Yes, because high levels don't already have a bunch of appreciation, are more respected than their lower level brethren, and need their own week, even though they have a 1/50 chance of winning every high level raffle they enter, and they totally don't have a tenancy to make giveaways that low level people can't enter exclusively.

Seriously though, it's not hard to put yourself in the perspective of people who have been here a long time and contributed a lot. "Low-levels are leechers" is I'm sure a common sentiment, and a big reason they form private groups, and I'm sure it's true in a large percentage of cases. Events like this help soften that image and those of us who believe in karma will just sit back and allow the appreciation to be reciprocated and multiply. I think that's the key point - spread out over a long time and made up entirely of sale purchases. I think SteamDB calculates my account at over $10K, but I've had it for over 8 years, and I've always bought almost everything at 85% off or more. I really don't spend anywhere near as much as a lot of people spend on their few new console games each year, and never have. So, yeah, they're probably financially comfortable in 1st-world terms, and even rich compared to the average global citizen, but it's all relative, and comes down to what we choose to spend our money on. If I didn't have a family and other interests, I'd probably spend a lot more on gaming - doesn't mean I'm jealous of people that make different choices.

5000$ Value =/= 5000$ paid. And noone hits lvl 10 over a single day, week or month ;p Buy your games from 75-80% sales (or before region lock we were just trading for costy gifts) - it suddenly becomes 1000$ spent to reach lvl 10. Now spread it through a long period of time, in my case 2 years 11 months aka 35 months, it becomes 28.5$ a month. Less than 1$ a day. I understand that there will be people for which 1$ a day is not affordable - people from very low income countries, young kids who don't earn any money and only have what their parents give them, but for any adult living in a western country - spending 1$ a day doesn't indicate he's rich or even wealthy. It's buying yourself 1 beer less in the shop, or making your own sandwitch in the morning to get to work instead of buying premqade one. In fact most of my contributions were made in the time when I was studying and/or when I was unemployed - so I was far away from being rich or even wealthy.

Some people enjoy (for the most part, till the likes of you 2 come along, for instance) being a part of this community, so they like giving to this community.
Nobody's forced to do so, but to knock it down a peg or two and call it plain wealth is assuming a bit, no?
From my own RL experience, i've noticed the people that most adhere to giving something away, as little as it is, are more often than not the ones that can afford the least. Be cynical all you like, but it's actually true. While there are exceptions (to be fair), the actually really wealthy people of this world, for the most part... don't give 2 sh*ts about the rest.
And it's not assuming in both those cases, because i'm not talking about people on the internet i know nothing about, but people i know full well in RL.
You like to keep your AAA games, that's fine. Some people go out of their way to get games from their own wishlist that they don't own to give them away, so how about a little less assumptions (and respect for that matter), heh?

Notice how the entitled person thinking he's showing only cynicism can very well take his TF2 stuff (he has 2 supply crate keys, for instance), trade it for a AAA game and give it away. Yes, 2 keys can get you a very good and highly sought game. Won't get you GTAV, but will get you a very good game.
Does he have to / is it expected of him? No, of course not.
Can he? Absolutely.
Can the same be said for the very good games you yourself own? Again, you know the answer to that one. ;)

Since when was considering someone wealthy a form of disrespect? I imagine it ends up being very similar to playing an mmo (or heck, eating out on a regular basis). It doesn't "feel" like a lot of money when you're doing it, but after 6 years suddenly I've spent 1,080$ on FFXI, being able to do things like that makes someone decently well off in my opinion.

After sales are taken into account Mine is $616, your's is $1,524 and considering just about every "good" game I own were birthday or christmas gifts... You have more money than me, and can give more than me because of that. And I thank you for doing so, people like you help keep this community going and I agree that others should celebrate the giving and that the high level gifters should get a treat for it all. Well, my bad, and i can certainly admit when i'm wrong. It felt like you meant it as a form of saying "high level users are wealthy, therefore they can afford it, while the people who like to cry poor more than than wolf can't"...

Uhm, can't say that I remember to be honest. If you're using a script to automatically enter public GAs that might be the reason since I ran some experiments in that field, if that's not the case I honestly have no clue. Neither your SG nor your Steam profile ring a bell. I'll have a look at my blacklist and see whether the blacklisting date/entry reminds me of something.

I haven't used any scripts to enter giveaways or any other scripts besides the ga activation checker (but it's a tool on a separate website, not a script or an add on). I don't know what your script was based on, maybe some behavior of mine coincides with the criteria you based your script on. I don't recall any other interaction with you, nor I seem to entered any of your giveaways (unless it's not shown when I'm blacklisted). Anyway, thanks for the replay, I just was curious of the reason.

I had a look at my blacklist, I had no GAs running on the day in which you were added and you don't show up in the logs either. So unless we got into a less-than-civil altercation on the forums or over Steam (and I'm positive we didn't, for there's only one person I got really angry over the internet in the last few years and I remember it well - besides, your request for an explanation was polite) I find myself without a reason to have you on my blacklist & act accordingly.
