time into it.

There are 8 normal dungeons (each with 4-5 paths), and Fractals of the Mists. There are also sometimes living story dungeons, but those have all been temporary so far.

So there's not enough content to have fun with?

Yea it's a great experience.. I love the jumping puzzles they put emphasis on those. I really enjoy the challenge to them and if they are doing it again this year the Mad Kings Clock Tower is waaaay fun you gotta race others up a spinning sinking clock tower before the demonic energy swallowing it gets you and then you have to time a jump through the face of it after it gets struck by lightening; way cool. My only beef with the game is yes it has soooo much content sometimes and these events they run are usually for a limited time only and they will run like 2-3 at a time so you feel like you gotta do them but when there are so many it's overwhelming and yes you don't want to waste all of your freaking time on it otherwise you would have no time for anything else! They got better this month and are only running one atm so that's good and it's a cool nod to the nintendo graphics genre called "Super Adventure Box."

Another thing to be mindful of in my opinion you will play your new char a lot to the point where you've reached the top and yes the end game can get a bit boring if you don't really know what to do but the main point I want to make is the fact that it's a F2P game, only thing you gotta pay for is the main game however, I do not feel the need to invest my time since I know it's there and not charging me monthly so in that aspect I am so used to the monthly sub and making my use of my money so it's usually the only way I find myself playing a MMO a lot. I know that sounds backwards but I'd rather pay monthly and have access to everything and not have so much content to the point of overload but I have found myself going back to WoW mainly because my wife still plays so there lies my interest to return but also it's much better in terms of getting groups going and doing a dungeon run and knowing your part whereas in GW 2 they have a separate website that people threw together and not Areanet to get your groups together so it is a bit of an annoying process for me as opposed to clicking a button and joining a que and then having a fun time running a dungeon without the hassle of it all. Also it has this weird reminiscent Korean style to it and we have seen a lot of those MMO's come and go but I mean more of the artwork of the game and character design kinda reminds me of that not that it's a bad thing but just something I've noticed... Just my opinion!

Check it out though especially if there is a free week it may interest you!

Not, waste of money. Quick leveling, few instances after max lvl. PvP and battles boring, you fighting for nothing. Boredom.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Quick leveling removes the grind-fest aspect of most MMORPGs.

Non-max level instances downscale players, so max level characters don't care if an instance is max level or not.

If you don't like PvP, then play PvE.

Its a shit pile of mixed opinions, some say the game suck others say the game is good, how you decide? you dont.
You cant expect to know if you will like the game by hearing from another your mouth, you have your own taste? dont like tomatoes? well fuck you because someone else does, it has its cons and pros, long story short you will need a good processor. The game consumes ALOT of your processor memory, but if you have a good computer its nice, i have GW2 and i recommend it if you have free time, because some quests take half a day to complete. I hope this helps, and remember, in no ways i meant to offend you! its all good mentioned!

GW1 was a pure PvP game for me (I've played it several years) and I hoped they would support the PvP Community in GW2, but they haven't done that in the first months. There were so many bugs and you couldn't play classes/builds 'cause traits didn't worked correctly, so we still played sPvP and tried to adapt but we didn't liked the sPvP system. I've played GW2 (sPvP/PvE) for around ~3 Months with old GW1 friends but we got bored then but it was still worth the price and I don't regret it.

I've read the comments in this thread and I'm just happy that I've chosen GW1 at release and not something different. When I hear "quick leveling" or "it's easy to get full equip" is a negative aspect of the game that freaks me out. So you just want to see more low level player with equip which isn't as good as yours because they haven't invested so much time?

'So you just want to see more low level player with equip which isn't as good as yours because they haven't invested so much time?'

Of course I do. That's the idea behind MMO's. Progress takes time. If it's easy and fast, people get bored of it fast as well. GW2 is the perfect example.

How the hell do you register, whats with the freakin UNIQUE PASSWORD?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No, buy The Secret World instead. You'll get the "no monthly pay, unique char,no fetch quests". But you'll also get an unique background (heroic fantasy is so mainstream), an incredible ambiance (Lovecraft would like the first 3 areas), quests with search and thinking (very satisfying to finish and for once, you'll have to read the quest), the game tries to build strong relationship with the NPC (they aren't just random dudes giving quests), challenging game (it's like Dark Souls, it teaches you to be careful), no boring crafting system, the skill system that let you do what you want...

I played it, didn't like it. I have an account I don't use which I am willing to trade for something else, if you're interested. It doesn't have any higher level chars and you can just delete them all anyway. So it'll be like a fresh new account basically.
