Is it still the case that you cannot activate the complete collection if you have this?

Maybe. Worst case scenario, you can just delete the first chapter, it might work then.

I don't know, but you can remove it and activate the collection.by going here: https://store.steampowered.com/account/licenses/

limited time to grab for free and keep forever or just free to play for some time? because I don't have it in my library and the button just opens steam client to install the game

Free forever, by the looks of it- for some reason it's lacking the usual FREE icon next to Play (see what I mean here) but it doesn't have the timer/Steam notice that it's a free-to-play weekend, either (nevermind it not being the weekend). [And it's certainly not a free license activation, as you noted.]

Moreover, it has remained free on console since it went free there last month, so it seems to be a firm change.

You win the removal of the increase to your WonCV total..? ^.^;

Definitely a bit of an odd change.
Well, as noted below, at least your copy permanently shows in library without having to be installed, so I guess that's some minor perk- though as soon as you get any other episodes, that'll happen anyway, so...

Seems to be removed from library as soon as you abort download. Or do you need to install whole chapter 1 and then remove it?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's because it counts as free to play, meaning that it disappears from the library listing when it's uninstalled (unless you make it permanently appear, which you can do but I've forgotten how).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Buying any DLC will make it permanently show. I wanna say there was also a way to use SteamDB to trick it into listing without that, but I may be mistaken there.
The first one'll definitely do it, though, so it'll remain in-library as soon as you buy an additional episode for it.

oh? how? I need that

but I may be mistaken there.

I know it was discussed at one point, but I could really say if I'm recalling the results of that discussion at all correctly. I know there's an option on SteamDB to auto-add all free/free-to-play/etc games to your account, but that doesn't make them show in library anymore than if you'd added them manually.

Well, as far as KQ goes, you can always find a key for the earlier bundled version and just add that to account; should be easy to trade for, now that it's otherwise worthless. :P

It's permanently free, thus it won't show in your library without you activating a steam key for it.

I will wait until I get the complete collection, since I want the epilogue as well.

You can remove the game from your library before you buy the complete collection. OR youcan do as I did, and buy the collection as a Steam key from an outside retailer.

"[Free to play] King's Quest - Chapter 1: A Knight to Remember" looks like a more accurate title to me, since it's not actually getting a game with an actual price for free.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's a quirk with steam tags: [Free to Play] specifically refers to games that are free, but have in-game payment transactions [eg, most 'free' MMOs]. Meanwhile, the [Free] tag refers to games where the base game is free [but the rest of content (if any exists) is bought via DLCs].

Thus, [Free] IS the correct Steam tag- just not, perhaps, the correct SG one :P

(You can compare the icons next to 'PLAY' on these two titles, to see what I mean: http://store.steampowered.com/app/11610 http://store.steampowered.com/app/317410 )

I know what you mean, but I was thinking about SG. Here, usually when we see a [Free] on the forum it means a game that you should pay for (Deadbreed, etc) but you can, thanks to some shitty promotion get for free. Anyway, it doesn't really matter.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah. Technically it should have been done "PSA: Knight's Quest: Chapter 1 now permanently Free" or something, as the [Free] (SG) tag is quite misleading there, for a permanently free title.

Still, as you say, doesn't really matter :)

In my experience, Valve will use any excuse not to give you a refund, that they can find- so probably not.
Never hurts to try, however..

They refunded my 4.4 hours played on way of the samurai 4 so no

Comment has been collapsed.

From what I've heard, they're mostly very strict, but also sometimes really erratic and not.

All I know is they haven't refunded on broken games for me and several of my friends, or on games where the developer outright lied to the customers [about upcoming content or pricing].

In fact, the only time they DO seem to give leniency on refunds, is when you pull the 'I just didn't like it and went over on time' card.

Also, some individuals have speculated that the leniency only happens on your first refund request, and that that's the most common element.

not my first, but I did pull my I wasn't expecting this "repetitive-type" of gameplay since that wasn't listed in steam store

Yar. You're either going to get $0 because it's pointing to a removed entry, or because the top-entry on that page is now valued at $0. Either way, seems certain to drop. :X

Yay, I've wanted to play it for a long while now, and was waiting for them to finish all chapters before buying it. I'm a big King's Quest fan (played all previous 8 games) so I'm excited to see what they made of it. Thanks for letting me know ;)

Doubtful, though the first episode was well received, subsequent episodes have gotten less favorable reviews. Also adventure games tend to not be very profitable. The game becoming free doesn't bode well either (seems like a desperate attempt at luring new customers). I never played Quest for Glory, the combat part deterred me somewhat. Personally, I would like a new Space Quest game, loved that series. But I think this is the best we'll get, a man can dream though :)

That's one of my all time favorite adventure game series. Together with King's Quest they were my first introduction to adventure games. But Space Quest's humor made for the superior series. The original creators are working on a spiritual successor SpaceVenture, which could be interesting. It's a spiritual successor because Activision Blizzard (current holder of most of Sierra's IP) wouldn't release the IP to them, so it's possible they may revive other old time Sierra games (under the newly revived Sierra).

LOVED Quest for Glory !!

Sometime I need to reinstall these games and play through from 1-5.
I have the anthology on CD still, but I also picked them up at GoG.com early on so I'll install them from there.

There is a fan-made re-make of Quest for Glory II out there ...

The QfG games were some of the absolute best PnCs of the time- needless to say, they were the very first purchase I made from GOG [or any online distributor, at that, as I only started using the others within the past two years].
